A successful school district places a high degree of importance on
ensuring that all children have the opportunity to reach their full
potential inside and outside of the classroom. This profile helps
characterize the overall educational value of your school district in
areas that matter most in our community.

The Vision of the Finneytown Local School District is to be an
embracing community where innovation guides how
learning occurs.

The mission to accomplish this vision shall be achieved
through Finneytowns educational programs and district
organization.
We will:
Empower all students to employ the tools of critical
thinking, creativity, problem solving, and self-reflection.
Create safe and supportive environments, which value
relationships and address individual needs.
Implement challenging standards for success of students
and staff, while providing value to parents and
community.
Cultivate knowledge networks to create and recognize

2014 highlights:
Graduates received college/post-secondary scholarships
totaling $3.47 million.
1 - National Merit Finalist / 3 - Commended Students
ACT Composite: 21.8, English: 21.5, Math: 22.1, Reading: 22.4,
Science: 20.8
All junior classmen took the ACT and PSAT
Number of dual-credit opportunities through Cincinnati State
partnership: Art, French, Math.
AP courses taught: Art History, Calculus A/B, Chemistry, English
Literature and Composition, Physics B, Psychology, U.S.
Government and Politics, World History, Spanish, French.
After school Spanish program sponsored by the PTA for students
at Brent and Whitaker.
6th grade Students of the Week - each week two students
were selected and recognized. They also ate lunch with a staff
member of their choice and received special privileges from
their homeroom teacher.
Secondary Campus honors Student of the Month based on 6
categories: Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Fairness,
Responsibility, Citizenship, Trustworthy, and Caring.
Wax Museum Project - 6th grade students read a biography
and conducted research about a famous historical or modern
figure. After completing the biography and the research, the
students conducted research, then dressed as the famous

figure and read their speech as the person to the audience of
fellow students, staff, families, friends and community members.
College Visits for 6
th
- 10th graders to get students thinking about
the importance of post-secondary, work, military, and career
options.
OAA Review - students prepared for the Ohio Achievement
Assessments throughout the year. In order to keep the
excitement going and review everything they had learned,
classes reviewed activities and games during the week prior to
the OAA testing. The week culminated with the students
winning gift baskets donated from with prizes from local
businesses.
Secondary Literacy Night A community night of reading
students, faculty, and community members came to the
McNulty Stadium for a night of reading.

2014 highlights:
Visual Arts highlights
o FHS students participated in Scholastic art competition;
works were accepted into juried art exhibitions including
the very prestigious Ohio Governors Youth Art Exhibition
(only 330 pieces selected from 15,000 entries); students
are accepted into top art programs on the basis of their
art portfolios.
o Art displays from students in the annual Northminster Art
Show.
o PTA Reflections - 10 winners and 2 Honorable Mentions for
Reflections at the Hamilton County Council PTA level.
Winners went on to the State level.
Performing arts highlights:
o Students were selected for All State Band, All State Choir,
and All State Orchestra.
o Regular performing arts shows were held in the William R.
Swartzel Performing Arts Center.
Music and Arts offered:
o Orchestra program grades 5-12
o Band program grades 5-12
o Choral program grades 4-12
o General music program K-12
o A variety of Art classes are available to all students, every
day for grades 7-8; there are 3 full-time art teachers for
the 7-12 grades.
ARTS
Participation in performing and visual arts inspires students
creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

o Whitaker Drama Club - students met for 2 hours each
week from October to March to prepare for their stage
production at the William R. Swartzel Performing Arts
Center for a production of Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory.
o PTA Dance program - over 60 students participated in an
8-month program, culminated in a spring recital in the
William R. Swartzel Performing Arts Center.
o After School Art Program at Whitaker - students
participated in a 5-week fall, winter and 10-week summer
art program.

2014 highlights:
Student Councils met regularly at Whitaker Elementary and the
Secondary Campus.
Award-winning Community Service program sponsored national
and international global awareness projects, such as Treat-the-
Hungry, Breast Cancer Awareness, Week of Life, and Night
on the Serengeti.
National Honor Society inducted 40 members.
Number of athletic teams: 18
Activities/clubs by school: 22
Girls on the Run program at Whitaker promoted positive self-
image through physical activity and engaging lessons. The
program culminated with the young ladies participating in a 5K
at Paul Brown Stadium.
Trick-or-Treat for a Cure for the students and community of
Finneytown brought awareness to childhood cancers and raise
money for research.
Volley for the Cure Volleyball game raised funds and awareness
for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Affiliate.
Anthony Munoz Youth Leadership Seminar 30 high school
students attended the Xavier University Cintas Center for a day
of leadership development.
World Culture Day - A celebration of cultures in which students
and their families learned the importance of cultural diversity
and harmony.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND ACTIVITIES
A well-rounded education includes a wide variety of opportunities.

Classroom and assembly programs were presented through
Beech Acres and the Council on Child Abuse on topics such as:
peer abuse, anti-bullying, team-building, conflict resolution and
7 Habits for Success Teens.
Whitaker Student Council fundraised and shopped for items for
the PTA Holiday Basket Program to help local Finneytown
families in need.
Whitaker Community Service Club co-sponsored an annual
celebration honoring Veterans Celebration, with a cookout and
carnival that raised money to send veterans to their war
memorials in Washington, DC through the Honor Flight
organization.
Students and families participated in the Linus Project, which
created no-sew blankets to local children in the hospital and
orphanages.

Rank in comparison group for highest % spent: 26 out of 282
With generous help of our Support Organizations the district
qualified for low-cost Quality Zone Academy Bonds (QZAB)
which provides the bondholder with a federal tax credit in order
to finance renovation and repair projects including energy
conservation projects.
Bond Issue updates: Parking lots resurfaced, sealed, and
repaired; roofing projects at Brent Gym/Cafeteria, PAC - new
energy efficient HVAC units, reconditioned seats, complete new
roof; Secondary Campus roofing on 100, 200, 300 and MP;
Whitaker re-roofing (all except 1999 project).
o TRANE project - all HVAC units at Whitaker and PAC
replaced
House Bill 264 - energy upgrades - TRANE
guarantees the savings. Lighting and occupancy
sensors - lights go off if not needed; low-flush toilets
to save water and sewage costs.
Facilities Highlights:
Concrete and curb work at all buildings
Volleyball courts upgraded to a two (2)-court system.
Drainage replaced behind the Performing Arts Center.
FISCAL STEWARDSHIP
Financial responsibility ensures that the majority of funding is spent
on classroom instruction.

All Cafeterias won the Clean Kitchen Award from the
Hamilton County Public Health Department recognizing the
best-of-the-best in maintaining safe food service operations in
the city.

2014 highlights:
Donations by Boosters, PTA and Finneytown Schools Educational
Foundation:
o Foundation: $78,000 for refurbished seating in William R.
Swartzel Performing Arts Center, $90,000 in student
scholarships, $30,000.00 Pride Project 2.
o PTA: over $10,000.00 per year
o Boosters: $25,000 for gym locker room renovation,
$2,000.00 student-athlete scholarships, $10,000 donation
to the Athletic Department.
Events coordinated with community partners: Finneytown
Business Network, Kiwanis, Superintendents Advisory Council,
Springfield Township Arts and Enrichment Council, Northminster
Community CONNECT, Homecoming Community and Alumni
Weekend, Panegyri Festival, Great American Cleanup,
AfterProm, Whiz Kids, College Fairs, Career Education Exposure,
Wildcat 5K.
Elementary Family Involvement Program sponsored activities
throughout the year: Brent Family Reading Night, Helping Our
Students Excel, Back-to-School Celebrations, 3rd Grade Reading
Guarantee Parent Meeting, Brent Family Movie Night, Parent
Program - Conflict Resolution, Kindergarten Camp, Kindergarten
Reading Night, Welcome to Whitaker Transition Dessert, COSI On
Wheels, Whitaker Family Science Night, as well as providing
childcare for the presentations.
National community participation in Read Aloud 15 Minutes
Per Day program.

PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Educational experiences are enhanced by partnerships between
the school district and community.

The Finneytown Local School District prides itself on providing
expansive services to all students. Beginning in kindergarten, students
experience a continuum of services based upon individualized needs.
Examples of some highlights:
Gifted Education - The needs of students who are gifted are met
though a continuum of services and strategies. They are served
through a variety of methods including differentiated instruction,
enrichment and extension of targeted skills, and small group
instruction; students meeting criteria may participate in the
Gifted Program in grades 3-6, honors classes in middle school,
and Advanced Placement (AP) course in high school.
Full-time counselors are available for students K-12; one (1)
school psychologist is employed in the district.
Health Services - Staff members, health aides and district nurse
are committed to meeting the daily healthcare needs of all
students, as well as the educational and long-term care needs
of children with chronic illness.
English as a Second Language (ESL) - ESL services are provided
to students acquiring English as a Second Language. The
purpose of the program is to provide support as they attempt to
understand and function in a new cultural or academic
environment. This service is delivered during school hours. Our
ESL tutors provide direct language instruction to students and
collaborate with their teachers to develop an understanding of
their strengths and provide intervention through a Limited English
Proficient (LEP) Plan.
A Before and After School care program is available to students
in grades K-6.

A variety of services provide options to ensure all students receive
individualized instruction, enrichment and support.
