Album art does more than just convey the name of your band and title of your CD---it sells your music to
your target audience. Whether at a merchandise booth at a show or through a digital marketplace, your
album art can catch the eye and imagination of your fans. While professional designers create most
iconic album art, almost anybody can crate attractive, professional album covers with readily available
tools. In very little time, you can design and produce a simple album cover with a back panel card that
you will slot into a jewel case.

With the increasing popularity of digital music downloading services and the inflating cost of conducting
business, the purpose and prevalence of the album cover is evolving.

Little Dragon-Nabuma Rubberband

The fourth album to come from Gothenburgs Little Dragon sees a child weightlessly suspended in the
air for the cover of recently released Nabuma Rubberband. At a glance, it's a nod to the bleak winter
climate of their hometown, where they recorded the album, but it's also a delicately composed
reflection of the interplay between the playful and the pensive moments found throughout the album.

Stefan Sagmeister: I am intrigued by the visual of the Lady herself. It is iconic and a good departure from
past Gaga incarnations. Love the blue ball and hate the type. This would have been so much stronger
without any typography.

Paula Scher: I LOVE the cover. It's hilarious, sensual, and beautiful. Just like Lady Gaga.

Nate Duval: It sort of looks hastily pieced together in Photoshop. Personally, I would have focused more
on the statue, which does look intriguing, in a more realistic high-fashion photo shoot setting, aiming for
a larger focus on an artificial/natural juxtaposition. Seeing the hand of the artist and layout work done
digitally sort of softened the blow of the striking and thought-provoking image of Stephanie cast in
plastic.

Co.Design: In an effort to get people to actually buy the physical album instead of just downloading it,
the first half-million physical copies sold won't have a flat image cover. Instead, "Lady Gaga" will be
pasted on, in hot pink metallic foil, and the word ARTPOP will appear in silver. Does this have potential to
turn into a collector's item?

The marketing and packaging of the Brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence stands out, due to the white
face outline placed over their faces. Its a real simple illustration but, the simplicity of it is memorable.
This illustration works so well, that fans can now make their own Disclosure faces on Facebook.

Looking at it the title would be stylized as the one-word "Ultraviolence" or two-word "Ultra Violence".

After musicians put hard work into writing their songs, recording them, and making sure their album has
come out just right before releasing their labor of love to the public, they want to ensure that the cover
of their masterpiece portrays complementing imagery. Thats when they call in the big names to come up
with a design concept that enhances their albums sound. These bands and solo musicians have
commissioned new, and in some cases borrowed existing artwork by acclaimed fine and street artists to
add an extra creative element to their albums. Take a look at these 10 awesome album covers designed
