The five-year Agribusiness Project is funded by USAID and is being implemented by Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF). The
goal of Project is to support improved conditions for broad-based economic growth, create employment opportunities
and contribute to poverty alleviation through increase in competitiveness of horticulture and livestock value chains. The
Project activities are organized into two components i.e. (i) on-going technical and capacity building assistance and (ii) a
cost-sharing grants program, offering a wide range of grant products to all players within the targeted value chains.


My roles at The Agribusiness Project as Value Chain Lead-Citrus are as follows:

Designed and implemented the citrus value chain strategy and activities by the Introduction of Good Agriculture
Practices (GAP) in Citrus by Training and Demonstration to farmers, harvesters, processors/exporters;
Established work plans and timelines for implementation with consistent follow up;
Set quantitative result targets that reflect adequate economic returns (i.e. income and employment) to project
and stakeholders;
Regularly collected and report disaggregated data related to sector for documenting the
outputs/outcomes/impact of the program intervention;
Selected and managed an adequate and diversified staff to achieve objective and targets;
Established and maintained relationships with private (farmers, harvesters, processors & exporters) and public
sector (Govt. institutions, NGOs etc).
Identified, established and maintained linkages at both forward and backward levels for citrus value chain.
Identified potential interventions to transform citrus export supply chain by technological innovations and
implementing citrus postharvest management program with focus on reduction of postharvest losses.

Overall responsibility for planning, implementing, monitoring and coordinating the implementation of the
USAID/ASF horticultural project components;

Coordinated stakeholders for International Market Linkages/Access Program for Germany (Fruit Logistica),
Masco (Fruit World) & Dubai (AgraMe);
Coordinated with Communication team for sector related press releases, success stories and case studies;
Coordinated and identified key private sector led project interventions to foster quantitative and qualitative
improvements in the sector, either through direct intervention, through service providers or through specific
inputs from international technical assistance inputs;
Worked on annual work plan, and activity based budgeting, and key performance indicators critical to sector
and project performance;
Coordinated with Implementing partners and formed 96 Farmers Enterprise Groups and identified potential
interventions to improve value chains to increase farm productivity and collective marketing as a business
model ;
Provided Technical Assistance for Quality Assurance and Food Safety Compliance and Coordinated for Global
GAP certification of value chains;
Worked with sector consultants engaged by USAID/ASF from time to time for undertaking various assignments
to improve value chains of horticulture;
Supported Monitoring and Evaluation Team for baseline, process monitoring and impact study for horticulture
value chains and developed the VCD component based M&E plan to monitor the performance and progress of
interventions.

SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS IN ASF/USAIDs PROJECT


Carried out value chain analyses to determine potential interventions into selected horticulture value chains of
mango, chili, dates and high value/off season vegetables to enhance competitiveness of sector;
Developed and initiated Scope of Work (SOW) for hiring short term consultants for establishment of date
model farms, worked on SOW for foreign consultant for chili value chain analysis & arranged meeting with chili
stakeholders and initiated SOW for Technical and Managerial Training Program for chili processors;
Conducted situational analysis , identification of gaps for potential interventions through field visits,
consultation with stakeholders, developed intervention briefers and concept notes/RFA and structured grant
interventions for horticulture projects, ensured conformity and quality, for ultimate submission to the grants
department for further processing;
Distributed tool kits for Bread and Breed project among women Farmer Enterprise Group (FEGs) for 321
members of FEG;
Conducted Participatory Rapid Horticulture Assessment (PRHA) and developed report on PRHA and carried out
baseline survey of 05 horticulture value chains to identify potential interventions and gapes for potential
interventions;
Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing good/best practices in value chain
development.
