BUKIT TAKUN AS GEOSITE

FOR SELANGOR STATE PARKS NATURAL HERITAGE
"Most surely in the creation
of the heavens and the earth
and the alternation of the
night and the day there are
signs for men who understand
(Ali-Imran 3:190)
BACKGROUND STUDY
Geoheritage tourism is a product of geological
site conservation practices all around the world.

Geoheritage refers to an area that possesses rich
geodiversity in term of rocks, minerals, fossils,
geological structures geomorphological and
landscape features, with heritage value of national
and regional significant.

Ecotourism defined by TIES (1990) as "responsible
travel to natural areas that conserves the
environment and improves the well-being of local
people.

Geoheritage tourism vs. Ecotourism,

Geoheritage tourism = specific on geological
features area,
Ecotourism = natural area.

Both have become as alternative ways in
generating billion dollars income as well as
conserving the natural environment and profiting
social context.

ISSUES
Urban developments such as
highways construction, road
enlargement, private residential, and
institution at the edge of
conservation area which do not
follow the local plan and land use
declaration (The Star,2012).

Change of conservation
boundaries due to property
demand, some of the conserved land
was degazzeted and sold to private
parties (Malaysian National Society,
2012).

DESIGN INTENTION
To establish a recreational area
and observation center for the
people and researchers as well as
introduce appropriate programs
surrounding the proposed site
which highlighting the geoheritage

RESEARCH QUESTIONS
What is a proper/sustainable size
of conserve area that are allow to
be opened for public exploration
and experience?
What is the geological history of
the proposed area?
How to translate the geological
history of the site into landscape
design and propose programs?
OBJECTIVES

AIM

To promote appreciation toward
heritage nature through geotourism,
ecotourism and sustainable recreational
design in order to protect the natural
