Objectives:
To become scientific explorers, develop analytical thinking, problem solving, and
laboratory skills.
To increase Scientific Literacy: expanding understanding of concepts and
communicating that understanding to others.
To learn about the natural environment and how it can be described, predicted and
explained in biological, chemical, and physical terms.

General Outline:
1. Nature of Science (10%)
2. Climate and Ecosystem Dynamics (20%)
3. Chemical Reactions (25%)
4. Force and Motion in our World (20%)
5. Career Education
6. Student-Directed Study (5%)

Final (20%) - comprehensive
Tests/Quizzes will be conducted at the end of topics and units.
Assignments will be assigned throughout the semester.
Please note that some assignments and activities are designed to be practice and/or aid in the learning of a
concept. These assignments may be marked and included in PowerSchool but will not be included in the
calculation of a final grade.

Means of Communication
If you would like to stay up-to-date about what we are doing in class, monitor student marks, or
get reminders about upcoming due dates, the following resources are available to both students
and parents/guardians:
Monitor your grades by using Student/Parent Portal.
Class website you will find handouts and resources on the website, if you missed
classes.
Email me I will respond to your email as soon as I can.





Class Policies:
1. Respect. This includes respect for me, respect for each other, respect from me to you.
2. Students are expected to be punctual and ready to learn. If you are late, quietly take your
place and do not disrupt your classmates. We will deal with situations when being late
becomes a pattern please dont let that happen.
3. Assessment for this course will be consistent with Campbell Collegiates Assessment
Framework Policy.
4. It is the students responsibility to get any notes/information that they miss due to
absence. Find handouts on the class website.
5. Assignments are due at the beginning of class. All late assignments will either be given a
zero or marked my discretion.
6. Any assignments, labs, or quizzes that are missed due to an EXCUSED absence must be
submitted upon your return to class or completed at a mutually agreed to time, which is to
be decided prior to your absence. Discuss this with me as soon as you know you will be
away.
7. Lab safety procedures must be followed at all times. Any student found not following
these procedures will be told to leave the lab and assigned a mark of zero. Any behavior
deemed dangerous may lead to permanent exclusion from all future labs.
8. Students engaging in plagiarism and/or cheating will receive a mark of zero on that
assignment/lab/quiz/test and be subject to disciplinary action.
9. Cell phones should not be used in class unless permission is granted. We will use
cellphones in class periodically, but I will announce when phones can be used.
Otherwise, if I see it, I will keep it until the end of the class or longer for repeat offenders.
10. No eating or drinking in the lab. No food in class.
11. The bell does not dismiss you at the end of class I will dismiss you. You are expected
to work until the end of class.
12. Talk to me about any problems you are having and we can set up a plan to work
through it. I am more than willing to work with you before or after class to ensure
you are excelling in this class.
