Strategies for Close Reading Close reading is when
students carefully and purposeful read to uncover layers
of meaning that lead to deep comprehension. It requires
students to interact with the text via questioning,
highlighting, and annotating. Presented by Courtney
Giles, Reading Specialist.
Study Island Study Island is an internet based, fun study
place for ELA, math, science, & social studies using games and quizzes to help student's
testing skills & scores. Presented by Linda Gates, 6th Grade ELA Teacher.
Why Do We Study Social Studies? Social Studies isn't just history, its everything! We
discuss things on how to become a better citizen and we learn about the past to make better
decisions in the future. We also discuss diplomacy and international relations. Presented by
Michael Waldrop, 7th Grade Social Studies Teacher & Erica Shuler, 7th Grade ELA Teacher.
