Foreword
Christians have a strong belief that Jesus is the Son of God (Allah) which offends our
Muslim brothers. According to their teaching having such a belief about God makes
someone a non-believer (infidel). It creates misunderstanding hatred and confrontation
between the believers of different religions. We would like to clarify misperceptions in
order to promote peace, harmony and brotherhood among different communities and
religions.
A misconception floated by Mirza Ghulam Ahmed Qadiani (1835-1908), founder of the
Ahmadiya Religious Movement, is as follows: Jesus and Isa are different persons. Since
the word Jesus is not in the Quran, it is, therefore, justified if people curse him because
this man was not the Isa mentioned in Quran. (Enjam-e-Atham page 8)
We are very thankful to the Almighty God that He led Rev. Maulana Haji Sultan
Mohammad Paul to clear up this misunderstanding by writing a book named Jesus and
Isa. He writes that the Hebrew name Yuhoosha which means the Liberator is
Yushua in Greek and I sa in Arabic and translated in English is Jesus.
I often use the words Sayadna I sa Al-Masih for Jesus Christ and some people may be
disturbed by this. I, therefore, would like to clarify the original meaning of the words
I sa and Jesus.
Muslim Commentator Alama Khazan writes, The word Isa came from Yehoshua
(Joshua) (Tafseer Khazan Vol. 3 page 496). Qazi Baidhawi, who wrote a well-known
commentary on the Holy Quran writes Isa is the Arabic translation of I shu. He
probably meant the Syrian word Yeshu. (Anwar al Tanzil Vol.1 page 96).
Qazi Baidhawi said, I sa is the Arabic form of the Hebrew Yesua Joshua. (Tafseer
Bezavee Vol.2 page 9). Rev. Sultan Muhammad Paul said, In my opinion the people of
Arabia faced difficulties to pronounce the word Yeshua. Whenever the Muslim
historians wrote Yeshua they added the letter e before and wrote Eyeshua but
after some time the Arabic linguists changed this word from Yeshua to Eesho. With
the passage of time the word Eesho changed into I sa (Christianity in Arabia page
263) The word Jesus comes from the Hebrew word HO-SH-U-A or YEHO-SHUA
which means Salvation. In the 5
th
century BC the name YESHOSHUA was shortened
to YESHUA. The name YESHUA was shortened twice in the 1
st
century, first to
YSHUA and again to YSHU. This was probably due to Greek influence. The Hebrew
letter
Y-Sh-YU-A were translated to Koine Greek which produced the name J ESOUS. This
is pronounced EE-AY-SOOS. Jesus himself used the Aramaic language in which the
word Jesus was originally pronounced EE-EHO or EE-SA which are very close
to the Arabic EASA or I SA. This word means God saves.
Christian scholars unanimously believe that Isa means redeemer used by Christian
Pastors and congregations in Arabia; later this Arabic name was used 25 times in the
Holy Quran. That is the reason why every Muslim uses the name Isa for Jesus.
Last but not the lease, I would like to draw your attention the face=t that both the Holy
Bible and Holy Quran claim that God has no physical sons or daughters, therefore, the
question is still there Why do the Christians call Jesus, the Son of God. I have written
this book in order to answer this question, promote peace, love, interfaith tolerance and
acceptance.

Chapter No: 1

Before Islam the people in Arabia were living in ignorance. They worshiped various
idols and offered them sacrifices; but at the same time they also worshipped the ONE
GOD. They asked idols for divine help to their problems. There were 360 idols in Khana
Kaaba (the sacred place in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where Muslims perform the pilgrimage
every year which is called Hajj. Every tribe had its own idol. Arabs also had a ritual to
make an idol of the person they respected. They believed that they pleased the idols by
making sacrifices to them and this resulted in blessings for them. There were numerous
idols but the followings were considered to be the post powerful:

ALLAT: The tribe of Qurayesh, as well as all the Arabs, wanted to venerate Allat. They
also used to name their children after her, calling hem Zayed-Allat and Taym Allat. Allat
which was unshaped while stone and people usually thought that Allah lived in it. It was
worshiped in a place called Sqeef, Taif. In olden times a temple called Zohra was erected
for this stone and people walked around it for pilgrimage and priests were appointed for
this service. Arabs had high esteem for this particular idol. That was the reason it was
called Um-ul-laeh, which means the mother of gods. The place where Allat was
worshiped was called Allat-Salhada and Allat-Habran. Allat was the most popular
idol among worshipers and a number of names were derived from Allat such as, Hab-u-
Allat, Teem-u-Allat and Raed-u-Allat etc.

MANAH: The most ancient of all these idols was Manah. The Arabs used to name their
children as Abd-Manah and Zayed-Manah. Manah was erected on the seashore in the
vicinity of Al-Mushallal in Qudayd between Madinah and Mecca. All Arabs including
the Aws and the Khazraj as well as the inhabitants of Madinah, Mecca and their
vicinities used to venerate Manah and offer her their sacrifices and offerings.

AL-UZZA: The tribe of Qurayesh wished to name their children as Abd-al-Uzza.
Furthermore al-Uzza was the greatest idol among this tribe. People traveled a long way to
offer her gifts and seek her favors through sacrifices. I bn Hazmtells about the location
these idols as follows: Al-Uzza was an idol of people who lived in Ghutfam; Allat was an
idol of Sqeef located in Taif; Munat was the idol of Khuzraj situated near Fadak.

Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a renowned Muslim leader and religious scholar of the sub-
continent writes: Manah was a huge idol fixed on a well dug by Abraham which was on
the right side of Khana Kaaba. Umro bin Lahi brought it from an island called Arze and
Abu Sufyan begged her help in the battle of Uhad.
Before Islam the people of Arabia thought that all three idols were physical sons and
daughters of Allah. That was reason that Quran rejected this doctrine and said,

And they assign daughter for Allah (An-Nahl 16:57).
Has then your Lord (O, Pagans) preferred for you sons and taken for Himself daughters
from the angels? Truly ye utter a most dreadful saying! (Al-Israel 17:40)

(4)

What? Has He taken daughters out of what He himself creates and granted you sons for
choice? (Az-Zukhruf 43:16)
Or has He only daughters and ye have sons? (At-Tur 52:39)
And the third goddess, Manat? For you the male and for Him the female. Behold such a
division, indeed, would be unfair. (An-Najum 53:20-22)

Dear reader, the Quran testifies that Christians are monotheistic and not infidels but
worship one Allah (Touheed).
Do not argue with the people of the Book (Christians and Jews) except in what is
better. And say we believe in what was sent down to u and to you and out God and
your God is the same, is one (Surat al-Ankabut 29:46)
Among the people of the Book is a nation which recited the verses of God during the
night and they worship God and believe in Him and in the Day of Judgment and they
hasten charity. (Surat Al-Imran 3:113-114)
For sure you will find the bitterest enemies of those who believe (Muslims) are the Jews
and those who do not believe in our God. An you will find the closest friends to believers
to be those who said, We are Nazarenes (Christians) as among them are the pastors and
monks and they are not proud (Surat Al-Maida 5:82)

Dear reader, the people who lived in Arabia before Islam denied the oneness of Allah
(Tauheed) and believed that the idols were Allahs physicals sons and daughters. Hence
they denied believing in the doctrine of ONE Allah whereas the Christians who lived in
Arabia did believe in the oneness of Allah (Tauheed).

Chapter No: 2

The Jews call Uzair a son of Allah (Al-Tauba 9:30)
Uzair (Ezra) was a priest (Levite) and scribe; a direct descendant of Aaron, through
Eleazar (the Book of Ezra 7:1-5). His father was Seraiah, the chief priest who was
executed a Riblah by the direct order of the Babylonian King, Nebuchadnezzar.
(2 Kings 25:18-21)
Before the Babylonian captivity the Jews did not have different sects but after the
captivity they were divided into different groups and one of them was called
Sadducees. Their beliefs were heretical because they did not believe in angels, the
resurrection and the Day of Judgment. They strongly believed that Uzair (Ezra the priest)
was the Son of Allah. This was the reason that the Jews excluded this sec from their
religion. How did this belief come about? Qazi Baidawi in his commentary writes that
during the Babylonian captivity of the Jews. There was no one who memorized the Law
after their return from captivity, so Allah raised Uzair (Ezra) from the dead. Baidawi
claims that the Jews (Sadducees) accepted him to be the Son of Allah.
Qazi Baidawi writes that Jews in a gathering at Medinah (a city in Arabia) heard the
words of Quran say, The Jews say Uzair is Son of Allah; no one among the Jew
protested or condemned this statement. It is thought to be believed that Uzair (Ezra the
priest) is the Son of Allah. But Alama Syed Suleman Nadvee wrote Uzair had been
used for Ezra, the priest who made the Torah (the five books of Moses the Pentateuch)
comes alive with the miracle he performed. The Sadducees left their country (Israel) and
settled in Arabia and propagated their belief that Uzair (Ezra the priest) was the Son of
God and called him Uzair I bn Allah (Ezra son of Allah).
Abn Hareer Tubra said that there were people including the Sadducees sect of the Jews
living in Madinah, Saudi Arabia who believed that Uzair was the Son of Allah.
Islamic scholars have mentioned that there was a community of Jews in Yemen who
considered Ezra as the son of Allah.

The Encyclopedia Judaic says, Another assumption based on the words of Ibn Hazm
was that the righteous who lived in Yemen believed that Uzair was indeed the Son of
Allah. According to other Muslim sources there were some Yemenite Jews who had been
converted to Islam and that Ezra was the Messiah. (Encyclopedia Judaic pp 1108)
Dear reader, you have now read this historical evidence about the heretical sect of the
Jews called Sadducees. Before Jesus Christ some Sadducees went to Yemen and
strongly believed that Uzair (Ezra the priest) was the Son of Allah. When we go through
the Old Testament we can see that Uzair (Ezra) was a priest and he never said, I am the
son of Allah. The Jewish scriptures teach that Uzair (Ezra) was not the Son of Allah but
was just a priest and servant of Almighty Allah.
When the Quran says, The Jews call Uzair the Son of Allah (Al-Tauba 9:30) it is
referring to the heretical sect of Sadducees and not the majority of Jews.

(6)
Chapter No: 3

The Jews call Uzair the son of Allah and the Christians call Christ the Son of Allah.
They say it from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to
say Allahs curse be on them; how they are deluded away from the truth!
(Al-Tauba 9:30)
Christian congregations were established in Arabia before the birth of Islam who
unfortunately had false beliefs and teachings that were not according to the Bible.
Therefore, they were excluded from the true Christian congregation due to these false
teachings.
They were not aware of the I njil (the Holy Gospel) and Jesus disciples but instead they
had some books which included the book of Proverbs from the Bible. They also had a
collection of false stories. They propagated these teachings and thus their false doctrines
(and some religious rituals) became popular among the people. Most of these
congregations did not believe in the four Gospels and the Book of Revelation, rather they
had faith in other, uninspired and unauthenticated books called the Apocrypha.
One of those sects was called Monotism. According to this group the message of God
was not completed in the Gospels of Jesus but believed that there were more revelations
from God. Another sect of Christians in the early church believed that God is one and
Jesus was not divine. They also believed that God was not in Jesus but when baptized he
was given the title Son of God.
There was another sect (movement) in Arabia known as the Artimonite who believed
that Jesus was an ordinary person but a bit higher than the other, being born of Virgin.
Nastoori was the sister sect of Artimonite who believed that Jesus was a human
being but was designated as the Son of God at the time of his baptism. Another sect
called Aryan believed that Jesus was a physical Son of God.
In the 12
th
century AD an Egyptian priest stared preaching that the Word of God (Jesus)
was born through the sexual act between God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Their
teachings were not different from Arabic pagan beliefs saying that God has physical sons
and daughters. They also believed that ALLAT, AL-UZZA and MANAH (idols) were
equal to god. They proved that the heretical sects of Christianity in Arabia believed false
teaching and Jesus was a physical Son of Allah ant at the time of his baptism he acquired
the title of Son.
The Holy Quran speaks against the Sadducee sect of the Jews, heretical Christian
congregations and polytheists of Arabs, Qulo Allah ahad, Allahu as-samad, lam yalid
wa lum yualad wa lam yakun kufuan ahad

Say, He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not nor is
he begotten; and there is none like unto Him. (Surah Al-Akhlas 112)
The Arabic word QUL in this Surah means say, teach and tell. If we look at the root word
Q-u-l it means to speak, inspire and point out. Islamic commentators agree that the
word QUL means that messages are to be passed on to the other people.

The second word AHAD means the only ONE; one without any partner. Therefore, the
Quran proved that God is one and He doesnt have any physical sons.

Chapter No: 4

A great majority of Muslims say that Christians believe that Mary is the wife of Allah.
To support their view point they say, If Allah does not have a wife how He could have a
son?

Dear reader, the idol worshipers of Arabia believed in many gods and thought that gods
have genders; some gods are male while the others are female and they produce offspring
(children). The Holy Quran speaks about their famous female goddess Lat-o-ghra-o-
Mutat.

The Holy Quran spoke to these idol worshipers who thought that angels were sons and
daughters of Allah and was proud to worship a male god rather than a female. In fact,
these ignorant people believed that just as humans have sexual desire so does Allah
which is obviously incorrect.

One day some people from the Sadducees sect came to Sayidna I sa al-Masih (Jesus)
testing Him by asking a question; There was a man who died without leaving any
children; after his death one of his brothers married her and he also died with leaving any
children. Five more brothers also married that woman and all of them died without
children. Finally the woman died. In the resurrection whose wife will she be? Isa
replied, There will be no marriage in heaven rather everyone will be like the angels.
This proves that the heavenly creatures do not have sexual desire.
(Gospel of St. Matthew 22:23-32)

Dear reader, let us see what the Holy Bible says about the Creator, Almighty God. God
is Spirit. The Quran says, Allah is Light. Do Light and Spirit possess a body? Two
bodies are required to perform sexual intercourse.

Allah must have a body to have a son by Mary through intercourse. The teachings of the
Holy Books by prophets also tell us that God is light. Sayidna I sa Al Masih (Jesus)
Himself said to his disciples that a spirit has no flesh and bones. The Holy Quran clearly
states that Allah has no wife. So how could He have children? All this proves that
Allah does not have any kind of sexual attribution.

Chapter No: 5

The text of Surah Almaida verse 166. Muslim scholar Maulana Mohammad Ali
describes this verse, Everything about Mary in the Holy Quran has its roots in Roman
Catholicism. If the Catholics had not started worshiping Mary as the Mother of God,
perhaps they would be different.

George Salewrites: The notion of the divinity of Virgin Mary was also believed by
come at the Council of Nice. They said that there were two gods besides the Father, in
other words Christ and the Virgin Mary and were thence named Maria mites.

Furthermore, Edward Gibbon in his book writes, The History of the Decline and Fall
of the Roman Empire The Christians of the seventh century had insensibly relapsed
into a semblance of the paganism; their public and private vows were addressed to the
relics and images that disgraced the temples of the East; the throne of the Almighty was
darkened b the clouds of martyrs, saints, objects of popular veneration and the
Collyridian heretics, who flourished in the fruitful soil of Arabia blessed the Virgin Mary
with the name and honors of a goddess.

According to the history of Arabia the people of the city of Habash were Christians who
corrupted the teachings of the Holy Bible. As a result they were labeled as heretics by the
Arabs. People of Habash gave great respect to Mary and consider her equal to Allah.

The Bishop of Slamus, Apee Fynees, described a strange custom that came to Arabia
from Therekia and Scacia. He says that some women cooked small loaves of bread called
Qalroos (Greek word) in honor of Mary who were offered in the name of Mother of God.
The Bishop strongly condemned this custom.

Dr. Brown writes in his book that the word Rooha of Saurian language used for spirit
is feminine in gender. Saurian speaking people thought that the Holy Spirit was a female,
being the reason behind their heresy. Some heretic Christians wrote in the Apocrypha the
following sentence, My mother, the Holy Spirit, held me by one of my hairs and took
me to the big mountain called Suboor. It proves that Christians of Habash thought the
Holy Spirit to be a female. Perhaps this concept developed into the belief that Mary is the
mother of God. It is obvious that this is not a belief but rather emerged from the
congregation in Habash. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) clearly condemned this
misperception and told people that Mary was a pious and graceful woman but not God.
Christians believe that the same truth.

Chapter No: 6

Early in history all nations worshiped idols but the Jews, as given in Torah, were the only
people who worshiped one God and clearly guided to worship one God. Hear, O Israel,
the Lord our God, the Lord is ONE. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your strength. (Deut 6:4-5)

Shema Yisrael (Hear O Israel) are the first words of the section of Torah the
Pentateuch (first five books of Prophet Moses) used as a centerpiece of all Jewish
morning and evening prayers and closely echoes the monotheistic message of Judaism, to
be most important prayer in Judaism and its recitation twice a day is a Mitzvah (religious
commandments). The theme of this prayer is that people must love one true God withal
their heart, soul and might; and are rewarded by practicing this. It also includes waiting
that failing to heed the commandments of God we challenge His wrath. Originally the
shema consisted only of the one verse, Deuteronomy 6:4 (see Talmud Sukkot 42a and
Berachot 13b). Later on the Jews added more verses from the Torah to the shema, Deut.
6:5-9, 11:13-21 and Numbers 15:37-41. All these passages express the central issues of
Jewish belief.

The life endeavor of the Jews is to affect a true expression of Gods oneness. The
Hebrew word echad means oneness and harmony. This oneness does not negate
plurality but the oneness that expresses a plurality in unity. In Deut 6:4, the Hebrew word
echad is used for one whereas in the word Ahad is used in Quran. Qul hu Allaho
AHAD which literally means, Say Allah is one. (Surah Al-Akhlas)

The foundation of Jewish religion is based on the theology that god is one (echad). In the
Talmud (the second most important book after Torah for Jews) Yasua 40:6 it reads Rabi
Abahoo said, The king who is flesh and blood (human) has a father and brother but God
says, I am not like him. I am Alpha; I have no father, I am Omega, I have no son. There
is no God but Me. I have no brother. The Hebrew Talmud and Surah Akhlas of the Hoy
Quran agree about oneness of God. In the Old Testament the oneness of God is
emphasized for example I am the Lord and there is no other beside me; there is no God.
(Isaiah 45:5) Remember the former things long past, for I am God and there is no other;
I am God and there is no one like me. (Isaiah 46:9) You shall have no other gods
before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol or any likeness of what is in heaven
above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. (Exodus 20:3-4)

This is the reason that the Jews have no grounds for belief in more than one God. To
claim that some other person possesses the characteristics of God makes one liable for
punishment.

(10)
Chapter No: 7

The term son in the Old Testament expresses an intimate relationship with someone or
something. Basically it indicates origin but is also used to express a close association
with other persons and things. Sometimes characteristics and qualities are personified and
regarded as having sons. In other words people possessing the same characteristics are
regarded as having sons. The other angle of the term son in the Bible reflects the versatile
and imaginative. It is difficult to translate the Hebrew translation with appropriate words
or terms. A complete list of the various uses of the tern son in he Bible is beyond the
scope of this book:
Sons of the prophets (a company of prophets) 1 Kings 20:35
Sons of his quiver (Literal Hebrew for arrows) Lamentations 3:13
The sons of Judah and Jerusalem Joel 3:6
Sons of fresh oil (literal Hebrew for anointed ones Zechariah 4:14
God is the father of those He creates Malachi 2:10
Angels are sons of God Job 1:6
The Jews were familiar to the concept of the son of God. This can be found in the Old
Testament and also in other Jewish writings. God called the Jews nation His son (Ibn-e-
Waheed). God was the Father of the Hews and this nation was His son. This was because
God through His grace had chosen them from all the nations of the world. Therefore, this
nation played a vital role in the history of man. God was creator of all other nations but
He was not their father not were these nations called sons of God. He is the Creator, King
and Father of only the chosen nation of Israel. But this does not mean that God is the
father of all Jews individually. In the Old Testament there are two occasions when God
called the king of Israel his son. It was because the king was the head and also the
representative of the nation. That is the reason that in the Old Testament in the whole
nation of Israel, its leaders and its kings were called sons of God. Here are a few
examples:
Israel is my son, my first-born Exodus 4:22
King Solomon would be Gods son 2 Samuel 7:14
So we can see that the wordson in the Old Testament does not always have a literal
meaning but also used symbolically. In the New Testament the word son is also used
symbolically:
Sons of the bridal chamber
(Literal Greek for attendant s of the bridegroom) Matthew 9:15
Your sons which means your people Matthew 12:27
A son of peace (Literal Greek for a man of peace) Luke 10:6
The sons of this age which means the people of this world Luke 16:8
The sons of lights which means the believers Luke 16:8
The sons of destruction (one destined for destruction) John 17:12
Sons of the family of Abraham (Abrahams descendants) Acts 13:26
Those who believe they are children of Abraham Galatians 3:7
Sons of disobedient (those who are disobedient) Ephesians 2:2
The above are only a few of the many uses of the term son(s) in the New Testament. I
have not included literal (common) examples of this word.

(11)
Chapter No: 8

The people of the book (Christians) to this day accept and use the Jewish scriptures (Old
Testament) and therefore, agree that God is one. In the New Testament (I njil) the
doctrine of the oneness of God is also clear. Jesus said, Hear, O, Israel, The Lord your
God is one Lord (Mark 12:29) It is also mentioned in other passages such as these:

Yet for us there is but one God 1 Corinthians 8:6
One God and father of all who is over all in all, through all Ephesians 4:6

Christians, like Muslims, do also believe that God is beyond sexual attributes and
therefore, never gave birth to anyone. Christians do not believe in three gods but rather
they have a firm belief in ONE GOD and no one can share His attributes. In both the Old
and New Testaments there is no concept of someone being a physical son of God.

(12)
Chapter No: 9

The Christian belief of the Son of God is beyond any physical relation. According to the
Gospel and Holy Quran Allah created the universe with his work (kun). In the Holy
Quran it writes, It is He who created the heavens and the earth in truth (Surah 6:73).
He hath created the heaven and the earth with truth (Surah 16:3).

Dear reader, now you must be thinking Who or what is truth? Again the Holy Quran
gives a clear answer, Such was Jesus the son of Mary, a statement of the truth (Surah
19:34). The Holy Quran teaches that Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth
and this truth is the son of Mary, Sayyadna I sa Al-Masih. Jesus said in the Holy
Gospel, I am the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).

According to the Hoy Gospel God created this universe through His word. In the
beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in
the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him and apart from Him nothing
came into being that has come into being. (John1:1-3)
The Holy Quran teaches that Allah had chosen a highly respected woman who was
regarded as the most saint, pious, chaste and virtuous ever. In the Holy Quran no other
woman is given more attention than Mary. In fact, the nineteenth sura of the Quran is
named after her and is about her life. Of the Qurans 114 sura, she (Mary) is the only one
among eight people who have a sura named after them.

The Holy Quran writes that one day the angel Gabriel came to Mary and asked her,
Where does this food come from? She said, It is from Allah, Surah 3:37. Later he
told her, O, Mary, Lo Allah hath chosen thee and made thee pure and hath preferred thee
above (all) the women of creation, (Verse 42). In Surah Mariam it says, Then we sent
unto her our spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a perfect man. She said, Lo! I
seek refuge in the Beneficent One from you if you are God fearing. He said, I am only
a messenger of your Lord that I may bestow on you a faultless son. She said, how can I
have a son when no mortal has touched me, neither have I been unchaste? He said, So it
will be, your Lord says, It is easy for me. And that we may make of him a revelation for
mankind and a mercy for us, and it is an ordained thing (verses 17-21).

The following titles are found in the Quran for the son of Mary:
Salam Man of Peace 19:33
Rasul Apostle 2:253, 3:49
Rooh Spirit of Allah 2:87
Kalamah Word of Allah 4:171
Mithal an example 43:57, 43:59
Hikmah Wisdom 43:63
Wajihan Highly honored in this world and hereafter 3:45
Mithal al Adam like Adam 3:59
Al-Masih Messiah / Christ 3:45
Rooh Allah Spirit of Allah became flesh 19:17
(13)

Nabi Prophet 2:136
Ayah Mercy from Allah to mankind 19:21
Ibn Maryam Son of Mary 3:45
Zakkiyun the faultless, holy and perfect 19:19
ELim knowledge of the hour 43:61
Shahid witness on resurrection day 4:169
Witness over the people 5:117
God created Adam from soil and breathed into Adam and he became alive. Adam was put
to sleep and God removed one of his ribs, filled in the space with flesh and made Eve
from that rib. Then Eve was brought to Adam and he said, This is now bone of my
bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of
man, (Genesis 2:23). And god created man in His own image, in the image of God He
created them. And God blessed them and God said to them, be fruitful and multiply and
fill the earth. Genesis 1:27. God intended that man would reproduce through sexual
intercourse and so God made the reproduction very sacred. Therefore, all human beings,
including prophets, messengers and saints were born through sexual interaction. So we
see that God created the first tow humans and from them all other humans have been born
through sexual reproduction.

Creation:
Soil + breath = Adam
Rib + flesh = Eve
Birth:
Man + Woman + Sexual reproduction = Mankind

Starting from Adam all throughout history everyone is the result of sexual intercourse,
with an exception of only one person. This is called Virgin Birth. God sent His angel
Gabriel to Mary and he told her that she would have a son, even though she was a virgin.
God was about to bring forth a child without sexual reproduction. The Holy Bible and the
Holy Quran agree that Jesus (I sa) was born without a father. This way He was like
Adam. It also means that he, like Adam, came from something physical, DUST Surah
3 says, Lo! The likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him
out of dust. And then He said unto him, Be! (kun) and it came into being. (Surah
3:59) So Mary gave birth to a son after nine months without any sexual interaction.

According to Sahih Bukhari Muhammad (pbuh) said,No child of Adam is born without
a demon touching him at the moment of birth. The one whom the demon touches gives
out a cry. Thats why the children cry. They have no exception but Mary and her son.

Dear reader, it is well-known that intercourse is the only way to reproduction. When the
time came for the birth of Jesus, God did something entirely opposite: Mary + Word
and Spirit of Allah = Sayadina I sa Al-Masih (Jesus Christ).

We also read in Holy Quran that the angel said to Mary, Allah gives you glad tidings of
a word from Him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary. (Surah3:45)
Jesus is also called Allahs WORD in Surah 4:171. Therefore, the son of Mary is
called the Word of Allah.

(14)

The Gospel of Saint John describes the word of Allah. In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and
dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only one and only one from the
father, full of grace and truth. (Gospel of St. John 1:1-3, 14)

Dear reader, according to the Gospel, the son of Mary is called Word of God and
according to the Holy Quran the son of Mary is called a Word from Allah. Now I ask
you a question. What is the difference between the a word from Allah and the Word
of God? I think that you can not see any difference.

The word of Allah became flesh through Mary and was called Kalmat-ul-Allah, the
Word of Allah. (surah 4:171) This word has always existed, even before the creation of
the universe. Jesus is the Word of Allah not because he was born of a woman but because
for all eternity he has been the word of Allah. At one point in history he was born and
took on human flesh and became Jesus (Isa) the son of Mary. Every prophet has been a
messenger of Allah but only Jesus was the Word of Allah. All other prophets began their
messages from Allah by saying,Thus says the Lord, but Jesus never said so. He always
said,Truly, truly I say to you, and proclaimed his message. He did not have the need to
say, Thus says the Lord because He was the Word of God and He brought Gods
message directly to his listener.

Dear reader, I have stated above that Allah created the universe through his Word and
Truth. It is simple to understand that a person and his word cannot be separated.
Moreover, a word can not exist without its creator. So now we know that the Word
(Kalmah) is Jesus and the speaker of this Word is Allah (Mutkalam). He sent his word
to Mary and was born. His name was Jesus, the Word of Allah (kalmat-ul-Allah).

We must realize that God is very different from man and, therefore, forced to use human
terminology to describe Him. If His explanations were not clear they would lead to
confusion and false doctrine. The word SON means To come forth and this is
exactly what Jesus said, I come forth from the Father (God) and have come into the
world. (John 16:28) Note that in this verse Jesus used the word Father. Jesus often
spoke of God as His Father and this relationship is very special. Just as a speaker and his
word cannot be separated so a father and his son. This relation did not come about by
intercourse. The Holy Bible says that Jesus is the Son of God and Holy Quran says that
Sayyadina Isa Al Masih is Kalmat-ul-Allah; (Jesus Christ) therefore, both mean the same
thing.

The word son (ibn) in Arabic, Hebrew and Aramaic languages carries deep meanings.
Following are some examples of the Arabic use of this word; some of these are in the
Holy Quran:

Ibn-ul-Badar son of moon
Ibn-ul-waqt son of time (punctual)
Ibn-e-sabeel son of path (the passenger
Ibn-e-suhab son of cloud (rain)
Ibn-e-zaka son of Sun

The word father (abu) in Arabic has symbolic meaning as well:
Abu-ul-Ambia Father of prophets title of Adam who is the father of all prophets
Abu-ul-Bashar Father of humans Adam

The words Ab (Father), I bn (Son) and Um(Mother) in Quran have been used for various
meaning and their literal and physical meanings. The Holy Quran says, Allah has no
assigned unto any man two hearts in his body not has He made your wives whom you
declare to be your mothers nor has He made those whom you claim your sons. This is but
a saying of your mouths. (The Clans 33:4)

Um-ul-Momneen mother of believers
The Holy Quran says, The prophet is closer to the believers than themselves and his
wives are (as) their mothers. (The Clans 33:6) According to the Holy Quran the wives
of Prophet Muhammad are mothers of all believers being only a symbolic and not a
physical relation.

Some Sufis speak of God as Father and humanity as Gods children. Other Muslims
might question this terminology preferring to use servants instead of children. Still
the fact remains that God can be seen as a Father and humanity as His children. It is
neither a physical relation nor any sexual connotation. Therefore, it is an idea that some
Muslims would accept.

Abu Lahab (Father of Fire). According to Islam this mans full name was abd-al-Uzza
ibn Abdul Matalib and he was called Abu Lahab (father of fire). Abu Lahab was a
disbeliever during the time of Prophet Muhammad who was known for his arrogance in
insolence. Surah number 111 informs us that He will be plunged in flaming fire
(111:3) Abu Lahab means father of fire. It is only a symbolic title for Abd-ul-Uzza
ibn Abdul Matalib. As a bitter enemy of the prophet and Islam. He, therefore, is
figuratively considered to be the father of fire (hell).

(16)
Abu Bakar (father of goats), his real name was Abdul Kaaba but his nickname Abu
Bakar because during his youth he enjoyed playing with newly born goats and camels.
He was so familiar by this name that people did not know his real name. Abu Haraira
(father of cats) was the nickname given to him because he loved to play with a little cat
and carried her in his arms. The holy prophet called him by his nickname and people did
not know his real name.

Christians call Holy Bible Um-ul-kutub (mother of books) whereas Muslims call Quran
as Um-ul-kutub (mother of books).

Ibn-e-shaitan (son of devil) a person committing evil deeds is called the son of devil.
Ibn Allah (Son of god) the title has been used for Jesus in the New Testament. Many
people object to this and say that there are number of persons who were called sons of
God in the Holy Books. Similarly Jesus is called the SON OF GOD.

Remember the relationship of God with Jesus in the New Testament (I njil) has shown
that a special and different. This was not used for any other person. In Greek the word
monogenesis (meaning ONLY) is used to describe the son-ship of Jesus. The word means
only. It reveals the nature of Jesus. Another word in the Greek Gospel is logos. It has
different meanings depending on the use in verse. Some of its meaning include what
someone says, statement, question, proclamation, instruction and teaching etc. Many
times it simply means word and this could be a revelation from and God and was also
used for revelations from Jesus and his messengers.

In the Gospel of St. John it takes a special meaning, the independent, personified
Word (of God). Her we find that the Word took on human form in the person of Jesus.
In the beginning was the logos and the logos was with God. And the logos became
flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the monogeneses of
the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14) It is crystal clear that the relationship
between Jesus and God involves Him and His Word. A persons word cannot be
separated from his personality. The Greek word logos when applied to Jesus speak of
Gods Word and His revelations embodied in man.

Some agree that Jesus is a son of God but at the same time they claim that all pious
people are the sons of God. The New Testament says, For you are all sons of God
through faith in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26) It is the only way that any human can be
called the son of God. The holy books clearly describe that the son-ship of Jesus is totally
different from the son-ship of pious believers. According to the Gospel (I njil) Jesus is the
only Begotten Son. It defines the relationship between God and Jesus.

Dear reader, once Jesus asked His disciples, Who do you say that I am? Peter
answered,You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. And what did Jesus say to
Peter? Blessed are you, Simon Barjona (Peter) because flesh and blood did not reveal
this to you but my father who is in heaven. (Matthew 16:16-17) If the meaning of Son
of God only meant that Jesus was a holy person then why did Jesus say that Peters
answer was a special and spiritual revelation from God Himself?
Jew wanted to kill Jesus because he claimed that He called God his Father and claimed
that He came from God. If the term son of God only meant that He was a holy and
pious person there would have been no ground to kill Jesus. This proves that the term Ibn
Allah (Son of God) used for Jesus is totally different from the word son used for pious
people.

Let us see how Muslim scholars see the concept of the son of God. Sir Syed Mir Ali
Justice writes in his book, The heavenly father called his disobedient children
through his messenger Muhammad. Here we see that Sir Syed has used the word
Father for God and used the word Children for human beings. Can we say that Sir
Syed really means that God has love for His creation and by his grace he wants them to
com to him? This meaning is conveyed when we speak of human fathers who love their
children. Sir Syed has expressed the grace and love of God which is in fact a
foundational doctrine of Christianity.

Abu Bakar Shibly writes in his book that a Sufi (cleric) is a child in the lap of God.
Shiblys statement gives the sense that God (Allah) is the father of a Sufi (cleric) while a
Sufi is a son of God. This term reflects the relation between a Sufi and God but it has
been stolen from the Gospel of St. John where we read, No one has seen God at any
time; the one and only (monogeneses) who is at the side of the Father has revealed him.
(John 1:18) This reveals a very special relationship between Jesus and God.

Here are some examples from Muslim poets who have expressed the concept of son-
ship in their poetry.

Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali (a renowned Muslim scholar and poet writes, The first
lesson of the book (Quran) is that the total creation of the world is the family of God.

Another Muslim poet expresses his love for Muhammad in the following verse:
I wish to sleep reciting the name of Muhammad, say the Friend of Allah is Allah. He
shows and considers that God and Muhammad are equal.

Here is another poet who expresses belief that God came from heaven in the form of
Muhammad. He, who lived in heaven as God, came down to earth and became
Muhammad.

Another poet wrote: O, Muhammad, how can I express my feelings, excitements and
pleasure when I look upon you, you look like Muhammad but you are God inside.

Another Muslim poet felt the same, If someone wishes to see God, without any doubt
he may see God in Muhammad.

Chapter No: 13

Jesus used the words, Son of God for Himself. He said, I and my Father are one.
(John 10:30) He who has seen me has seen the Father. (John 14:9)

God proclaimed Jesus as His Son
Jesus went to be baptized by the prophet John. When He came up out of the water he saw
the heaven opening and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him. A voice from heaven
said, You are my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. (Mark 1:11)

At another occasion Jesus was on a mountain with three of His disciples. A cloud
overshadowed them and a voice came out of the cloud saying, This is my beloved son,
listen to Him. (Mark 9:7)

The Angel Gabriel
The angel Gabriel came to Mary and said, Greetings, you are highly favored! The Lord
is with you. Mary was greatly disturbed at his words and wondered what kind of
greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found
favor with God. You will be with a child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him
name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the son of the Most High God. How will
this be, Mary asked the angel, Since I am a virgin? the angel answered, The Hold
Spirit will come upon you and the power of God will overshadow you. So the Holy one
to be born will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:26-35)

The Disciples called Jesus, Son of God
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked his disciples, who do
people say the Son of Man is? the replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah;
and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. But what about you? he asked. Who
do you say I am? Simon Peter answered, You are the Christ, the son of the Living
God. Jesus replied, Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to
you man, but by my Father in heaven. (Matthew 16:13-17)

At another time Nathaniel declared, Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the Kind of
Israel. (John 1:49) Quoting from this verse, Jesus did many other miraculous signs in
the presence of His disciples which are not recorded in this book. But these are written
that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you
may have life in his name. (John 20:30)

The Apostle Paul and the Son of God
Paul was one of the worst enemies of Christianity before he embraced Jesus. He would
arrest people who were embracing Jesus as Messiah and believed in Him. On the way to
the city of Damascus Jesus appeared to him and he was totally changed. He began to
proclaim that Jesus is the Son of God. People were astonished to hear such words coming
from a person who had so ardently persecuted Christians. (Acts of the Apostles 9: 1-22)

The Testimony of Martha
Martha was the sister of Lazarus, a friend of Jesus Christ. Jesus would stay at their house
whenever He visited Bethany. One day Lazarus died and after four days Jesus went to
their village. The Jews believed that the soul of a dead person could return until the third
day and then it moved to heaven (on the fourth day) and remained there until the Day of
Judgment. Jesus this belief and deliberately delayed and came on the fourth day. Martha
said to Him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know
even now God will give you whatever you ask. Jesus said to her, You brother will rise
again. Martha answered, I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live even
though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe
this? Yes, Lord, she told Him. I believe that you are the Christ, the son of God who
was to come into the world. (John 11:1-27)

The Testimony of Roman Centurion
Jesus was on the cross and darkness came over the whole land by the ninth hour, for the
sun stopped shining. With a loud cry Jesus breathed his last breath. The centurion of the
temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth quaked and the rocks were split.
When the Roman centurion saw all that happened and the way in which Jesus had died,
said, Surely this man was the son of God. (Matthew 27:45-54)

Evil Spirits called Jesus the Son of God
Once Jesus was passing through a graveyard of Gadarenes (which was across Galilee)
they met a demon-possessed man from a town. When he saw Jesus he cried out and fell at
His feet, shouting at the top of his voice, What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the
Most High God. I beg you, dont torture me! (Luke 8:26-28)

Dear reader, the words I bn Allah (Son of God), Kalmaat-ul llah (Word of God), and
Rooh Allah (Spirit of God) have the same meaning. In the Gospels instead of the word of
God (Kalmat-ullah) and Spirit of God (Rooh Allah) the words Son of God have been
used, meaning drawn out of.

The decree of the Gospel is that all are sinful and lack of the necessary glory that God
demands (Romans 3:23) There is no way that we can measure up to Gods standards
because He requires a perfect and sinless life. The Gospel shows that sin has created a
wall between God and man. This wall prevents man from reaching God. The Bible says,
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whosoever believes
in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) He gave his perfect and
sinless life in exchange for our sinful lives so that we might be freed and not face
judgment and hell. The next verse says For God did not send His Son into the world to
condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:17) In
another passage it says, I n this the love of God was manifested towards us, in that God
has sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. In this is
love, not that we love God but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice for our
sins. (1 John 4:9-10)

One of the most beautiful promises in the gospel is: He who believes in the son has
eternal life but he who does not believe in the son will not see life but the wrath of God
abides on him. (John 3:36) Note the simple clarity of this passage. And this is the
(21)

witness that God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son
has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1John 5:11-12)

Dear reader, believing that Jesus is the son of god is not blasphemous but rather it is the
way to eternal life! He says, Look I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my
voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him and he with Me.
(Revelation 3:20)

If you want Jesus in your life you can do this by prayer. Invite Him to come in and
become the centre of your life so that you may have salvation from your sins and receive
eternal life. A-MEN
