Product Description
SafeNet Luna XML is a network attached hardware security appliance providing cryptographic acceleration,
hardware key management, and multiple configuration profiles, via a Java API.

Your Old Luna XML must be at Firmware 4.6.1
. This would normally be the case for version 1.0 of Luna XML, unless your system was an early (pre-1.0)
beta version, which must be updated to 1.0 before you continue.
Before Upgrading to Release 1.1.0
Required Packages
Luna XML Appliance Software Release 1.1.0-x, in the form of a .tar archive
You Will Need:
HSM Admin login privileges (the blue PED Key)
The update software if you have the Luna XML CD listed, you can use it, when requested in this
document, or you can transfer the files from the SafeNet ftp site.

Upgrade Paths
One update package is provided:
for Luna XML starting at version 1.0.0, 1.0.1 or 1.0.2 (6100xx-00x.tar)
Your Luna XML must be at one of those versions in order to upgrade to release 1.1.0. If you have a different
version installed (pre-1.0 beta), you must first bring your system to one of the versions listed above. Contact
Customer Support at:
support@safenet-inc.com for the upgrade CD and documents. Follow the supplied instructions.
The end result of this current upgrade will have:
your Luna XML appliance software at version 1.1.0
your Luna XML appliance firmware at version 4.6.1.

Preparing to Upgrade
1. We recommend that you have your Luna XML connected to an uninterruptible power supply
(UPS), to ensure a successful completion of all update activities.
2. Backup any important content to Luna Backup Tokens (if you have the Backup option).
3. Copy the Luna XML 1.1.0 Appliance package file from the CD or the ftp directory to the Luna XML,
as follows:
For UNIX:
a. ./scp /<path>/release1.1.0-x-updatePatch.spkg admin@<LunaXMLhostname>:
Note: For HP-UX, filenames may be truncated to 8.3 format.
For Windows:
a. scp \<path>\release1.1.0-x-updatePatch.spkg admin@<LunaXMLhostname>:


Update the Luna XML Appliance Software, to Release 1.1.0
1. Stop all client applications connected to the Luna XML.
2. At the console, login to the Luna XML appliance as admin.
3. Ensure that a Luna PED II is connected to the appliance and in Awaiting command state.
4. Install the software upgrade package on the Luna XML
package update release1.1.0-x-updatePatch.spkg -authcode ###############
where "################" is the authorization code from the file release1.1.0-x-
updatePatch.auth.

The -x in the example above, should be replaced by the actual build number of the released

package (type the package filename as you find it). The #####s represent the authorization code
that you must read from the updatePatch.auth file and type in with the update command.
The installation/update operation requires HSM login, which is included in the command. You are
referred to the PED, which prompts for the blue SO/HSM Admin PED Key (and optional PED PIN
if you had previously set one).
The installation/update process requires approximately one and a half minutes. During that time, a
series of messages shows the progress of the update.
5. At the end of this process, a message Software update completed! appears, with instructions to
reboot the system; reboot the system at this time.
Use the appliance reboot command.
6. Login again as admin and confirm that lunash now indicates Luna XML Command Line Shell
v1.1.0-x.
For UNIX:
Use ./ssh admin@<LunaXMLhostname>
For Windows:
Use Putty.exe (or other SSH client).
Select protocol SSH.
Type in the hostname or IP address that you have assigned to your Luna XML, and press [Enter] to bring
up an ssh login session.
Update the Luna XML HSM Firmware

Update the Luna XML Backup Token Firmware
[Not applicable for this release]
Update the Luna XML Resources and Admin Docs
Just copy from the Resource CD, overwriting any older versions. There are no drivers or libraries nor
any other software needing formal installation.
