Jayant Bhandari, Senior Analyst, Anarcho Capital 16:00 AFTERNOON TEA 16:20 Exploration Premium: Prevalence & Implication After illustrating the enterprise value multiples of the (gold-focused) research constituents as the valuation backdrop and relying on market effciency (& continuous disclosure), the observation is made that capital markets could attribute, on average, an exploration premium to explorers and developers in the resource sectors. Exploration premium could perhaps refect the hope for further exploration success and minerals discovery, as refected by implied discount rates, linking prevailing market prices to the respective disclosed life-of-mine schedule(s). If there is underlying truth to this observation, a question becomes whether industry practice incorporates such an exploration premium in its decision- making practices when evaluating explorers and developers (and if not, exploration activity would be rendered chronically underfunded and erratic in intensity). If time permits, a brief comparison of selected peers will be examined and decomposition of the multiples illustrated, linking them through the resource conversion and reserve life ratios.
