When I was growing up, I used to hate studies, above all science.

For me there was no point

studying it when it had nothing interesting in it until I learnt about Wright brothers inspiration
behind making airplanes. It was pretty unconvincing for me at that time to imagine that air can
be so powerful to lift such a heavy machines off the ground. Little did I know then that one day I
would be explaining the mechanism behind it to my friends and family who would look at me
with similar amaement.
When I was in ninth standard I read about !ircraft "aintenance #ngineering course conducted
by institutes approved by $irector %eneral of &ivil !viation '$%&!(. Without giving it much
thinking, I decided then and there that I would do this course in future and satiate my hunger for
aircrafts.
)o after doing my *+
th
I ,oined this course in Indian Institute of !eronautical )cience 'II!)(,
-ew $elhi. )oon I realied that this course is not as it appears. I had gotten the misconception
that this is similar to !erospace #ngineering, only more practical oriented but reality was
different. .here was nothing engineering in this course. .here was no room for innovation, no
room for improvement and most importantly no room for experiment.
"y parents asked me leave this course and ,oin some other engineering college but by then
almost a year has passed and II.s had already put in place a mechanism of + attempts for /## so
I was stuck. $isappointed I carried on with this course.
In my moment of desperation, a senior of mine informed me about correspondence 0.#.
#1uivalent degree in !erospace #ngineering from !eronautical )ociety of India '!e)I( and that
after doing this I could pursue higher education in !erospace #ngineering from any college.
$elighted I ,oined !e)I in year +223 and from then on I dedicated my energy to actively doing
this course so that I could get "..ech at II.. .hat was the only possible solution. I am about to
sit for the last exam this /une.
.he only regret that I have during these 4 years is that I couldnt do enough of practical work to
make me understand my sub, ects more clearly. I was unable to get ,ob after the !"# course
despite having 0asic !"# License in /et #ngine. It was a big setback.
I did 4 months .raining on Lear/et aircraft after my !"# course. $uring this 4 months I along
with my instructors and colleagues did various maintenance work as well as snag rectifications
on the aircraft. !long with many predictable outcomes, we also witnessed a number of
unpredictable situations which might arise during aircraft operations. For instance during a
regular #ngine run when our instructors tried to operate flaps, it didn5t move. !fter much
investigation it was found that a bolt had somehow slipped away from its position and was
preventing flap from any kind of movement. .his was very small incident but could have proved
to be fatal to the aircraft in actual flight. In an aircraft operation, paying attention to details is
very important because one rarely gets second chances here. I also did 6 weeks of Workshop
.raining which is needed to go to )ection70 of !e)I. 0ut due to lack of chances and
opportunities I couldnt do more practical work and I would like to correct that once I get
admission in II..
I worked for seven years to get into II. to further my knowledge about !erospace Industry
because I have a passion for this sector. !lso this is most neglected branch of engineering in our
country. 8ur country relies heavily on foreign aircrafts to fulfill its ever growing demands. I
would like to reverse that by working towards development of !erospace in this country and to
do that I need 1uality education which I can get at II. 0ombay.
Learning from and working with great professors and fellow students will be biggest happiness
for me and I am ready to dedicate my life towards it.
