TRAFFIC SCHOOL Lecture



1. Introduce our Traffic School

A. Were licensed by DMV and the Court to teach Traffic Violator
School (TVS). We hv English / Spanish / Chinese classes, most
classes on Sat & Sun, weekday classes if we have 4 or more
students.

B. go over the Rules on the Board: no sleeping, phone, reading.
Drinks/bathroom ok.

C. Drinks (water, soda, tea) pls help yourself. The pricing is there,
we only charge our cost, pls give $ to me (teacher).

D. Time posted on the Board - DMV rule 6 hrs & 40 min of
instruction, so well get out around 3:45 p.m. (or earlier if we skip
break or lunch time)

E. Operator = Mr. Gilbert Martinez, owns 14 schools, running traffic
school for > 10 years

F. This location is run by Attorney Ms. Mok, specializes in personal
injury/auto accident, civil & biz litigation, family & immigration
- there are some legal flyers by the door students can pick up

G. Teacher (yourself) = pls introduce yourself (as related to teaching /
driving etc.)

G. ask student how do they find out about this school? (Pls let
Frannie know the answer (from court handout? friends referral?
from previous school in Chinatown?)

2. What do you think are the most common reasons for police to give
out traffic tickets?

4. Each student shares why they got ticket & how much is the $
fine - write on the Board.
- Add up how much $ is involved for this class only.

5. What other money is involved for traffic violation?
- insurance, medical costs, property damage, loss income, loss time,
traffic school costs, job if require a clean driving record
- anyone here involved in car accident before raise your hands
- how many accidents in the U.S. per year? Print out (C)
- insurance: whats minimum req.? Print out (C)
- do we hv to report all accidents to DMV? Print out (C)

6. Play tape no. 1 (about 10 minutes) then discuss the tape (SCOPE)

A. Scan be alert of the surroundings, blind spots, headlights

B. Concentration? What will distract - Tired, Cell phone
Print-out (D) Cell phone (handsfree 1/1/08), eating, GPS, reading
map, book, wearing make-up, loud radio, talking with passengers,
taking care of children, balloon blocking vision, smoking, writing,
getting things out from purse

C. Observation pay attention
D. Plan road destination
E. Execution follow your plan, adjust to environment

2 . speed limit on residence/school ? 25 mph or posted

7. Talk about Car insurance (liab, 2-way, UM, Med Pay) Tak

8. Play Tape No. 3 DUI (long tape, 1 hr 15 min)
* complete the certificates when students watch the tapes

Discuss DUI tape (See Tape print-out folder)

a. What are all of the DUI drivers in the tape has in common?
b. What are the damages by DUI in the tape?
c. Print-out (H) pass out car accident photos

7. Play Tape No. 2 (short ~ 10 minutes),
Discuss the tape (See Tape print-out folder)

8. Discuss remaining topics on print-outs
Print-out (J) Parking white/green/yellow/red/blue?
Print-out (K) Equipment safety
(lights/brake/windshields/mirrors/horn/tires/seat belts)
Print-out (L) unattended children, what age?

9. After accident, what is important to write down? remain calm

a. opposing partys license plate (then attorney or police can get
remaining info from DMV)
b. opposing partys insurance info
c. opposing partys drivers license (license no. & address)
give out my law firms Accident Information Sheet one per
student for them to keep in their glove compartment.

10. 3 pm - give out the test

11. 3:15 pm - go over the answers of the tests one by one

12. 3:30 pm give out certificates

a. students sign / white copy to court, yellow copy to keep
students to carefully review all info on cert

b. students cannot leave until ALL students recv cert.

13. 3:45 pm Dismiss - thank students for coming.
