TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, AUGUST 17, 2014

From the Desk of Fr. Underwood:

Fruitful Harvest 2012: The 2012 Fruitful
Harvest Campaign is completed and we are
working hard to get ready for the next
campaign. It wasnt long after ordination that
I quickly realized how much our diocesan
offices provide to support our parish ministries.
There is always someone able to answer a
question or provide the necessary support when
we need them. And, none of this would be
possible without the Fruitful Harvest bi-annual appeal. Thank you to
those who have sacrificed with gifts toward this campaign. There is
still around $20,000 in St. Lawrence pledges that have not yet been
satisfied. If you are able to fulfill your commitment, please contact the
parish office this month.
Are You Registered to Vote? The Indiana Catholic Conference is
reminding us that one of the greatest privileges of being an American is
the opportunity to voice our opinion through the electoral process. All
citizens 18 and older should register to vote by October 6th. As Catholics,
this is a great way for us to make a difference in the world and spread our
faith by selecting those who uphold Gods laws and the dignity of the
human person. Dont miss your chance to make a difference!
Human Life is Sacred! Pray and witness to this truth by participating in
the National Life Chain (Oct. 5th) and the 40 Days for Life campaign
(Sept. 24th-Nov. 2nd). More information can be found in this and
upcoming bulletins.
Next weekend we will celebrate Catechetical Sunday; a time when we
give thanks to those in our parish who fulfill the ministry of faith
formation in our Schools, Religious Education Programs, Youth Group
and RCIA. What a blessing it is to have these people sharing their faith
and passing our Catholic faith on to generations to come. Please keep
them all in prayer this year.
School Choice Celebration! On Sept. 22nd at 4:00pm, the Lafayette
Catholic School System will be joining with Faith Christian, Lafayette
Christian, and St. James Lutheran Schools to celebrate the Indiana School
Choice Scholarship Program. We want to pack the house at Ivy Tech
NCHS Auditorium to show support for this important program that has
supported families in their choice of education for their children. With it,
300 Catholic school students have benefited so far. Bishop Doherty will
be a guest speaker at this event. Thank you to all who are able to attend.
Dont forget that the Blessing of Animals is Saturday, October 4
th
at
10:00 in the courtyard, the annual Parish Nurse Health Fair is
Wednesday, October 8
th
in the Social Hall from 1:00 to 3:00, and the
Annual Living Rosary will be Wednesday, October 8
th
at 7:15 in the
courtyard. Mark your calendars and plan to attend.

RCIA - Precatechumenate or Inquiry
Conversion is a gradual process or a faith
journey. The first step in this journey is the
inquiry stage. This period may last a long
time. One needs to be aware that gradual conversion cannot
be measured in earth time, but in God's time. The aim of
this period is to awaken one's faith. It is characterized by:
Sharing stories about the Catholic faith.
Answering questions about why Catholics do the things
they do.
Proclaiming the message of salvation through the Word.
Introduction into parish life.
Building trust and community.
Once God's time has been fulfilled and the inquirer is ready
to take the first step in the process of conversion, they will
be invited to participate in The Rite of Acceptance into the
Order of Catechumens. Inquiry now meets every Sunday
at 9:30am in the St. Clare room at the Parish Office Bldg.
We would love for you to join us. You must attend inquiry
sessions before you can be invited to participate in the Rite
of Acceptance on October 26
th
at the 9:30am Mass.
RCIA will begin meeting on Wednesday nights starting
September 10
th
from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Social Hall. If
you have questions please call the Parish Office or Jim &
Connie at 447-2939.

High School freshman prepare for the Sacrament of
Confirmation. Our policy is that a young person must be
participating in the religious education program or a
Catholic school one full year prior to the year in which they
receive the sacrament. Policy also states that a student must
attend 80% of the classes. For religious education classes
one must be attending classes prior to October 1st.
Confirmation
St. Lawrence currently confirms young people who are in
their freshman year of high school. We do accept older
students who have yet to be confirmed. The policy of
St. Lawrence mandates that a young person must have
participated in religious education program or at a

Life Chain 2014

Life Chain is taking place this year on Sunday,
October 5th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. It is a time set aside
to remind people of faith of the sanctity of human life
and to confirm factual truth in the minds of people who
waver about the humanity of a fetusabortion is indeed
the killing of an unborn child. Millions of Americans
have had their lives terminated through abortion and the
long term effects on their mothers, their families and
society are only now coming to the light.
Join other pro-life people for one hour on Sunday,
October 5th at S.R. 26 from Lafayette Courthouse
across to Purdue. Signs are provided. Sign up after all
the Masses the weekends of September 20/21 and
27/28 or call the Parish Office at 742-2107.
