Astudent is raising up a church where he lives. Dale Mason teaches him, using the simple leadership training material we are printing. We have printed 18 simple study booklets to teach men to evangelize and lead. I'm in charge of this. Hight now we're doing a 2-book manual to guide a stu dent to guide the men he teaches to raise up their own church, where they live. One of ny students is beginning this on an island near here. These study materials are translated from ones written by our friend, George Patterson, whom we visited last year in Honduras, In Februai-y he visited here with missionaries from many parts of brazil, )4 days. ^Ul of us plan to meet in August about 600 miles south of here to discuss progress and make plans. Beverly is helping a new teacher learn to teach a children's class in the church. I'm now out of regular duties in it. Two of the men I teach are evan gelizing and teaching the adults. Two others evangelize and teach the young people. The church grew $Q% last year, with 18 baptisms. Membership is hi attendance about 65, We plan to continue in it, but not as leaders, ' In March the church got the roof on new classrooms and baptistry that are be ing built. Still lacking are doors, windows, floor, plumbing, the baptistry itself, plastering, and wiring. But at least there is space for classes. The people are doing this. We contribute, perhaps as much as a third, From money we receive from you we contribute for trips to Macapa, on the north side of the Amazon, by Dale Mason. He teaches men in the church who wanb to evangelize. 'Ihey have had no missionary for 10 years. He goes every 2 weeks at ip50 a trip. Teaching as we now do we can help men in distant places to ' raise up the church without having to move there, which would be impossible. The Lord willing we'll be in the U,8. My, and plan to visit as many as we c^, to share with you what has been done by our joint effortyours and ours. Without you we couldn't be here. We thank God, and thank you for your continued faithfulness in support. Wg wish we could visit everyone but Jinl^^aks it will be impossible. I suppose you would rather we be here'at ork-than spending months travelling. Could we see you at the North American Christian Convention? We plan to be there. Alot of you have been writing to us. This has been interesting. It gives a ^ance to write about other things. Drop a line, and you'll hear from us. Flease use commemorative stands. Or call, as some do, hrazll (912) 27-022r) has numbness on her right side, and has been sick with flu. Wic)i you would pray for her. The rest of us are doing all right. John is flnishinF up idndergarten. Will b going to the American missionary school in August Joanne will be in the 6th grade. I'll soon he liO. >aas! We've beep, hero Should be good for 30 more. Loft begsin a Mission Work in Belem, Para, Brazil. Soon he enlisted other families to help in the work, including David and Beverly Bayless, who went there in 1959. On December 21, 1958, David M. Bayless and Beverly Kay Waller (both students at Ozark Bible College) were mar ried and immediately prepared to go to Brazil. Through the years various types of evangelism have been ui^d in the Belem area of Brazil. There have been good results and many people were won to Christ and a number of congre gations established. As soon as men were trained to preach and lead, congregations chose their own elders, who took over res ponsibility of the congregations. Brazilians were in charge, tho the missionary was available to advise and sometimes train additional leaders. Always alert to find better methods, in February 1975, ^ David Bayless and Dale Mason visited a man in Honduras who ^ had had great success in evangelizing Latin .Americans. They I went to visit, observe, and obtain information. Returning to Belem with samples of studies, soon they had translated into Portuguese and printed these Bible Studies. They then trained Brazilian men of the churches to go out and win people to Christ. So these men, not the missionaries, take these Honduras Studies out to teach and to win. Then these who are taught and won go out to teach and win others. As of October 1975there were 12 studies printed and being _^used around Belem and other placesin Brazil. jPgpple are being ' won to Christ and the Brazilians are doing it! That is as it should be! The Missionaries continue to translate, oversee the ; printing, train Christian men to go out, and sometimes give l^^advice when needed. ] ^ The Print Shop continues to be a great force for evangel- wsm. David has been training a Brazilian man to operate the printing press, help in preparation, etc. This will free David to do other much needed tasks. From Mission Funds, David and other missionaries pay this printer. The Bayless family consists of David and Beverly, with their children Joanne (11) and John (5). Support comes from a number of churches, classes, women's groups, and individuals. They deeply appreciate the interest and support of these Chris tian Friends, without whom they could not continue in His Work in Brazil! CHRIST FOR^TFHE AMAZON VALLEY MR. AND MRS. Seems as if we hadn't even left, The two-month furlough had us back so soon, we were able to start up right where we left off working here. The church we left on its own had 3 converts while we were gone, and another soon after we returned, I teach 2 men, who are evangelizing two men, and hope to win their whole famtlies. One teaches 3 young men in the church, who won 3 In our absence. The leaders began tithing, and teach it. Offerings are up, A church re-started 20 mi, east of Bel^ has apparently been taken over by the 7th Day Pentecostals, The leader was unwilling to evangelize and called them in. Dale Mason he.lpefl bogii.i a new church on the edge of BsIcti in August, teaching men as we liave'boe^. doing with the sinple teaching materials we print. It has its probleras^ mainlty drunkeness, which is so prevalent. But it is continuing, A few hundi'ed i^lla-3 southeast of here Bill Moreland helped a man begin a church in August, toacItJ.i-ig IhcLS way, showing'Tueh how to lead, and preparing them. The principle tbir. evangelism Is i^tation, Noxmian Maddux is teaching a man who seems about ready to beccne a Chilstian, Already he Imitates what Norman lias been doing, and teaches others. And the men I teach still hope to get back to the resort island where they were evangelizing. Vacation time and disinterest over thez'e stopped their efforts in July, Inflation is something ten^ible. While in the D, d, it wai. n^^jegaary to buy a lot of^supplies for our printing operation. They had to be shipped, but money ran out, 'At that point the only thing to do was borrow fVan the bank. So, if anyone is looking for a project, , , It was $1200, It looks as if we'll be able to sta:t't getting scriie paper here, as c'es have ccroe down a Iri, It's still hi^er than iiaporbing, but not so bad as it was. Hopefully we wcti't have to ship so much any more. Our goal here is to multiply our ministry, showing men hew to evangelize and men raise up their own church in new places, preparing them always to take Cthe'next step, by teaching malevel on which they can understand and teach their own converts. This has to be the way to multiply churches. Please pray for 08 to have wisdom to do this. It's not going as fast as we would like. We thank you again for your indispensable financial euppoart. Keep writing. And thanks for the church papers, Mark it AirMall and put on 31 lours in Christ,
