What is meant by the term environmental sustainability?

It Is the process of preserving the environment to support human life by making responsible
decisions by companies that take action to minimize their negative impact on the environment. It
isn't a simple scheme as reducing the amount of waste that you produce or using less energy, but
it is about developing a plan to become completely sustainable in the future. Business look
beyond making short term gains and look at the long term. or e!ample, when manufacturing a
product, you need to look at the environmental repercussions of the products entire lifecycle,
from development to disposal before finalizing your design.

$inimize air pollution by having renewable energy to minimize burning of fossil fuels,
carbon monoxide, organic compounds, and chemicals into the air. Minimize water
pollution by preventing waste dumping into the sea or river, underground storage
and tube leakages. Minimize soil pollution by changing the agricultural operations
that uses pesticides and fertilizers, preventing waste disposal, mitigate accidental
oil spills and unhealthy waste management plans. Preservation of the ecosystem
and minimize waste by recycling materials which reduce energy usage, reduce air and water
pollution and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

&nergy sectors need to consider the repercussions that coal, hydropower, wind and solar energy
has and the impact it will cause to the enviroment because there Is no such thing as completely
clean energy. #oal causes the emission of harmful materials including carbon dio!ide, sulfur
dio!ide and mercury. 'ydropower while this form of energy does not cause air or water
pollution, it does have environmental impacts. It may harm fish, change of water temperature
and flow, relocation of people and animals, it can also cause low dissolved o!ygen levels of
water which is dangerous to river habitats. (etroleum when burned produces carbon dio!ide,
carbon mono!ide and other air to!ins. )olar energy doesn*t cause an increase to water pollutions
or green house gasses but manufacturing the photovoltaic cells produces to!ic materials and
chemicals. Wind does not produce air or water pollutions but it may effect on bird and bat
morality which is the most serious environmental impact if choosing wind energy.

-he I). /,00/ is a standard that states what the environmental management system
re1uirements are for organizations to develop and implement policies
2.
It is a four stage process for carrying out change. -he , stages in a (3#+ cycle are plan, do,
check and act. -he planning stage recognizes an opportunity and plan a change, 3o test the
change that is carried out on a small scale study. #heck reviews the test and analyzes the results
and reviews what you have learned. +ct takes actions based on what you have learned if you
were successful. -he model is continuous and should be repeated again and again for continuous
improvement because an organization is constantly reviewing and revising the system.
