Yajur eda in Sanskrit means %wisdom o& sa'ri('ial &ormulas%) This eda 'ompiled a 'entury or two later
than the *ig-eda+ 'ontains prose and verse &ormulas that were to ,e pronoun'ed ,y the priests per&orming
the manual part o& the sa'ri('e) -t des'ri,es in prose the pro'edural details o& per&orming di.erent rituals
and Yajnas using the hymns o& the *ig eda " -n the edi' sa'ri('e a god or gods are invoked ,y the hymns
or mantras) O.erings o& &ood+ ,utter+ or soma are prepared and o.ered to the (re+ whi'h as an
intermediary god+ 'onveys these to the other gods) $ This eda is the most important te/t &or the priests+
,e'ause it 'on'erns itsel& with the 'orre't per&orman'e o& sa'ri('es) The priests o& this eda are 'alled
#dhwaryus)

in'reasingly ela,orate+ and priests ,e'ame highly skilled spe'ialists) There were many di.erent kinds o&
sa'ri('es like the &amous horse sa'ri('e+ the soma sa'ri('e+ sa'ri('es per&ormed during various
'eremonies like the !oronation 'eremonies o& kings+ marriage 'eremonies et') O& them all the highest
sa'ri('e was 'onsidered to ,e the Sarvamedha in whi'h the sa'ri('er o.ered all o& his possessions as the

The Yajur eda seen ,y the outer vision is the eda o& ritual) On an inner level+ it sets &orth a yogi' pra'ti'e
&or puri&ying the mind and awakening the inner 'ons'iousness) 0hile the lesser sa'ri('es win the lesser
worlds+ the Sel&-sa'ri('e or the #tmaYajna wins all the worlds and gains the greatest gi&t o& immortality) Sri
