Teaching of predestination....
The teaching of predestination has to be clarified ost decisi!el" if
people are not to be pushed into #rong thin$ing and copletel"
islead. %t is a genuine danger to people #ho accept #hat is
offered to the as a religious doga #ithout seriousl" reflecting on
it.
This teaching destro"s e!er" ipulse in the huan being& b"
suppressing the aspiration to ascend' the huan being becoes
inacti!e and copletel" surrenders hiself to the actions of forces
#hich no# ha!e po#er o!er hi.
The person does nothing to resol!e this ob!ious inertia because he
belie!es that God(s grace #ill re!eal itself to hi #hen )e so
pleases.
This assuption is proof of his issing faith in God(s infinite lo!e
and erc"' it is an assessent of the *ternal Deit" in accordance
#ith huan understanding' because it infers that God(s lo!e
depends on the #orth or #orthlessness of the person.
God(s erc" includes all huan beings& and di!ine lo!e is onl"
ineffecti!e #here huan #ill offers resistance' but it is al#a"s
concerned #ith turning this #ill to#ards itself.
God is certainl" pleased #hen people as$ for )i' #hose #ill thus
enables the besto#ing of grace. But )is care and lo!e is al#a"s
concerned #ith those #ho do not "et #ant to be sei+ed b" )is lo!e.
)o#e!er' it #ould be copletel" #rong to assue that God(s gift of
grace is gi!en arbitraril"' that recei!ing it can neither be pre!ented
nor encouraged b" the huan being&
it #ould be copletel" #rong to use huan liitations in respect to
the gi!ing of God(s lo!e' i.e. b" assuing that it depends on God(s
pleasure in the person.
%n that case the huan being #ould be a laentable creature'
because he is in an iperfect state of aturit" #hich #ould ha!e to
e,clude God(s bene!olence& he is still sinful' i.e. his #ill is still
stri!ing to#ards God.
God(s bene!olence is not aroused until the #ill turns to#ards God
and this oti!ates God in gi!ing )is grace in abundance to the
huan being. But God #ill ne!er ipart )is grace to the huan
being #hose inner #ill is still in opposition to God.
- person can indeed openl" oppose God but his soul can
ne!ertheless desire God' in #hich case the forces of the under#orld
are strongl" influencing hi to re!olt against God' and then di!ine
grace #ill help hi to achie!e !ictor" o!er these forces. This is
undeniabl" caused b" di!ine grace' it has helped the person #hose
heart had desired God.
- huan being #ho #ould recei!e di!ine grace #ithout his #ill or in
opposition to his #ill #ould be a predestined being' he #ould ha!e
to ature b" eans of grace. But such aturit" e,cludes free #ill
and #ould therefore ne!er result in perfection....
