Application Process

Welcome to our 3-step application process, we have kept it as simple as possible whilst
ensuring you have the necessary information to make your application as strong as possible.
Its as easy of eating a free biscuit.

Stage One Applying!

We know the application form may look long and daunting but dont worry, take your time
and write it properly, remember you are still applying for a job. Its as easy as eating a free
biscuit!

Application

First you must rank your skills in order of experience starting with your strongest.
Explain how you see yourself transferring your skill into a camp environment. If you
have experience teaching this skill then great! Tell us about it, how long have you
done it for? Have you taught individuals or groups? What level have you played and
taught? What ages were the children? The more information you include the better.
Make sure you write a strong personal statement, this is your opportunity to tell
camp directors and the AmeriCamp team exactly why you should go to camp,
describe your personality, your strengths and any other attributes that would make
you the ideal candidate for camp.

Interview

Once you are happy with your application submit it and the crazy but friendly people
at AmeriCamp HQ will review it and then get in touch with you.
To make things as easy and cost effective for you we can interview you through one
of 3 options, you can A: come down to the AmeriCamp HQ in Manchester and meet
our great office staff. B: Meet one of our amazing campus mangers at numerous
universities across the UK, they have all been to camp and have plenty of stories to
tell. Finally C: we can interview via Skype on evenings and weekends, you dont even
need to leave your house.
Your interviewer will talk through your application, highlight your strengths and make
sure your skills are relevant to camp, they will remain your key contact throughout
the application process and will help you with any questions you may have. After your
interview your interviewer may give you a list of recommendations to work on and in
the meantime they will write your interview report that will go alongside your
application.

Stage Two- Video, References, Camps Fairs and Transiting You Application to the US Office
Once your interview report has been written, and we have received your references and
YouTube then it is time for your application to become live and start circulating around to
camp directors.

You will need to pay the 60 stage 2 fees within 2 weeks of receiving your
confirmation email, the longer you leave it the less time you give yourself to be
placed. The Stage 2 fees are fully refundable should you not get placed.
Be prepared for camp directors to get in touch, make sure you have a Skype account
set up as they may wish to interview you further. Remember you are applying for a
job, be friendly, professional and treat the camp director with respect.
Each year we have camp fairs, where you can meet Camp Director face to face and
get #plACed. If you want to be placed with a friend it is best to attend a camp fair
and interview together.

Application Video

This is an essential part of your application; camp directors will not consider an
application without one. Try and make your video creative and fun and show off the
skills that you have explained in your application form. We recommend that your
video is between 1-2 minutes long, includes a brief introduction section then progress
to your skills, you can also include a photo show reel. Title your video with your name
and AmeriCamp 2015. If you prefer not to post it live on YouTube then you can send
us a private link.

References

You need to get 3 references to complete your application and we have a reference
forms available for you to use online. Your references need to come from a
professional source so teachers, coaches, employers. They cannot come from family
or friends and must contain active contact details to enable us to verify the
reference.

officially begin, heres what to do next.

undergo further background checks if you already have a criminal record.

VISA PROCESS:

In order to work in America during the summer it is requirement for participants to have a
J-1 Visa. AmeriCamp will provide the necessary DS-2019 form (Certificate of Eligibility)
which is required to apply for a J-1 visa for placed applicants. Additional forms are supplied
via the website of the US Embassy of London and AmeriCamp provides all applicants with
detailed instructions on the Footprints Application System, which offers a step-by-step help
guide throughout the entire visa application. We are also available on 0161 312 3640 and
also email at info@americamp.co.uk if any further assistance is needed.
You will be required to attend a personal interview at their local US Embassy (in the UK, this
will be at either the US Embassy in London or the Consulate Generals Office in Belfast) and
it should be noted that this could take a couple of hours to attend and any costs of travel to
and from the Embassy is your responsibility. AmeriCamp staff will be situated outside the
Embassy, on what we call J1-Days, to provide additional support to you and make sure
that you are fully prepared for their interview. The vast majority of our applicants have
their Embassy appointment on a J1-Day and so have our support throughout the day.
Did you know?
On average over 60,000 people fly over the US every hour?
Placement
AmeriCamp work with over 900 US Summer Camps that are located across the entire US,
from New York on the East Coast to California on the West Coast and even one camp in
Alaska!
Participants are expected to complete a placement that will last for a minimum of 9 weeks
(11 weeks for day camps). Whilst on a camp, participants are answerable to the Camp
Director. It should be noted that camps in the US often have very strict rules and regulations
regarding areas such as curfews, alcohol, smoking and behaviour towards campers and
staff. Participants should expect to be asked to leave camp if they break camp rules. Being
fired is not a pleasant experience and to minimise the disruption on camp it should be
understood that following a firing participants may be asked to leave camp immediately.
AmeriCamp will then work with the participant regarding the situation and if needs be
investigate the matter further.

Upon being hired at a camp, applicants will receive a camp contract including all of the
duties and their role which they are expected to fulfil during their 9 week placement (11
weeks for day camp).
