Sacred Space Ceremony
FRONT STEPS TO SAMSUNG HALL
The ceremony of the festival will open with
members of Center for Babaylan Studies
(CFBS) in collaboration with Sama Sama
Tayo, Balik Sa Dagat Bangka Journey, and
Laga Weavers in procession honoring the
cultural traditions of the major regions of the
Philippines, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Through music, dance, chant, ancient script,
and tribal ceremonial dress, the procession
will pay tribute to indigenous knowledge and
rituals through contemporary expressions.
From the steps of the Museum, the sounds
and movements of the Philippines will guide
the audience into Samsung Hall. There,
an invocation, bearing the spirit of Tulay,
will gather participants and their intentions
of bridging the ancient to the modern, the
homeland and adopted land, the waves of
immigration, and up to ten generations of
Filipino Americans in the US.

Tulay: Bridging Cultures, Bridging Generations
Share stories about generations of Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the Bay Area with book talks, performances, interactive presentations and
arts. This years theme, Tulay (bridge), represents a link between multiple generations and two countries that bring a broader perspective to the
Filipino American communitys contribution to the Bay Areas arts and culture. Presenters include the Florante Aguilar and Chus Alonso band,
Myrna Del Rio and friends, Filipino martial arts school Eskabo Daan, American Center of Philippine Arts, local historian and author Evangeline
Buell, and Mel Orpilla, Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) president, as the emcee.

Tnalak weaving from Tboli people from
