I am applying to study Zoology because I have a strong passion for animals and the environment. I am particularly interested in physiology, animal behavior, ecology, and biodiversity. I have studied these topics in my International Baccalaureate program and want to further my knowledge with a focus on animals. Specifically, I am concerned with the declining population of fireflies in my hometown and want to better understand the causes so I can help address this issue. I enjoy exploring nature and photographing animals, and I believe all living things have important roles to play in the ecosystem.

I am applying to study Zoology because my enthusiasm for the environment and my
fascination for animals. I am particularly interested in physiology and animal behaviour, as well as ecology and biodiversity which I have studied at International Baccalaureate, and would welcome the opportunity of acquiring further knowledge on biological aspects with a focus on animals. Specifically, I always think to do something about the reduction of some species in my place such as firefly that once copiousness but my knowledge about fireflies is very limited. I had gone through the internet and manage to find out relationship between fireflies (lympiradae) and mangrove but the cause of fading fireflies remain unknown. I really need to do something because this is the main tourist attraction in my place. I myself love to get into the wild. It is a gift for me because I still have plenty of forest in my country contradict with some places that drastically develop. I also enjoy taking picture of animals especially insect because for me, they are beautiful in their own way. Despite the facts that all the living thing have their own roles in the ecosystem, some does not understand this and does not appreciate other living this such as flies, worms, and other animals. When make contact with human, they usually killed on site. I really thwarted to see this happen. When I counter dangerous animal such as snakes, I would not kill unless forced to do so because I know, they have their own role such as pest control and as a God creation, we do not have right to take away their life. I involved in preserving green in my IB complex. I as the project manager helped by my friends and advised by our lecturer planted some trees and preserves them. Until now, they grow healthily and beautify our IB compound. We set up sprinkle system to ease us water the trees instead using conventional ways that way too exhausting. My subjects support my interest in the overlap between real-life studies, scientific theory and the 'wider economic and social context as explored in five group of subjects introduced by International Baccalaureate which are first language, second language, science, social science and arts. The purpose of taking a wide choice of subject is to make us all- rounder student which can globally. If there is a problem, we can use our knowledge not only in science, but also social science, and even arts. Not to mention Theory of Knowledge subject that thought in IB that guide us to think based on ways of knowing and area of knowledge. Moreover, Creativity, Action, and Service that we IB diploma need to do make us more durable and adventurous. Since us, IB student need to take second language, English would not be a problem for me. Yet, this will ease me to communicate in English spoken country including New Zealand. I had learned a little bit about biodiversity and ecosystem in my Biology subject. However, it only cover some topics including theory of evolution, biomass, Lincoln index and biodiversity. Although, our syllabus is not too deep but learning Darwin theory of evolution really open up my eyes. Natural selection that he suggested are also can be applied to our life as human. We adapt to our environment. We change when we need to in order to survive and who fail to change will be extinct. It is my philosophy of life. If we want to achieve something we need to put our effort even we need to change a little.
