A 16 year old female patient comes to you (gynecologist/obstetrician) with severe pain
and cramps in her lower abdomen as well as stomach upset. She further tells you its her
fifth day of her menstrual cycle and is extremely frustrated to have to deal with
premenstrual syndrome (PMS), the pain and cramps every month.
Question # 1
Briefly explain the menstrual cycle and why it may involve PMS, blood loss, cramps and
pain?

After further investigation you found out that she was taking Ibuprofen 400 mg two
times/day for 5 consecutive days on an empty stomach (without food) for her menstrual
pain.

taking medications?

She also complains of headache, dizziness and fatigue. You ask her for several blood tests
