Gleibens Cat Food Company

Public Relations Plan

DATE: October 22, 2014

TO: Elliot Gleibens

FROM: Joseph Lestz Public Relations Manager

SUBJECT: C.A.T.S Program Actions/Activities

The Gleibens Cat Food Company is currently making efforts to alter the work place into a
healthy one while inspiring our employees to develop a smoke-free and overall, a healthier lifestyle. We
feel that the smoke-free program and wellness initiative (otherwise known as the C.A.T.S Program), are
effective ways in which we can guide our employees into living a smoke and tobacco free lifestyle. In
order to ensure that the program itself is effective and actually beneficial, a few changes need to be
made to facilities run by Gleibens Cat Food in order to inform and excite employees about the program.
To introduce these changes, will hold a company meeting that is mandatory for the entire staff
at Gleibens to attend. This meeting will occur about 2 weeks before the C.A.T.S Program goes live, and
we (the PR and communications team) will introduce the program to the staff, and answer any
questions or concerns that are raised. During the meeting we will propose to the staff a trial of the
program to the staff in order to see whether or not the actual program will work. During the trial period,
the Gleibens staff will be limited in using tobacco products near or on Gleibens properties and facilities.
What this means is that there will be fewer smoke breaks and designated smoking zones at Gleibens in
succession of weeks and days leading up to when the C.A.T.S Program is introduced. We feel that for
heavy smokers, this will ease the process of transitioning into a smoke-free environment without having

those employees abruptly stop smoking altogether. As part of the transition process into a healthier and
smoke-free work environment, a few snacks and drinks in the vending machine will be replaced with
healthier options. As of May 1
st
2016 the current snacks and sodas in the vending machines will be
entirely replaced with healthier options, so we want to slowly transition into the healthier options while
allowing employees to get a sneak peek and sample what healthy snacks and drinks will become
available.
In order to better inform and remind employees of the C.A.T.S Wellness program, various
posters and signs will be put up at Gleibens facilities. For some of the posters, the location of where they
are put up will be what part of the program will be implemented. For example, as part of the C.A.T.S
program, 50 AEDs will be installed in employee work areas. Before the installation of these AEDs occurs,
posters containing information on what an AED is and how to operate one will be posted on the wall in
the location that the AED will be installed. This way, employees will be able to familiarize themselves
with the AED and be able to locate one immediately if need be.
We are expecting this C.A.T.S Wellness program to be a massive step in the direction for a
healthier and overall better lifestyle for our staff. This difficult task can be made much easier with the
cooperation of the Gleibens staff, so we are hoping that with the meeting and transitional
implementations will ease employees into and prep them into adopting the C.A.T.S program. Essentially,
with this program, we want to help our staff, help themselves to living a healthier lifestyle, which begins
at Gleibens.
