Stand Up and Take Action, End Poverty Now! Event 16-18 October,
2009 by UPVAN Secretariat, Lucknow
1. Objectives:
Following are the objectives of the three day Stand Up and Take Action, End Poverty Now
Campaign -2009:
Raise Awareness among masses about the issue of extreme Poverty and Hunger
along with other MDGs.
Involvement of all sections of Society & pressure building on the Government.
Remind Policymakers of their promises to achieve MDGs.
Reinvigorate the momentum to ensure that poverty reduction and MDGs remain a
priority on the state political agenda.

2. Activities Conducted by the UPVAN Secretariat in Lucknow and adjoining areas:
A. 16 October, 2009:
1. Pledge Taking by the Students of Different Schools, Colleges & University:
UPVAN staff generated awareness among students & teachers about the MDGs and
conducted Pledge taking Activity against poverty in Schools , Colleges and university
in Lucknow. The details are following:

2. Youth Rally & Human Chain in Lucknow University:
Around 150 students of Social work department of Lucknow University,
UPVAN Staff, Representative of PATH (India) conducted Rally and went for
Long march wearing END POVERTY T-shirts & Caps and carrying Banners
against extreme Poverty and Hunger in and out side the university.
Issues related to eradication of poverty and extreme hunger and MDGs were
discussed. Students raised slogans against poverty & Hunger.
A human Chain was also made by the students at the end of the programme.

3. Signature & Awareness generation Mobile Van Campaign :
UPVAN staff & volunteers of Lucknow University conducted Signature &
Awareness generation campaign in Lucknow with Two Mobile Vans having
Banners depicting messages against Poverty and Hunger in front and rear.
Kapoorthala, Mahanagar Gole Market, Badshah Nagar Railway Station, Wave
Multiplex, FUN mall, Charbagh Railway Station and Alambagh areas of
Lucknow were visited by the UPVAN team.
Signature campaign was conducted among people and information about the
issues related with MDGs was laso given to them.
Badges & wrist bands were also distributed among people.

4. Slide Shows in Cinema Halls
Slide shows depicting messages against poverty were conducted in cinema
Halls of Lucknow with the help of entertainment tax dept.

5. Signature Campaign and Oath Taking: Bus Stands, Schools, colleges :
Volunteers of Lucknow university conducted Siganture Campaign in the
schools, colleges adjoining villages of Lucknow and in total 4842 signature
were taken.
People were made aware about the MDGs and Oath taking Activity was
conducted in Buses.

B. 17, October, 2009:
1. Signature & Awareness generation Mobile Van Campaign :
UPVAN staff & volunteers of Lucknow University conducted Signature &
Awareness generation campaign in Lucknow with One Mobile Van having Banners
depicting messages against Poverty and Hunger in front and rear.
Medical college, Chowk , Dubagga, Alamnagar, Press club areas of Lucknow
were visited by the UPVAN team.
Signature campaign was conducted among masses and people were informed
about the issues related with MDGs.
Badges & wrist bands were also distributed among masses.

3. Pledge and Awareness Generation Campaign in slum areas of
Lucknow
Awareness generation campaign was conducted among slum dwellers and
after that pledge was taken against eradication of extreme poverty, jointly by
them.

C. 18, October, 2009:
1. Meeting with Gram Pradhans(village Leaders) & Villagers
Meetings were conducted in the Block Nindura (District Barabanki), & Block
Kursi (District Barabanki) and issues related with MDGs and Poverty were
discussed.
Villagers and children also raised slogans and took pledge.
