1. Gain the relevant
qualifications for teacher
registration byobtaining
either a four-year
bachelor of education
(BEd) or athree-year
degree, such as a
bachelor of arts (BA) or
bachelorof science
(BSc). You can then
enter an education
faculty of auniversity
and complete a graduate
educational
methodologydegree,
which will enable you to
teach in high school.2.
Note that in Australia, if
you obtain a BEd or
other primarydegree,
you must have two
majors or teaching areas
to beregistered as a
teacher. When
considering courses,
makesure you select two
teaching areas. Note

eight courses are

to six in the United

registrationinformation.4.
Apply for teaching jobs.
Once registration is
finished and youhave an
ID card, you can
approach any private
school for aposition as a
teacher; however, if you
wish to teach in thestate
school districts, which
pay higher rates, you
arerequired to go before
a panel of Education
Department stafffor a
suitability review. This is
an interview, during
which youare required to
answer in writing exactly
how you wouldhandle a
number of different
teaching scenarios,
thusdemonstrating your
teaching abilities

OBSERVATIONS
1. Based on your personal interview of the Filipino Teacher on thecompetencies of the
national standards for teachers, has the teachermet the requirements? Explain.Based on
the personal interview, the teacher is able to meet therequirements on the competencies
of the national standards forteachers. Although in one domain the teacher rated low, all
theother domains rated high. Also, for the strands, her ratingsranged from developing to
expert, where most of her ratings inaverage is experienced.
2. If the NCBTS is the measure of a global teacher, can the teacher youinterviewed meet
the challenges of global education? Why? Whynot?I think the teacher I interviewed will be
able to meet thechallenges of global education because she is able to meet
thecompetencies required in the NCBTS. Such competencies inthe NCBTS define good
teaching in terms of actualcompetencies associated with features of teaching high-
learning classroom activities.
3. Are there similarities or differences among teachers in othercountries in terms of the
standard requirements of a professionalteacher? Explain your answer. There are
similarities and difference as well. Based onwhat I have researched, the teachers in USA
developed 5principles of professional standards as values. Theseprinciples are not totally
different with the 7 domains of theNCBTS that we have for our teachers here in
Philippines. Aswhat I observed, these principles and domains correlated witheach other.
The difference I have noticed is that in the USA,linking the school to the community is
not highlighted or givenmuch focus.

4. Would Filipino teachers be comparable to their fellow teachers inother countries?
Explain your answer. If teachers meet the competencies in the NCBTS, theyare really
comparable with the other teachers in othercountries. As what I have answered in the
previous question, competencies in the NCBTS define good teaching in terms of actual
competencies associated with features of teachinghigh-learning classroom activities. And
I think, what weconsider good teaching here in Philippines is also consideredas good
teaching in other countries.

REFLECTIONS
Indeed, becoming a global teacher requires certain standards. Asobserved, there are
more similar expectations of teachers, the worldover. As a pre

service teacher education student, how do you seeyourself, ten years from now vis a vis
the teachers from all over theworld?
Ten years from now, I see myself facing theteachers from all over the world with
confidence. Ibelieve 10 years time is enough to train myself tobecome one who can
compete well with otherteachers abroad. With such competencies laid outin NCBTS, I
believe I can grow into a professionalteacher in equal footing with those foreign
mentors. I know Im not yet fully deve
loped forexperience really is the best teacher, I believe Ican still improve.
Can you meet the challenges of being a global teacher?
Yes, I believe I can. I believe I will be able to.
AFFIRMATIONSAffirmed Concept 1:Global teachers are needed for the people live in
aglobal villageAffirmed Concept 2:Education is for all and is grounded in four
commonpillarsAffirmed Concept 3:Being a world-class teacher starts in the
classroom.APPLICATION

How would you prepare yourself to become a global teacher?Conrado de Quiros
said, Being world
-class teacher does not meangoing internationally and showing our best out there. Being
world-class is passion and commitment to our profession; being world-class is giving our
best to teaching. Being world-class starts rightinside the
classroom.
This says it all. Becoming a world-class or global teacher starts withdoing the right
things and the best thing right inside the classroom. As a future teacher, I will prepare
myself by giving my best shot inthe classes I will be handling. Because education has four
commongrounds, then any classroom will do as a training ground forbecoming a global
teacher.
