Introduction
The Instructors Manual for Modern Database Management, 11
th
edition provides chapter-by-
chapter support for the classroom instructor, along with the Web site materials for Instructors and
Students. aculty-specific materials are available on the password-protected section of the
Instructor !esource "enter and student-oriented materials are available on the te#tboo$
companion Web site. The desired Web site resources may be accessed by selecting the related
lin$ at www.pearsonhighered.com%hoffer. & 'uic$ (uide that outlines the available resources
accompanying the te#tboo$ is printed inside the front cover of the te#tboo$ and is also available
for download from the companion Web site.
The Web site resources provide substantial support to the topics covered in the te#tboo$ and are
very valuable learning aids for both instructors and students. Two different physical database
implementations for the Pine Valley Furniture Company (PVFC) case study )that accompanies
all full-te#t printed chapters* are provided as part of the Web site resources. & simplified version
with limited data, BooPVFC, is provided to illustrate S'+ commands covered in "hapters , and
- of the te#tboo$. & more complete version with e#panded structure and data, BigPVFC, is
provided to facilitate the completion of .roblems and /#ercises in "hapters , and -. /ach
version of the database is available in MS-&ccess, 0racle script, and comma-delimited formats,
and the simplified version )BooPVFC* is also available as an S'+ Server script. &dditionally,
instructors are welcome to access both .1" databases at the Teradata 2niversity 3etwor$ and
Teradata Student 3etwor$ resources, in addition to other production-si4ed sample databases, in
support of database topical instruction with the Modern Database Management, 11

edition
te#tboo$ adoption. The case study databases provide ready access to hands-on practice and
e#ploration for database implementation and S'+ topics.
The student-oriented materials hosted on the te#tboo$ companion Web site include the full-te#t
chapters 56758 of the te#tboo$, data and documentation files for the .1" case study, lin$s to
all the Web resources mentioned in the te#t, glossaries, additional topical materials,
downloadable version of the 'uic$ (uide to resources with embedded hyperlin$s, and "amtasia
video tutorials that supplement selected chapters with content on more difficult concepts and
helpful hints.
The faculty-specific materials include this Instructors Manual, .ower.oint slides, Test Item
iles, data and documentation files for the .1" case study, additional topical materials, Image

Graphics in the Instructors Manual
&ppendi# & covers several commonly used modeling tools used to depict entity-relationship and
other data modeling formalisms. The ma:ority of the Instructors Manual solutions to chapter
!eview 'uestions%.roblems and /#ercises were created using the #martDra$ drawing tool )see
www.smartdraw.com for more details*, in order to depict the data models according to te#tboo$
notational convention re?uirements and to focus on the logical data modeling re?uirements% The
1isio drawing tool was used to produce the images when re?uired by the specific end-of-chapter
material, and to produce the ob:ect-oriented class diagrams. In order to support cross-platform
usage of the Instructors Manual files, all diagrams were converted to (raphic Interchange
ormat ).gif* prior to inclusion in the Instructors Manual chapters.
