ASEAN EMBLEM

The ASEAN Flag represents a stable, peaceful, unites, and dynamic
ASEAN.
Blue represents peace and stability.
Red depicts courage and dynamism.
White shows purity.
Yellow shows symbolizes prosperity.
The ten stalks of padi (in the emblem) represent the dream of
ASEANs founding father for an ASEAN comprising all the ten
countries in Southeast Asia bound together in friendship and
solidarity.
The circle represents the unity of ASEAN.

1. ASEAN was found on 8 August 1967.

2. ASEAN Declaration was signed by Indonesia, Malaysia,
Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, known as Bangkok
Declaration.

3. The founding fathers that signed ASEAN Declaration were:
a. Adam Malik from Indonesia.
b. Tun Abdul Razak from Malaysia.
c. Narcisco Ramos from Philippines.
d. S. Rajaratnam from Singapore.
e. Thanat Khoman from Thailand.

4. Years later, some ASEAN countries joined the association:
a. Brunei Darussalam, 7 January 1984.
b. Vietnam, 28 July 1995.
c. Laos, 23 July 1997.
d. Myanmar, 23 July 1997.
e. Cambodia, 30 April 1999.

5. The ASEAN community is comprised of three pilars, namely:
a. ASEAN Political-security Community.
b. ASEAN Economic Community.
c. ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.

6. External Realtions:
a. ASEAN Dialogue Partner.
b. ASEAN Plus Three.

7. In their relations with one another, the ASEAN member states
have adopted the following fundamental principles, as contained
in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC)
of 1976:
a. Mutual respect for the independence. Sovereighty, equality,
territorial integrity, andd national identity of all nations.
b. The right of every State to leaddd its national existence free
from external interference, subversion or coercion.
c. Non-interference in the internal affairs of one another.
d. Settlement of differences or disputers by peaceful manner.
e. Renunciation of the threat or use of force.
f. Effective cooperation among themselves.

8. The ASEAN Economic Community:
a. Establish ASEAN as a single market and production base.
b. Turning the diversity that characterizes the region into
opportunities for business complementation.
c. Making the ASEAN a more dynamic and stronger segment of
the global supply chain.

9. ASEANs strategy shall consist of the integration of ASEAN and
enhancing ASEANs economic competitiveness.

10. The ASEAN Declaration laid down seven aims and purposes for
the association:
a. Accelerate the economic growth, social progress, and cultural
development.
b. Promote regional peace and stability.
c. Promote active collaboration and mutual assistance in the
economic, social, cultural, technical, scientific, and
administrative fields.
d. Provide assitance to each other in the form of training and
research facilities in the educational, professional, technical,
and administrative spheres.
e. Collaborate in agriculture, industries, trade, transportation,
and communications facilities and the improvement living
standards of their peoples.
f. Promote Southeast Asian studies.
g. Maintain cooperation with existing international and regional
organizations with similar aims and purposes.

11. ASEAN Plus Three is a cooperation between Southeast and
Northeast Asian Countries which has accelerated with the
holding of an annual summit among the leaders of ASEAN, China,
Japan, and The Republic of Korea.

12. Most ASEAN member countries also participate actively in the
activities of the Asia-Pasific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the
Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), and the East Asia-Latin America
Forum (EALAF).

13. The ASEAN Vision 2020 affirms an outward-looking ASEAN
playing a pivotal role in the international community and
advancing ASEANs common interest.

14. ASEAN has 11 dialogue partners:
a. Australia.
b. Canada
c. China.
d. The Eurpean Union.
e. India.
f. Japan.
g. The Republic of Korea.
h. New Zealand.
i. Russia.
j. The United States.
k. The United Nations Development Programme.

15. General Infromation of ASEAN:
a. The ASEAN motto is One Vision, One identity, One
community.
b. The current ASEAN secretariat General is Surin Pitsuwan.
c. ASEAN Secretariat Building is located in Jakarta.
d. Each decision issued by ASEAN has gone through the process
in ASEAN Summit.
e. ASEAN Summit is an annual meeting held by ASEAN in
relation to economic and cultural development of Southeast
Asian countries.
