The Project 1 - 1

CHAPTER 1
THE PROJECT

1.1 Rationale/Background
In the last five years, Pasay City has realized an increasing mortality rate for kidney
diseases. Moreover, Pasay City General Hospital (PCGH) has recorded statistics on
patients needing dialysis treatment in their hospital but they were unable to accommodate
them because they do not have a dialysis center. Even with the existence of two (2)
private dialysis clinics in Asian Renal Care Center and San Juan De Dios Educational
Foundation, demand for dialysis treatment was not fully remedied and addressed. And
because they are private hospitals, lower class citizens of Pasay City are not capable of
paying for a P3,000 P4,000 dialysis treatment.
As a general hospital and the only public hospital in Pasay City, PCGH has proposed to
establish a dialysis center in their hospital to cater to poor patients in need of quality and
affordable dialysis treatments.
1.2 Project Goal/Purpose
The project aims to provide a dialysis unit in Pasay City General Hospital to support the
medical necessities of patients with kidney failure. It is anticipated that the provision of
medical facilities, equipment and the manpower is needed for this establishment. This
will help with the decrease of deaths attributed to kidney failure. Having the dialysis
center would also enhance the access to a public health dialysis service because this will
be the only public health dialysis in Pasay thereby being more accessible to the people of
Pasay and its neighboring areas. This will also be of great help to people who could not
afford availing dialysis centers in private hospitals.
1.3 The Project Feasibility Study Undertaking
1.3.1 Objectives
This study aims to determine the feasibility of establishing a dialysis center in the Pasay
City Genera Hospital to support the medical necessities of patients with kidney failure.
Specifically, the study aims to determine the following:
To determine the viability of constructing a dialysis center in Pasay citys main
government hospital.
To determine the capacity of the government and the hospital in maintaining the
dialysis center.
To find out if there is a demand for a dialysis center.

The Project 1 - 2

1.3.2 Study Approach and Methodology
The study will look at the demand for the project by analyzing relevant statistics on
kidney diseases and dialysis treatments. Listing of investment and equipment costs will
determine the total cost of the project. Revenue and operation costs will be projected and
compare to come up with criterion for financial analysis and viability. Operations,
Management, and Socio-economic impact of the project will also be explored.
