October On September 11 th , the amazing Wichita Collegiate 6 th grade headed out to Elmdale, Kansas. You might ask why they went to Camp Wood YMCA for the night. The 6 th grade literature class had read an amazing survival book called Hatchet. Yeah, it is cool to read a survival book, but we wanted to do those cool survival activities in real life. At Camp Wood, we got to experience many survival activities. We canoed across the lake to retrieve a survival golf ball, climbed and belayed on a 50 ft. tower
called the Alpine Tower, built mini lean- to shelters, learned three different types of campfires, caught fish, and even practiced shooting with bows. Even though it wasnt tied to survival, we all enjoyed surviving the GaGa pit a form of dodge ball. This really was a great trip. Mr. Gehrer, the mayor of Spartanville, told me that the plan is to take next years sixth graders to Camp Wood where they will also get a great survival experience. Jon-Marc

They practice hard every day but Thursday in the gyms. They warm up with running, arm exercises/stretches, lunges, high knees, and other stretches. They play 1 to 3 games each Saturday, and each game is about 45 minutes long. When Serena Zakharia was asked what she liked most about volleyball, she said, The coaches help you step by step; they dont just breeze through it. She was also asked about the biggest difference between intramural and school league. She said, Longer practices. They push you more, and you learn a bit more about teamwork. So far, the girls have won some and lost some. They mainly play St. Francis, SEAS, and Blessed Sacrament. Come out and support the Girls Volleyball Team! Football The 6th grade football team is playing a tough league this year. Our opponents include Andover, Derby, and Maize. The team practices on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Our games are always on Saturday afternoons. Our practices start at 6:15 pm each day and end at 8:00 pm. For now, the team is 1-2. The team had a difficult start but is now doing better and playing well. They want to be the best they can be. Come watch the 6th grade Spartan football team and give them your support. Grand Opening of Spartanville The 6th Grade has just started their new life at Spartanville! This small town is located on the sixth grade hall in WCS, the best school ever. The town opened on Monday and includes Finan Lab, Schwarz Pi Shop, DeVries Garden, Gehrer Forum, and Smith Global Travels. The new Spartanville residents will participate by doing jobs that will earn them monthly salaries. Every student has the job of being an exemplary student. Other jobs include Homework Monitor, Fine Officer, and Manager. The Homework Monitor writes on their advisors board all the homework for each night. With the money they earn from their job and from bonuses, residents will pay a monthly residency tax and utilities. They may even become landowners and stockholders.
