introduction

Hi, and welcome to AH Racing the home of Alex Hutchinson

and his motorcycle road racing team.

From this presentation I hope to provide you with an

understanding of how successful a partnership could be and
the benefits offered from association. Alex left school and
started as an apprentice at BAE SYSTEMS Brough some
nineteeen years ago commuting on a 50cc motorbike. At
nineteen years of age he decided it would be a good idea to
start racing motorbikes!

Now a New Business Integrator and 35 years of age, he is still

racing at Britain’s and Europe’s leading circuits and winning
races. Alex first competed in the Superteen series, which was
held at the British Superbike meetings. This series has a wide
fan base, therefore spectators were plentiful and you become
a familiar face around the paddock. Following a time in
Supersport 600, he spent eight years competing in the British
250cc Championship with some very good results. He attributes
his engineering training at BAE Brough as a format for his
understanding of the intricacies of setting up a motorcycle as
each circuit requires different sprockets, suspension etc.

2007
After contemplating retirement from the sport in 2006, he was approached
by Mick and Gary Smith, brothers from Harlow, asking if he would ride their
Simoto 450 in the British Supermono Championship. This proved a good
partnership with Alex finishing 2nd in the championship.However the same
Supemono seemed to be doomed in 2007 with each race. Brands Hatch
the first race of the season, Alex had an impressive lead when the bike
failed. This set the precedent for the rest of the season. Yet at Mallory Park,
the penultimate meeting, he qualified on pole and went on to win the race
by 20 seconds.The winning streak continued at Oliver’s Mount Road
Races in Scarborough. A win in the Supermono/125 meant that he broke
his own lap record outracing the likes of John McGuiness, Ian Lougher and
Chris Palmer (all winners at the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT).
Whilst at Scarborough he also rode a Kawasaki owned by John Bird of
MotoSP, in the 2007 Gold Cup National 400 managing to take 2nd place.
This is quite impressive racing as it was only Alex’s third visit to Oliver’s
Mount.Earlier in the year he travelled to Northern Ireland to compete in the
International North West 200 on the Kawasaki 400 finishing 6th with Robert
Dunlop 4th. Then is was off to Aberdare Road Races in Wales riding the
Supermono and the Kawasaki, securing good results with a number of top
three finishes.
The last outing of the year was on the Supermono at Cadwell Park on the
6/7th October where Alex managed to qualify once again in Pole Position.
He had to retire from the first race whilst battling for the lead due to a
broken gear linkage but manged to finish 3rd in the second race ending
the year on the podium.
2008
For 2008 Alex rode for Dave Pearce of Tigcraft on a Tigcraft KTM
Supermono in the British Supermono Championship. The bike was brand
new and first time out he managed 2nd position at the British Superbike
meeting at Snetterton. A few mechanical woes during the season meant he
had to settle for 2nd in the championship but this was still a great result.
In addition to the Supermono Championship Alex also competed in the
Scarborough and Aberdare road races setting a new lap record at
Scarboroughand gaining more wins and podium positions.Alex also
competed at the North West 200 but this was a meeting to forget when
problems with the Honda RS250 during qualifying proved impossible to
resolve and after qualifying the ZXR in 6th on the grid, the team hopeful of
a podium position but unfortunately he was knocked off by a fallen rider at
York corner on the first lap.

2009
For 2009 Alex was due to ride the Tigcraft KTM Supermono again in the
British Supermono Chamionship but at the 11th hour the sponsor pulled
out leaving him without a ride. John Bird of MotoSP stepped in and
allowed Alex to use the Kawasaki ZXR400 in the ThundersportGB Junior
Powerbike races as well as selected road races. Despite missing some
11 races of the championship he still managed 3rd in the championship
just missing out on 2nd by 6 points with many wins and never finishing off
the podium.
2010 ??
For 2010 Alex has once again been asked to ride the newly built
Kawasaki ZXR440 in the ThundersportGB GP2 Championship and a
Simoto Honda 450 in the British Supermono Championship. In addition
to these two championships Alex will also be riding a Honda RS250 at
the International North West 200 and Scarborough Cock o’ North and
Gold Cup events.

Also during 2009 Alex competed at the Olivers Mount Gold Cup at
Scarborough on a Honda RS250, qualifying on the front row and finishing
5th in both races, he also managed another podium on the ZXR.

Somehow Alex also manages to find the time to instruct at the Ron Haslam
Race School at Donington Park and also has his Motorcycle Instructors
Certificate from the Auto Cycle Union.
Series information

We are currently looking at competing in the British Supermono

Championship aboard a Simoto Honda 450 supplied by Mick and Gary
Smith. Supermono racing is a interesting and unique class of motorcycle
road racing. It is one of the purest forms of racing and the simplest rules.
The essence of the rules are that the bike should be powered by a single
cylinder 4-stroke engine and that the bike should weigh more than 95kg.
That’s it! This allows an enormous amount of scope and flexibility with
regard to bike design. It is therefore the perfect class for someone with
engineering tendencies, or those keen to try new and innovative

In addition to the Supermono class we will also be competing in the GP2

class aboard a Kawasaki ZXR440 supplied by John Bird of MotoSP. This
class is essentially for machines of up to 450cc (4 cylinder), 550cc
(3 cylinder), 650cc (2 cyclinder) and 800c (2 cylinder air-cooled) and
therefore creates a wide and varied class.

Both of these series will be run by ThundersportGB

(www.thundersportGB.com) in 2010 and will take place at circuits all over
the UK.

Televised Events - these series are to be televised on MotorsTV on a 2

hour programme a fortnight after each meeting.

As well the GP2 and Supermono Series we will also be competing at the
International North West 200 (www.northwest200.org) shown on the BBC,
the Scarborough, Olivers Mount Gold Cup and Cock o' North meetings
and the Aberdare Park Road Races (www.aberdare-park-road-races.co.uk)
aboard a Honda RS250 and a Kawasaki ER6. These in themselves are
very big meetings with the North West 200 and Gold Cup attracting
125,000 and 52,000 spectators respectively.
