BERRIES PEASIZE EL 31
Early season continues.
The early season varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
are getting close to Berries Peasize (EL 31). This is
earlier than usual and growers are advised to prepare for
an early harvest especially if they are producing grapes
for sparkling wine. Note the with-holding periods of any
vineyard agrochemicals you are using to ensure you do
not use any products too close to harvest.

Downy Mildew
This week we have confirmed a low level of Downy
Mildew in vineyards from the Downy Mildew 10:10:24
Primary Event on the 28th of November. These Oilspots
have produced spores on the backs of leaves (left)
caused by the Downy Secondary Event (warm, wet
night) on December 8th.

The risk of Downy Mildew affecting your bunches is low.
www.adelaidehillswine.blogspot.com Most vineyards have berries larger than 3-5mm and are
considered immune to infection. Downy Mildew can only
affect your harvest if more secondary events occur and
Oilspot levels build up. CropWatch recommends
including Downy Mildew protectants with any fungicide
spray – especially if rain is forecast.

Remember once Oilspots appear they cannot be

successfully killed by metalaxyl (Ridomil, Axiom).

Walk down your vine rows and look for any signs like the
photos shown on the CropWatch Blog. Tag any Oilspots
you find and watch to see if they sporulate and spread,
or if they dry out and become inactive.

Light Brown Apple Moth

Check your developing bunches for signs of caterpillar damage. Apple moth damage is usually found in
‘hotspots’. If you find one damaged bunch like this (above) check other bunches and in nearby leaves for
more apple moth activity.
