Planning Brief

Overview:
Implosion is about a grown, working man, divorced with a child. He is what is known as a good-for-
nothing layabout. A drunk. A drunken mess. He is lost, and things are just about to get worse. After
waking up one morning to 14 new voicemails, he is late for work, again. He curses and get up, not
even bothering to change for a new day. He knows that those around him are truly worried for him,
either that or they are plain gossips - his workmates. He knows that people are talking, he doesnt
need to be told. He tells himself that its okay to be this way. Its okay to slack, he has lost
everything. His wife, his daughter and little does he know he is also about to lose his job; things are
not good. He tries, he wants to be happier, be better at his job as a teacher, help his students, be
there for his wonderful daughter; he wants - to put it simply - turn his life around. But will that be
possible? If so, will it happen any time soon? If not, what could possibly get in his way? Little does he
know, this day that started off on the wrong foot, is only about to get worse.

The genre of this short film is a drama; the following are example of dramas:
Titanic (1997)
Crash (2004)
The Shining (1980)
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Fight Club (1999)

Target Audience:
Our production is aimed at all age groups however in order to narrow it down, we aim to present
out final production from those around the ages of 12-30, we believe at this age group, people are
either learning about the mere concept of love, or are experiencing it and therefore feel they can
relate to the production.
We have created a very stereotypical love story and we aim to please our audience by making them
relate to it or learn from it. We have therefore decided to classify our film as a 12.

Promotion/Publication:
YouTube would be an obvious way to promote out
final production, many of those in our target audience
are likely to use it, many are also it allows us to upload
are video and get it across to a wide audience, thus increasing
the status and popularity.

Another way to promote our film would be through popular
social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook. These sites
are very popular amongst the people of today and it would
therefore allow us to increase its popularity.

Also, we can use our very own blog, which is on blooger to promote
our final production, many young people use this blogging site and so
therefore, we can promote our production and create awareness.

Comparable products researched in to:
Shame (2001) this film is to do with a character, which has a sexual addiction, this may be related
to our short film as it involves how the character is affecting his family and his loved ones around
him. In our production, our main character is an alcoholic and as a result, he is affecting his
daughter, his friend and work, and possibly even the mother of his child, which he had recently
divorced. Similarly, the genre of the production is a drama.
House of Cards (Ongoing TV Program) This American show has a character named Peter Russo
similar to our character in our short film; the character of Peter has two kids, he is divorced and has
two children, however he is trying to turn his life around and get back on track, although this isnt to
be shown in our production, it is in the general background and in the synopsis. Both characters
have an addiction and both products have their genre in common.

Representations:

Our final product may be classed, as a countertype as the ending of a drama is usually
resolved at the end however for us, it is likely that out finale will be left on a cliffhanger
which is arguably stereotypical as it may be classed as stereotypical. Our main character is
an alcoholic and in this day an age, this may something that the audience can feel they can
relate to or at least empathize with as it a lot less rare amongst society,

How to test the success of our product:

As a pair we have decided that we will test the success of our product by uploading it to
YouTube, Twitter and our very own blog in hopes of receiving likes and of course, more
views.
Another way in which we will test the achievement of our final product is to firstly, hand out
a post questionnaire, after having collected the results to this, we plan to compare it to the
results of a our pre-questionnaire results we will then contrast and compare the results
from both graphs and charts, hoping that the end result gets more, higher ratings. This will
hopefully help us to understand if we have truly met our target, and of course, if we have
not.

Generic codes and conventions:

Slow motion - emphasis on scenes
Freeze frame - emphasis on frame; lets realistion sink in
Soliloquy - declaring true intent grabs attention of audience
Entrances/exits - if classed as dramatic may leave audience in shock
Flashbacks -giving a glimpse on the past allows more understanding
Narration - again, allows further understanding
Spoken thought - again, allows further understanding
Lighting - can easily change the general mood and atmosphere
Conflict - heightens the interest of audience members
Tension - again, heightens the interest
Struggles - allows further empathy
Pain - again, allows further empathy
Realisation at the end - allows audience to feel they can relate as this is something that
happens often
Constraints:
Time management This is an essential part of our final
product; it requires organisation,
dedication and honesty. Some days,
actors may not be free and others, I,
the director and camerawoman may
not be free so it will be difficult
however if organised well and in
advance, we should be able to
overcome the obstacle
Equipment Sometimes, equipment can be very
heavy and also, others in the class
may book it before us thus making it
difficult to book when necessary,
again, it simply takes organisation, if
organised well, all should go
according to plan.
Money This may sometimes be an issue as
the setting may or may not mainly be
in the heart of London, and even a
hotel at one point therefore, travel
costs may be an issue however, if
organised well, cost can be spread
out between each member.
