Godly Exercise

Read 1Timothy 4:7-9 KJV

v.7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto
godliness.

v.8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things,
having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

v.9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

What does it mean to exercise godliness?

_________________________________________________________________

Are you exercising godliness?

_________________________________________________________________

Why is it that the Bible says bodily exercise profits little?

_________________________________________________________________

These are all questions that we need to ask ourselves! Let’s look at the last one.

Why is it that bodily exercise profits little?

1. Most of us will not stick with it long enough to do any good.

2. Even if we do stay with it our bodies still grow old and weak.

What does it mean to exercise godliness?

Not all Church members even pray before a meal!
Prayer is more than just us talking to God; it is also God speaking to us.
Are we listening?
God hears even the prayers of the lost!

If your eternity depends on your prayer life, will you make it?
If someone else is depending on you to pray with them, are you?
Does God hear your Prayers?
Do you hear God’s Prayers?

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Getting a Grip on God’s Word

Hear the Word --- For Faith

Read the Word --- Fellowship with God

Study the Word --- For Knowledge

Memorize the Word --- For Effectiveness

Meditate on the Word --- For Understanding

Apply the Word --- For Personal Life Change

Look at the first five; hear thru meditate, if each one represents one your
fingers and thumb. Now if you were falling and about to be lost forever, what
kind of grip would you have to hold on to God’s hand if you used only one
finger?
Now if apply the word is your palm, and the other forms of study are your
fingers and thumb, what kind of grip would you have if you used them all
together? What is your chance of falling and being lost?

Be Holy
Ephesians 1:4 KJV Be Holy
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the
world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Eph. 1:1b To the faithful in Christ Jesus:

Paul is writing to the faithful in Christ Jesus. Take a moment and think
carefully, does this describe you?
The following verses describe God’s Grace upon the Faithful.

v. 4 --- he hath ___________ ____ in him before the foundation of the world.

v. 4b that we should be ________ and without _____________.

v. 5b --- according to the ________ __________ of his will,

v. 6b --- hath made us __________ in the beloved.

v. 7a --- we have ____________ through his blood.

v. 7b --- ____________ of sins, according to the riches of his _________.

v. 8 --- he hath ____________ toward us in all _____________ and

________________.
v. 9 having made known unto us the __________ of his will

according to his ______ __________ which he purposed in himself.

Eph. 1:10
That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one
all things in Christ, both in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him

What better reasons should we need for being holy?

But wait there is more!

Eph. 1:11
--- also we have obtained an inheritance.

Eph. 1:12
That we should be to the praise of his glory.
Eph. 1:13
--- whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit
of promise.
Document Title Page 11

Eph. 1:14
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the
purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Earnest = a pledge – given in advance as security for the rest

The earnest given --- being sealed with the Spirit of promise, till our
inheritance is complete upon redemption, as purchased by Christ.

Being holy is going to be worth the wait!!!!

Warning of the unholy first:

Lev. 20:6-8
v. 6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after
wizards, to go a-whoring after them, I will even set my face against that
soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
v. 7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your
God.
v. 8 And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the Lord which sanctify
you.

One of the Commandments:

Ex. 20:8-10
v. 8 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
v. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
v. 10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: ----

Think about it:

Is it in our best interest to keep the commandments of the Lord if we
desire to be holy?

Can we be holy and not keep his commandments?

Can we be holy and go after such as familiar spirits, wizards and such?

To the best of your ability describe what it is to be holy!

holy = sacred (ceremonially or morally) a saint

Taken from Lev.20:7 ---be ye holy---
