Pigeons and Pony Tails

Keeli Harris, under the guidance of Mike Lackner,

yells, PULL! She puffed a clay pigeon on her second
try! It was simply a perfect evening for the free youth
shooting and archery skills event held on the grounds
of the Glasgow Trap Club last night. Shotguns, pellet
guns, ammunition, targets and archery equipment were
provided at no cost, as was a mountain of barbecued

hot dogs and hamburgers to conclude a successful

night of shooting. Lucky winner of the .22 caliber rifle
was Tristan Powell. The Youth Day activities were
cosponsored by the Missouri/Milk River chapter of
Ducks Unlimited, the Hi-Line Gobblers chapter of
the National Wild Turkey Federation, as well as the
Glasgow Trap Club and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.

Clinic will use telehealth technology to offer the
LifeStyle Balance Telehealth Program to members of the
community. The LifeStyle Balance Telehealth Program
is a comprehensive program for the prevention and
treatment of diabetes using telehealth technology. This
program sets challenging, reasonable, safe and effective
goals for weight loss.
Research has demonstrated that people who are at
risk for diabetes can reduce their risk by up to 58% if
they become more active and lose at least 7% of their
body weight. Those who have diabetes can significantly
lower their risk of complications related to diabetes.
Obesity and diabetes are chronic diseases that are
increasing in prevalence in both children and adults in
the United States. Nationally, 34% of our population
is overweight, a status defined as having a body mass
index (BMI), the relation of a persons weight to height,
of 25 to 29.9. A number less than 25 is normal. More
concerning is that nationally, up to 33% of the adult
populations meet the criteria for obesity, a category
defined by a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher.
Currently 64% of Montanas population is overweight or
obese. Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular
disease, certain types of cancer, type 2 diabetes,
hypertension, coronary artery disease, high cholesterol,
sleep apnea and other chronic conditions.

This program is open to all adults who are overweight
or obese. It is a 12-week comprehensive program with six
follow-up maintenance meetings to support continued
weight loss success for each participant. The LifeStyle
Balance Program is individualized to meet the specific
needs of each participant. Sessions will address lifestyle
changes by providing individual and group counseling
about nutrition, healthy decision making and exercise.
The LifeStyle Balance sessions will be led by a
specially trained team consisting of a dietitian and a
life style coach. They will provide the knowledge and
framework for participants to build healthy habits into
their daily lives and carry those behaviors forward for a
lifetime.
This program will be offered in September. There
will be a $50 registration fee. To register, please contact
Mary Christianson at 228-3500 ext 3224 or 228-8508.

Melinda Truesdell grows her

practice in Eastern Montana

After working 20+

years as a nurse, she
decided to earn a masters
degree so she can work
as a psychiatric nurse
practitioner to help people
in Eastern Montana with
mental health issues.

Mission accomplished.

Melinda
Truesdell,
board-certified Psychiatric
Mental Health Nurse
Practitioner, has recently
joined staff at the Eastern Montana Community Mental
Health Center providing services in Eastern Montana.
Prior to acceptance in her program as Psychiatric
Nurse Practitioner, Melinda served 21 years as a staff
RN, Clinical Coordinator/Manager, and Administrative
Supervisor at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
To further her professional goals, she completed
a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the University
of Texas at Arlington, and graduated with a Masters
in Nursing from Montana State University in May of
this year. Her graduate program focus was Psychiatric
Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and she has completed
the required licensing and certifications to practice in
the great state of Montana.
Melinda was born and raised in Glasgow
(Melinda LaFond, GHS Graduate of 1981, married to
Karl Truesdell, also GHS Graduate of 1981) and her
plan as Psych Nurse Practitioner is to develop interfacility relationships, offer staff and community
education, and perform psychiatric evaluations for
the residents of Eastern Montana. Her licensing and
training provide her with the expertise to prescribe
and evaluate psychotropic medications related
to mental disorders such as depression, bipolor
disorder, ADHD, schizophrenia, and others. She
will deliver a high quality experience for customers
as well as partner with staff in developing a positive
environment which will showcase Miles Citys mental
health care team.
Melinda looks forward to growing her practice in
the region and is accepting new clients and referrals for
psychotropic medication management in Glasgow and
Wolf Point. You can schedule and appointment at 2289319 in Glasgow or 653-1872 in Wolf Point.

Know your hunting rules & regs

Every hunting season some individuals unwittingly
or knowingly violate the states game laws.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials urge hunters
to review Montanas hunting rules and regulations to
ensure they act within the law and that they recognize
when others violate the hunting regulations and related
laws.

Here are some of the most common game violations:
Failure to obtain permission from landowners before
hunting on private property.
Wasting part of a game animal suitable for food.
Failure to properly validate a license/tag or to securely
fasten the tag in a visible manner to a game animal
immediately after it is taken and before it is moved or
transported from the kill site.
Taking game from the wrong hunting district.
Using someone elses tag on a game animal you killed,
or tagging a game animal that someone else killed.
Shooting game animals on or from any public
highway or public right-of-way.
Taking game without a license or the proper permit.
Failure to validate a big game tag.
Not leaving evidence of the sex or species of the game
animal attached.
FWP encourages hunters to protect the future
of their sport by hunting responsibly and reporting
hunting violations to the toll-free 1-800-TIP-MONT
(1-800-847-6668) number or report a violation online
at fwp.mt.gov, then click Enforcement.

SARAH PALIN: The chicken crossed the road because,

gosh-darn it, hes a maverick!
BARACK OBAMA: Let me be perfectly clear, if the chickens
like their eggs they can keep their eggs. No chicken will be
required to cross the road to surrender her eggs. Period.
JOHN McCAIN: My friends, the chicken crossed the road
because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation
and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.
HILLARY CLINTON: What difference at this point does it
make why the chicken crossed the road.
GEORGE W. BUSH: We dont really care why the chicken
crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on
our side of the road or not. The chicken is either with us or
against us. There is no middle ground here.
DICK CHENEY: Wheres my gun?
COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can
clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road.
BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with that chicken.
AL GORE: I invented the chicken.
JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the
road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and
I was misled about the chickens intentions. I am not for it
now, and will remain against it.
AL SHARPTON: Why are all the chickens white?
DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken
wont realize that he must first deal with the problem on this
side of the road before it goes after the problem on the other
side of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how
stupid he is acting by not taking on his current problems
before adding any new problems.
OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having
problems, which is why he wants to cross the road so badly.
So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and
take falls, which is a part of life, Im going to give this chicken
a NEW CAR so that he can just drive across the road and not
live his life like the rest of the chickens.
NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because
hes guilty! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.
PAT BUCHANAN: To steal the job of a decent, hardworking
American.
MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which
way the chicken was going. I had a standing order at the
Farmers Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to
a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.

DR SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross

it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it
crossed Ive not been told.
ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain, alone.
JERRY FALWELL: Because the chicken was gay! Cant you
people see the plain truth? Thats why they call it the other side.
Yes, my friends, that chicken was gay. If you eat that chicken,
you will become gay too. I say we boycott all chickens until we
sort out this abomination that the Liberal media whitewashes with
seemingly harmless phrases like the other side. That chicken
should not be crossing the road. Its as plain and as simple as that.
GRANDPA: In my day we didnt ask why the chicken crossed
the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road,
and that was good enough for us.
BARBARA WALTERS: Isnt that interesting? In a few
moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the
first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced
a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its
lifelong dream of crossing the road.
ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.
BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2013, which will
not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important
documents and balance your checkbook. Internet Explorer
is an integral part of eChicken2013. This new platform is
much more stable and will never reboot.
ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road,
or did the road move beneath the chicken?
COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?
