ASCENT presents ASIA PACIFIC HRM CONGRESS

Adrian Gostick and Scott Christopher, in their book `The Levity Effect: Why It Pays To Lighten Up', say that
if people are having fun, they're going to work harder, stay longer, maintain their composure in a crisis, and
take better care of the organisation. More than 100 studies have now found that the most engaged employees
are significantly more productive, drive higher customer satisfaction and outperform those who are less
engaged.
But only 20 per cent of employees around the world report that they're fully engaged at work. So what's the
solution? The answer is that great employers must shift the focus from trying to get more out of people, to
investing more in them by addressing their four core needs -physical, emotional, mental and spiritual -so
they're freed, fuelled and inspired to bring the best of themselves to work every day.
What would make you feel most excited to get to work in the morning? The sort of company an engaged
employee should have in mind would include the following as a part of its philosophy: Employee input: allow
1. ing your employees to share their knowledge and suggestions keeps them engaged; Employee empower
2. ment: allowing teammembers to make customers happy using their own discretion and common sense can
benefit your company; Excellent communica
