Quick Installation Guide for Device Types in SAP
Note: The display of the screens can change according to the SAP version and user interface (known as
SAP Frontend). This guide has been created using the SAP Frontend 6.40 on an English-language Windows
platform. Proceed accordingly, therefore, with any other combination.
Please note that this guide describes only the normal installation of an SAP device type. For more detailed
information, please refer to the SAP printer manual (available on the Internet at help.sap.com).
For various device types with special properties like Unicode or Chinese characters, certain requirements
must be met in your SAP: certain settings, releases or service packs, for example. Please consult the SAP
notes (https://websmp106.sap-ag.de/notes) for comprehensive information on the relevant topic and
ensure that the SAP system is properly prepared for any such option.
1. File the device type in a data directory that SAP can access, and make a note of the path.

We recommend that you use the temporary directory of your frontend computer, i.e. the PC on which you
will login to SAP, as SAP is pre-configured for this directory. In many cases it is the directory C:\temp.
This directory can be accessed from a Windows system by opening a DOS box and entering set temp
and confirming with the enter key. The path for this directory is then displayed.
2. Log in to your SAP system with administrator rights for the spool system.
3. Start transaction SPAD:
either by clicking Tools >>CCMS >>Print >>SPAD Spool Administration in the SAP Easy Access
Menu
or by entering SPAD in the transaction field at the top left and clicking Enter.

4.You can import the device type in the window Spool Administration: Initial Screen:

To do this, select the menu item Utilities(M) >>For device types >>Import.

5.The window SAPscript Export to Dataset / SAPscript Import to Dataset will open:

6. Click the selection button for Device Type in the Object selection and session ctrl field (see also the
figure above). Enter the name of the device type in the input field Object name".
7. In the field marked CTRL parameter for file-operation you must enter the location where you stored the
device type and select whether it is located on your frontend computer or on the SAP server. Normally
this is preset to the temporary directory of the frontend computer.

SAP automatically replaces the ********&&&& with the name of the device type. You do not need to enter
the path, however, as it can be selected directly by means of an open file dialog at a later point in time.
8. Press the F8 key or the Execute icon to confirm your entries and execute them.

9. The Create Object Directory Entry window will appear.
Normally the button Local Object is clicked here.

Caution: This depends on your SAP system and its transport system. Your SAP administrator can give
you more detailed information about this.

10. Then a Windows dialog for locating and selecting the file of the device type will appear. If you followed the
recommendation above, you only need to click on the Open button.

Otherwise you will have to find and/or specify the path and the file name accordingly in this window and
confirm with Open.

SAP will then import the device type and output a message.
If successful, it will look something like this:

If unsuccessful (for example, if SAP is unable to find a file), it will look something like this:

11.Press the F3 key (Back) until you return to the Spool Administration: Initial Screen.

12.As a final step, the device type should be checked to see whether the desired fonts (especially with fonts
that have been developed for special character sets like Andale for Unicode or Hei, Kai and Song for
simplified Chinese) can also be generated together with SAP.

In order to do this, switch to transaction SE73 (font maintenance) by entering it into the entry window at
the upper left of the screen and confirming with Enter.

If you prefer the SAP Easy Access Menu, the path is: Tools >>CCMS >>Print >>SE73 Font
Maintaince.

13.The window SAPscript Font Maintenance: Initial Screen will appear.
Select Printer Fonts and click on the Display button.

14.In the SAPscript Font Maintenance: Display Printer Fonts window, double click on the relevant device
type to select it.

15.A new window with the same heading will appear: this window displays all fonts supported for the device
type as well as all of the print controls they require.
Click on the Font Conversion button.

16.The Font Conversion for Lang... window will appear. Please enter the language key that you also want
to use later when generating and printing your forms. This is important to the extent that certain
implementations can differ according to the language selected.

If you want to use multiple languages, all of them should be tested as described here so as to forestall
any unpleasant surprises.

17.Now SAP will display a complete list of all system fonts and the corresponding printer fonts used for them.

Note that all fonts that SAP supports directly with the device type are highlighted in green (as an example
of this, see the ANDALE_T-fonts in the figure above). For fonts that cannot be generated with the device
type, replacement fonts defined in SAP under the system fonts are used.

If the desired font is not highlighted in green, a replacement font might not be able to print all characters,
e.g. COURIER in lieu of ANDALE, as it does not contain all characters. For each unprintable character, a
crosshatch symbol # is generated in the printed image.

Which device types are required for printing Unicode characters or Simplified
Chinese with the KYOmulticode card?

The following fonts are provided by the KYOmulticode card:

Unicode:
AndaleJ (J apanese)
AndaleK (Korean)
AndaleS (Simplified Chinese)
AndaleT (Traditional Chinese)

There is no difference among the these four Andale versions regarding the remaining writing systems
(Arabic, western and eastern Europe, Hebrew, Thai etc.). Each of these four fonts covers these writing
systems using the same character appearances.

Four versions are necessary, as Unicode defines the characters themselves but not their exact appearance.
In J apanese, Korean and Chinese language some characters share the same code table position but differ
slightly in ways that experienced readers would recognise immediately.

For these fonts, which are supported by Unicode-ready SAP systems, the device type ZKM12PU8 is
provided for all Unicode-compatible Kyocera printers.

Simplified Chinese:
Hei (bold)
Kai (normal)
Sung (fine)

Along with the normal Latin letters (US ASCII), these fonts contain all the characters for the simplified
Chinese writing system commonly used in the Peoples Republic of China.
The device type ZKM12PCN can be used here, and can also be operated with non-Unicode-capable
versions of SAP environment.
