ANALYSIS: APPLE (AAPL) and their iPHONE SUPPLIERS

This report provides a useful overview of some of Apple's biggest suppliers for iPhone parts ahead of the well anticipated
launch of the expected iPhone at the media event scheduled for 1800BST/1200CDT September 9th 2014. This report was
compiled by analysing a number reports which confirmed members of the Apple supply chain and speculated suppliers but also by
collating company names which have seen movement in shares during previous Apple media events and in reaction to speculation
leading up to Apples media event 2014. The graphic below is a snap-shot of suppliers to the iPhone, and a table is available of page
2 which has a more exhaustive list of US suppliers**. Expectations for the next generation iPhone are also available on the next page

EXPECTATIONS FOR iPHONE 6
BIGGER SCREEN
Expectations are for two new iPhone models which will come with larger screens. One is expected to display a 4.7 inch and one a
5.5 inch display, which compares with a 4 inch display in the iPhone 5 series.
SAPPHIRE DISPLAY
One of the most notable user problems with the current iPhone models is that many are unimpressed by the nature of the iPhone
screen to scratch and crack upon impact to counter this problem Apple have been experimenting with hard-wearing sapphire
glass (already used in touch ID and rear camera lenses). Sapphire glass is expected to be used for the display in one of the iPhone
6 models, but not both due to the high cost of the material. GT Advanced (GTAT) are one the leading producers of this material,
and so if it is confirmed that GTAT will be used for a phone display shares will likely see an aggressive bid, although this would
have a negative impact on manufacturers of gorilla glass, Corning (GLW).
BATTERY LIFE
The new model is expected to feature Apple's next generation A8 processor, which should give the smartphone a large
performance boost. The aforementioned A8 processor is also expected to improve power efficiency, and therefore increase battery
life.
iWALLET
Apple is expected to use Near Field Communication (NFC) in their new iPhone 6, the technology used for contactless payments.
Apple is said to have been in discussion with Visa (V), MasterCard (MA) and American Express (AXP) to develop an 'iWallet'
payment system, which would allow users to pay for things using their phone. Reports have suggested the source of the NFC
hardware will be NXP Semiconductor (NXPI).
BETTER CAMERA
Apple's new device is also expected to have a vastly improved camera, with a 13-megapixel sensor provided by Sony (SNE).

SHARE PRICE REACTIONS Historical price action following Apple media events
Apples shares have experienced volatility in recent days, and as Apple account for over 12% of the NASDAQ 100 and more
than the bottom 47 companies in the index put together, these moves have had an impact on the direction of related news and
the US stock market as a whole.
On Thursday 4
th
September Apple suffered their biggest single-day decline since January and a firm break below USD 100/shr (a
level which shares still sit below after Pacific Crest recommended taking profits ahead of the new iPhone launch), which has
caused many to speculate that this recent decline creates a good buy-opportunity and a chance of get back in the stock ahead of
the event. Historically there has been a theme of buy the rumour, sell the fact ahead of new product launches, although
some investment banks including BMO Capital are reiterating their outperform rating and expect investors will keep their stake in
the company due to the potential strong demand and limited supply for the iPhone 5.5 model. Many expect a potential iWatch
launch to also support prices, and the historical sell the news theme of previous launches could be mitigated if the iWatch is
announced, although a delay in the launch of a brand new product will likely leave investors disappointed.

Stock reactions from Apple media event on September 10
th
2013:
Apple (AAPL) shares suffered losses of around 2.5% on the day of the iPhone 5S & 5C launch and 5.4% the day after as
their WWDC failed to reveal any surprise, and the pricing of the new cheaper brand (5C) was seen to be too high for the
model to be successful in the Chinese market.
InvenSense (INVN) shares gained over 2.6% almost immediately after it was announced that Apple iPhone 5s included
touch-ID fingerprint sensor technology, and ARM Holdings ADR (ARMH) gained over 5% after it was unveiled that Apple
iPhone 5S will use a ARM Holdings (ARMH) 64bit chip. Conversely Pandora (P) shares saw selling pressure after Apple
announced they were adding Pandora-like iTunes radio feature with IOS 7 software.

OTHER POTENTIAL PRODUCTS iWatch
Although some expect a brand new product to be announced alongside a new iPhone, many think the launch of the iWatch will be
a separate occasion and the product is not yet ready for distribution. It is possible that the iPhone-compatible smartwatch will
accompany the announcement of a new iPhone on September 9
th
however it is likely to come with a 2015 release date and
a high retail price. BMO have said that if the iWatch is not announced, it may place some near-term pressure on Apple shares, but
they nonetheless think the pending launch of the iWatch will keep investors interested in the shares.
Many technology firms have been exploring the increasingly popular world of wearable technology, and the iWatch has the
potential to pack-in a lot of new features including the technology for a wellness and fitness tracker, wireless charging, flexible
OLED screens, and NFC support for Apples potential mobile payments system, however this all remains speculation. One big
sticking-point with investors could be the bill though, with suggestion that the price-tag will be in excess of USD 300.
