CONCRETE FRAME DESIGN BS 8110-97
Technical Note
General and Notation
The BS 8110-97 series of Technical Notes describes in detail the various as-
pects of the concrete design procedure that is used by this program when the
user selects the British limit state design code BS 8110-97 (BSI 1998). The
various notations used in this series are listed herein. When the user selects
the BS 8110-97 code, the program designs concrete frames in accordance
with the 1997 BS 8110 code as amended in Issue 2, September 1998.
The details of the design for BS 8110-97 are described in Technical Notes
Design Load Combinations Concrete Frame Design BS 8110-97, Design
Strength Concrete Frame Design BS 8110-97, Column Design Concrete Frame
Design BS 8110-97, and Beam Design Concrete Frame Design BS 8110-97.
The program uses preferences and overwrites, which are described in Techni-
cal Notes Preferences Concrete Frame Design BS 8110-97 and Overwrites
Concrete Frame Design BS 8110-97.
English as well as SI and MKS metric units can be used for input. The code is
based on Newton-Millimeter-Second units. For simplicity, all equations and
descriptions presented in this series of Technical Notes correspond to New-
ton-Millimeter-Second units unless otherwise noted.
