a. compare two sets using the expressions fewer than and more than:
b. write the terms for comparing objects correctly:
c. follow the teachers instruction carefully.

II. Subject Matter:
Topic: Comparing sets using the expressions fewer than more than
Reference: BEC PELC I.A A.5.1 & 5.2
Materials: spoons, forks, cut outs, other objects with materials available in the
locality, picture cards
III. Procedure:
Teachers Activity
1. Drill
Good morning class?
Are you ready for our next lesson this

Ok. class, I have here picture cards.
Who wants to come in front and arrange the
picture cards correctly from greatest to least,
then from least to greatest?

2. Review
Yesterday we discussed about Arranging
sets in one-more order and more-less order,
isnt it class?
Ok. let me see if you really understood our
lesson.
I have here picture cards which are not
properly arranged.
Now class, arrange the set of picture cards
from one-more order and from more-least
order.
Pupils Activity

Yes maam.

( Pupils will do the activity)

Yes maam.

( Pupils will do the activity)
Value: Obedience

3. Motivation
Paying Simon Says

The teacher call on 5 pupils and tell them
to follow what Simon (the teachers says).

Simon says: make a group of one less than the
other.

(Ask pupils to tell how many pupils are there in
each group.)

B. Developmental activities
1. Presentation
Class, what do you use in eating your food?
Ok. I have here a set of 2 forks and a set of 3
spoons.
How will you compare the forks with the
spoons?
Very good!
Is there still another way on how to compare
the forks with the spoons?

Very good!

Which is more?
Which is fewer?
Yes, the forks are fewer than the spoons or
the spoons are more than the forks.

2. Discussion/ Analysis
We use the word fewer than in comparing
set of objects when an object has a smaller
number compared to the other object.
Example 1:

Set A Set B

Which set has a smaller number?

(One group with three pupils will stay in one
area, and the bother group will stay on the
other area.)
( Expected response)

Spoon and fork maam.

The forks are fewer than the spoons maam.

The spoons are more than the spoons
maam.

Spoons maam.
Forks maam.

Set A maam.
How many ball pens are there in set A?
How about in set B, how many ball pens are
there?
Now, how will you compare the ball pens in
set A with set B using the word fewer than?
Very good!

Example 2:

Set A Set B

Which set has a smaller number?
How many bags are there in set A?
How about in set B, how many bags are there?
Now, how will you compare the bags in set A
with the bags in set B using the word fewer
than?

Very good!

Now class, we also use the word more
than in comparing set of objects when an
object has a greater number compared to the
other.

Example 1:

Set A Set B

Which set has a greater number?
How many stars are there in set A?
1 maam.

6 maam.

The ball pens in set A are fewer than the ball
pens in set B maam.

Set A maam.
1 maam.
3 maam.

The bags in set A are fewer than the bags in
set B maam.

Set A maam.
5 maam.
How about in set B, how many stars are there?
How will you compare the stars in stars with the
stars in set B using the word more than?

Very good!

Example 2:

Set A Set B

Which set has a greater number?
How many guitars are there in set A?
How about in set B, how many guitars are
there?
How will you compare the guitars in set A
with the guitars in set B using the word more
than?

Very good!

(The teachers show another examples to the
class and let them compare the sets of objects
using the expressions fewer than and more
than.)

Now class, I will group you into six. I will
distribute to you set of cut out objects. You
compare the sets using fewer than and more
than. Paste the cut out objects according to its
set and write the expressions used.

Class, do you know now how to compare sets
using the expression fewer than
and more than?

3. Generalization
1 maam.

The stars in set A are greater than the stars
in set B maam.

Set A maam.
5 maam.

1 maam.

The guitars in set A are more than the
guitars in set B maam.

Yes maam.
