SENATE CANDIDATE GEORGE AMEDORE ANNOUNCES OUTSIDE MONEY COUNTDOWN CALENDER
With fifty-one days left until Election Day, State Senate candidate George Amedore today announced his campaign will maintain an Outside Money Countdown Calendar. The calendar will count down the days until New York City-dominated groups pour hundreds of thousands of dollars or more into the race to pay for negative campaign ads and mailers on behalf of Cecilia Tkaczyk.
In 2012, organizations from outside the 46 th district -- including Friends of Democracy and Protect Our Democracy -- unleashed an unprecedented level of resources at the last minute to air attack ads and send negative mailers against George Amedore.
As we enter the final months of the campaign, we all know the list of usual suspects are going to come out of the woodwork with their New York City money and inundate voters with scare tactics and smear campaigns," said Amedore. "When it happened two years ago, they didn't let me down -- they let the voters of this Senate district down. Unfortunately, we all know whats coming, but the voters won't be fooled again. At the end of the day, the families of the 46 th deserve better. Cecilia Tkaczyk cannot be the so-called poster child for campaign finance reform, and at the same time build her campaign on a foundation of the worst type of politics.
"As each day passes without a negative mailer or attack ad funded by one of Senator Tkaczyks allies, well cross a page off the calendar. Honestly, we dont expect it to last very long," said Amedore.
Many of the groups who dumped in the outside money are the very same groups who champion public financing of campaigns. -more- Having seen firsthand how outside money can influence the outcome of an election, I appreciate the need to update campaign finance regulations. But forcing hardworking taxpayers to foot the bill for the phone calls, mailers, and advertisements that they don't want is something I cant support, Amedore said.
Ive spent months knocking on doors and talking to the men and women of the district about important issues impacting the district. Im not relying on third parties to come in and scare people into voting for me. Lets have a conversation about what we stand for, not what special interest groups from outside the 46 th district dictate to us.
