Hello all! I just wanted to wish those who celebrate the holiday a meaningful
Yom Kippur. The Day of Atonement in the Jewish religion begins at sunset today
and last until nightfall tomorrow.
As a rabbis son, I have long listened to my rabbis High Holiday sermons in
awe for many years, and two years ago, I decided to get into the sermon game
myself. Here, read my Yom Kippur sermon from September 2012, on the eve of
the presidential election, on atonement and repentance in the world of politics or
lack thereof.
G'mar Hatimah Tovah and Happy Fasting to some,
And have a great weekend all,

THIS IS YOUR WAKE UP CALL
No Relief for Holder on His Way Out House Republicans have gotten
their wish: Eric Holders exit, which they have been demanding for years, I
finally underway. But that doesnt mean the Attorney General will get any
relief from them on his way out.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee filed a motion
Thursday asking U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson to fine
Holder personally if he doesnt comply with an order Jackson issued in
August requiring him to turn over non-privileged documents [related to the
Justice Department response to Operation Fast and Furious] responsive to a
committee subpoena by October 1, according to Politico.
Politico also reported House lawyers suggesting, in order to get Holder to
comply with the obey the court order, to hold him in contempt of court and
put him in jail. Holders lawyers, meanwhile, requested an extension of the
October 1 deadline, arguing that it made more sense for Jackson to rule on
all the disputed records and then take the case to the D.C. Circuit for an
appeal rather than proceed piecemeal.
September Jobs Report The September jobs report will be released at 8:30
Eastern Time today by the Labor Departments Bureau of Labor Statistics.

2014 Polling Roundup: WI GOV A new Marquette poll shows Gov. Scott
Walker (R-WI) leading businesswoman and former state Commerce
Secretary Mark Burke (D) 50% to 45% with likely voters, and 46% to 45%
among registered voters. It's the first time this year Marquette has seen an
edge for either candidate outside the 3.5 percent margin of error. Burke leads
big in Milwaukee city and the Madison media market, while Walker is
winning the rest of the Milwaukee market outside the city by a 62 percent to
32 percent margin, according to the Washington Post.
2014 Polling Roundup: MA GOV In a deep blue state such as
Massachusetts, a new WBUR/MassInc poll shows the gubernatorial race a
little closer than Democrats would like, begging the question: will Martha
Coakley lead Massachusetts Democrats to statewide defeat again?
Attorney General Martha Coakley (D), known for losing the 2010 U.S.
Senate special election to Scott Brown, leads businessman Charlie Baker (R)
44% to 41% in the poll.
Coakleys campaign is struggling, and the Bay States all-Democratic
congressional delegation has been asked to donate $25,000 each to help.

Today In

1863 President Abraham Lincoln issues a proclamation declaring that the
last Thursday in November is Thanksgiving Day.
1992 At Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Barack Obama, then a
lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School and director of Illinois
Project Vote, is married to lawyer Michelle Robinson, in a ceremony
presided by Rev. Jerimiah Wright.
Obama and Robinson met when they worked together at the law firm Sidley
Austin, where they were two of few African-American employees and she
was assigned to mentor him when he joined.
I believe the happy groom is now a former U.S. Senator from Illinois.
1991 Arkansas Bill Clinton announces a campaign for the Democratic

2012 The first presidential debate of the 2012 general election is held,
between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney, in Denver.
Romney is widely considered to have won.
