Officers Officially Sworn in as

Student Council
By Alexander A. Bea

After the Elections on Tuesday last week, The
SC Officers were inducted into office on July 11,
2014 during the Feast of St. Benedict. As dozens
of students gather in the basketball court to
attend the mass in honor of the schools patron
saint, the Student Council Officers were asked
to go in front of the altar to take their oaths and
be blessed by holy water by the priest. The
officers promised that this school year will be
like no other, they have many promises to fulfill
and new projects to accomplish and new ideas
for the entire school. It will be the first time that
the majority of the members in the Student
Council are from one party: GENES. The GENES
Political Party took all of the seats in the
student council except the Secretary, which will
be held by the Wolfpack party. Their ideas for
the next event are unknown but we will expect
that their idea is a fun one and they can accept
ideas from the students of the school. When I
asked the treasurer, he said that he will make
the school a better place and we hope that he
will fulfill his promise and help students succeed
in all avenues of life. We know there will be
some problems but we know that the Student
Council will do its job perfectly. Before the
elections, the political parties were campaigning
and giving promises to us so that we can earn
our votes, lets hope that we made the right
choice, but if anything happens we must live
with the consequences of our votes. The school
has experienced many changes thanks to the
Student Council; lets hope this years change
will benefit the school, the faculty, and the
students. This years Student Council will help
give a voice to the students and accept their
ideas for our events and will work with the
administration to help solve issues in our
school. They are confident enough that they can
do their job and are not afraid to do so. They
will see that each level in school will be learning
in a fun and fair way. Their goals are to improve
the relationship between the students and the
teachers, solve issues such as bullying, to
facilitate events in the school calendar, to bring
fun to school, and to become role models for
the students. The student council will create so
many changes that when the school year ends,
the school will be completely transformed. They
will create a lasting impact on the school and
help it fulfill its mission and vision and use
systems thinking and knowledge from the past
school years as their method of implementing
change to the school and help it implement the
K-12 curriculum properly. They will bring the
school into a new generation by adding new
technologies, new learning techniques for a
better learning experience, and help the school
survive tough challenges, whether it is natural
disasters or a decaying economy, the school will
stand strong with the help of the Student
Council. The power to change is now in their
hands, every decision and idea counts, so they
have to become responsible and strong in spite
of the challenges ahead. They will help the
school for it to seek to develop in the students:
1. Spiritual, moral and character
formation;
2. Literacy skills such as comprehension,
observation, imagination, thinking,
reasoning;
3. Communication and articulation with
their countrymen and people of other
nations;
4. Mathematical skills;
5. Correct attitudes toward work and
personal efforts;
6. Independent study habits and wise
management of time;
7. Interest in and curiosity for intellectual
pursuits;
8. Practical commonsensical skills to
enable them to make spontaneous,
discerned and effective decisions
without being over dependent on
theories;
9. Knowledge and appreciation of their
own culture and its relevance to a
changing world;
10. Respect for individuals with different
cultural heritage;
11. Desire to be active agents of change to
bring about a better society and world;
12. Appreciation of the beauty of the world
around them; and
13. Physical fitness, emotional health and
maturity, and wholesome personality.
We hope that the student council will follow in
the footsteps of St. Benedict and convince
future students that this school is the perfect
place to learn. The student council believes that
education is a cooperative undertaking of the
home and the school, which requires unity of
purpose and consistency in the pursuit of this
end. They will make this school into one of the
top schools in this city and they are committed
to an educational program that forms the
human person. The academic program
integrates the various areas of knowledge and
information, skills and values; and ensures that
the different aspects of the learners growth:
spiritual-moral, intellectual, psycho-emotional,
socio-cultural, aesthetics, and physical-mental
health in commensurate with ones maturity and
development are given equal importance and
consideration. These programs will help the
school for the benefit of everyone. They will
improve the speech, computer, and science
labs, the English Resource Center, the L.E Room,
and Library to bring out the schools full
potential and bring in new facilities to bring out
the students full potential. They will make
learning fun and challenging to help the
students participate in activities and make the
school a place where people share their ideas to
each other in order to improve our society. We
have a student council election because of one
thing, to help students to practice and learn the
value of suffragesomething that is often, but
should not be, taken for granted. In todays
world people elect representatives so that the
people could have a voice in the government, in
this school, we elect representatives so that we
could have a voice in the school administration
not just for important decisions but also for the
mere fact that we, as a significant entity in the
school, have representation from one of us. It is
a government of the students, by the students,
and for the students.
