STRATHCONA SOLAR CREATES 50

JOBS IN NAPANEE AND
ADDITIONAL 130 JOBS IN THE
REGION

Napanee, Ontario, October 10, 2014 The Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington Community Futures
Development Corporation (PELA CFDC) and Lennox & Addington County are pleased to congratulate Strathcona
Solar Initiatives on the ribbon cutting of their new Napanee manufacturing plant that will see 50 new jobs created
in the community. Founded in 2009 in Lennox and Addington County, Strathcona Solar Initiatives has successfully
focused on the design, installation and maintenance of solar projects. During that tenure, Strathcona has enjoyed
the support of Canadian Government programs including grants and loans through the PELA CFDC and the
Southern Ontario Fund for Investment in Innovation (SOFII) that has supported the advancement of renewable
energy business and the rapid growth of this company.

I would like to congratulate Strathcona Solar on this exciting achievement, said Gary Goodyear, Minister of State
for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). The support that has
been provided through the Community Futures Program and SOFII is a great example of how our Government
stands behind southeastern Ontarios innovative businesses. The result is clear: jobs, growth and prosperity for
our communities.

I would like to congratulate Strathcona Solar on the remarkable expansion, said Daryl Kramp, Member of
Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings. I am confident their strong management and innovative technology will
provide for outstanding success throughout our region and around the world. This significant job creation is a
testament to their faith in our communities, the support of their respective partners and their commitment to
excellence. Truly, this is a welcome economic boost, and how appropriate to be here today during Manufacturing
Month.

Strathcona CEO Karl Hollett and FATH GmbH President Wido Fath outlined the companys expansion of their
manufacturing facilities and growth of the local work force. This includes:
The completion of a 60,000-square-foot Strathcona Solar plant in Napanee at which 50 employees will
produce the new VOLT solar module system that will serve the European market.
The acquisition of Eclipsall Manufacturing Corporation of Toronto, which will allow the Strathcona
Energy Group (SEG) to continue to employee 38 at the Toronto facility.
The acquisition of Mage Solar of Atlanta, Georgia and a second company from Newark, New Jersey,
which has allowed SEG to purchase the former Nortel building in Belleville, Ontario, where a new
manufacturing facility will immediately employ 130.
The establishment of an innovative North American Business Centre/Incubator that will assist
European and Asian renewable energy companies interested in the Canadian and U.S. markets.
Strathcona Solar is extremely grateful for the remarkable government and civic support we have received on
every level of growth, says Karl Hollett, the CEO of Strathcona Solar Initiatives. Being able to develop our
Ontario-grown company into an operating group with global offices and sales is an immense opportunity for us
and a great honor that will also benefit the local, regional and hopefully even national economies.
Lennox and Addington County is proud to be the home of Strathcona Energy Group. The growth of this company
is phenomenal and the addition of 50 new jobs will provide a significant boost to our economy. Strathcona Energy
Group is a Lennox and Addington success story and demonstrates that our county is an ideal location for
advanced manufacturing, stated Warden Gord Schermerhorn.
PELA CFDC is proud to have supported Strathcona Solar from its launch in 2009. Strathconas success in targeting
export markets for expansion is an example to other Canadian firms looking to grow, prosper and compete. The
50 new jobs in Napanee and 130 additional jobs in the region will truly make a difference in the lives of many in
our community. Karl and Susanne Holletts entrepreneurial passion and hard work is inspiring. Congratulations on
your well earned success, said Angela Miller, Board Chair of PELA CFDC.
The increased demand for reliable and high-yielding photovoltaic installations and energy systems has prompted
the company to expand its reach not only throughout Ontario and Canada but in the Global Solar Market. The
newly formed Strathcona Energy Group (SEG) is comprised of a number of highly diversified renewables
companies that stretch from the manufacture of top-performing solar modules and mounting components, to
engineering, procurement, construction services as well as providing complete installation, maintenance and
operational services.

PELA CFDC is one of 37 CFDCs in Southern Ontario funded by the Community Futures Program through the
Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (Fed Dev Ontario). CFDCs deliver a wide variety of
programs and services to support community economic development and small business growth. They employ
local staff and are each governed by a volunteer board of directors, made up of local residents representing the
community.

The Southern Ontario Fund for Investment in Innovation (SOFII) is supported through FedDev Ontario's Prosperity
Initiative and is being delivered by the Eastern Ontario CFDC Network Inc. and the Western Ontario Community
Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) Association. SOFII provides interest-bearing business loans to support
innovation and growth in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the region.
