Pre-Production - Developing in the idea

Annie (2014) is imagined to be the blockbuster of December with great expectancies.
Surprisingly, the creators of this film cant take full responsibility for the plot and story
behind Annie. The first signs of Annie were a comic strip dating back to 1924 of an orphan
named Annie who would fight against crooks. The popular storyline and production of Annie
originated back in the 70s and was first presented to the world as a Broadway musical. The
story of Annie was first shown on April 21
st
1977 in New York. The great minds behind this
were the lyricist Marting Charnin that teamed with playwright Thomas Meehan and
composer Charles Strouse to write and coordinate the musical.
In 1982 the highly acclaimed Broadway production was converted to the big screens. The
film was directed by John Huston and scripted by Carol Sobieski. It wasnt identical to the
play version but was just as successful, a film notorious for being internationally
recognizable.
For the Annie (2014) film the idea was decided by the multinational company Sony in 2012.
Straight away they called in two of the biggest names in show biz to produce the film, Jay-Z
and Will Smith (to modernize the classic film.) They decided the production would be a
modern remake of the 1982 film of Annie. In 2013 Will Gluck was assigned the honorable
task of directing the film. Actress, Emma Thompson was screenwriter and produced a draft,
a second draft was created by Aline McKeena and production was announced in Spring
2013.
