JUSTIFICATION OF ACTIVITIES

PRE-READING
Firstly, A child's reading skills are important to their success in school and work. In
addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative activity for children, which opens
doors to all kinds of new worlds for them. Reading and writing are important ways
we use language to communicate. That is why we should apply a good and
interesting activities to the students so they get excited and make reading their
hobbies.
For the first activities that I will do during the pre-reading is the introduction of the
picture of animal, I will show them some picture of animal that is zebra, lion, ostrich
and so on, I will ask them a few question likes what its name, what its food, where do
its stay and have you seen this animal. Pre reading strategies allow students to think
about what they already know about a given topic and predict what they will read or
hear. Before students read any text, teachers can direct their attention to how a text
is organized, teach unfamiliar vocabulary or other concepts, search for the main
idea, and provide students with a purpose for reading or listening. Most importantly,
teachers can use pre reading strategies to increase students' interest in a text."
(Danny Brassell and Timothy Rasinski, Comprehension That Works. Shell Education,
2008). When the students gave their response to my question, I will ask a deep
further, for an example Aminah told she had seen a zebra, I will ask where she found
the zebra? This will make student have better understanding to what they are talking
about and built confident to herself. This activity also increase students interest
because they know what we are going to learn today that is animal. This activities
also will test their general knowledge and their experienced.
After I showed them pictures of animals, I will show them the words of the animal
that I make form manila cards. I will ask some students to read the words, for an
example the words lion and I will make them to pronounce it correctly. Then I will
ask some students to match the words with the correct pictures. The justification of
this activities is to make student learn about new vocabulary and also improve their
pronunciation.

WHILE-READING
The aim of teaching the while-reading actions is to improve readers' use of
comprehending actions while they are reading the text in depth. During while reading
stages, I will distribute my comprehension text about the facts of animal, why I chose
this topic is because animal is very close to human and every children like animals,
the text facts of animal also contain facts about endangered species, and I hope
when I teach them about this facts, they will learn to love the animal especially the
endangered one. After I distribute my comprehension texts, I will do shared reading,
which I will read the texts and students have to repeat after me, I also will make sure
if they are not saying the correct pronunciation, I will assist them to correct their
pronunciation.
After shared reading activity, I will give them task sheet 1 that entitled match the
animal according to what they eat. During this activity, I will distribute sheet tasks to
everybody, then I will give instruction what they are going to do. This task required
them to match the correct food for the animal which the information are in the text.
After students finish their tasks, I will discuss the correct answer with them. This task
will test their understanding about what they have learnt from their reading. The
justification of this activity is firstly, to improves their understanding skills and thinking
skill, they are enquires to think critically for the right match, for an example what will
be the food for an ostrich, some of them may do not know what ostrich likes to eat,
and by this activity he will refer to what he is reading. Secondly, they will enquires
new knowledge, they will find it is fun to learnt a little bit about animal facts and they
also will learn new knowledge.
The second activity for while reading is named what you know about animals. I
will makes them into four in a group, I will give each of the team a piece of manila
card and a marker pen. I will give the instruction, in the manila card, they have to
write name, features and the food for each animal. They may discuss with their team
members. After they finished, they have to present it in front of the class. The
justification for this activity is, firstly, to develop their cooperative skills, students will
have to interact and work together with their team members in order to finish the
task. Students also can develop their confident level when they were asked to
present what they have done with the manila card. This activity also will make them
to have a clear understanding to what they read just now.

POST-READING
Post-Reading activities encourage student to reflect upon what they have read.
The Taylor and Hancock post-reading stage consists of activities to assure long-term
retention of what they have read. For the post reading activity, I have made each one
of them, a task sheet that contains quiz. This quiz is about the true facts of animals.
They have to circle the true or false for the animal facts, if the fact is wrong, they
have to circle false on the task sheet, this quiz is based on reading material that I
have given, this quiz really testing what student understand about what they learnt
today. After they finished the quiz, I will discusses the correct answer with them. The
last task is correct the words, same as the quiz activity, I will discusses the correct
answer after they finished. The justification of this activity, firstly, is to get feedback
from the student about what they learnt today and what they understood about the
topic. Secondly, during this activity, student will have to think critically to solve the
quiz which the information are in the text. During this activity, students were
encouraged to do independently, they cannot have discussion with their peers but
teacher can assist them in person. This will test their understanding personally.
Finally these activities enable students to apply a more global understanding and
integrate information from the text.
