Jude 1

1(A)Jude, a (B)bond-servant
doulos (doo’ los) – slave, under subjugation
of Jesus Christ, and brother of James,
This tells us that Jude is probably not the apostle
or else he probably would have written son of so
and so.

To (C)those who are the called,(Rom 8:28)

kletos (klay’ tos) – invited, appointed
beloved
agapetos ag-ap-ay-tos'
in God the Father (John 3:16)
, and (D)kept for Jesus Christ:

2(E)May mercy
eleos (el’ eh os) – compassion

and peace and love (F)be multiplied

plethuno (play-thoo'-no) - abound

to you.
3(G)Beloved,
agapetos – dear ones

while I was making every effort

spoude spoo-day' – speed, eager, haste

to write you about our (H)common salvation,

Jude set out to write a simple evangelical message.

I felt the necessity

anagke an-ang-kay' from 303 and the base of 43;
constraint
literally – to bend up

to write to you appealing

parakaleo par-ak-al-eh'-o – imploring, begging

that you (I)contend

epagonizomai ep-ag-o-nid'-zom-ahee – to compete

earnestly for (J)the faith which was once for all

(K)handed down to (L)the saints.

4For certain persons have (M)crept in unnoticed, those

who were long beforehand (N)marked out for this
condemnation,
krima kree'-ma – judgement, decision

ungodly persons who turn (O)the grace

(undeserved favor)

of our God into (P)licentiousness

aselgeia as-elg'-i-a - filthyness

and (Q)deny our only Master (reference to his status

as a slave)
and Lord, Jesus Christ. 5Now I desire to (R)remind you,
though (S)you know all things once for all,
hapax hap'-ax

that [a]the Lord, (T)after saving a people out of the

land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did
not believe.
6And (U)angels who did not keep their own domain,
arche ar-khay' - magistrate, power, principality,
assignment

but abandoned their proper abode,

oiketerion oy-kay-tay'-ree-on – house, residence, 1st
place of responsibility

He has (V)kept in eternal bonds under darkness for

the judgment of the great day,

7just as (W)Sodom and Gomorrah and the (X)cities

around them, since they in the same way as these
indulged in gross immorality and (Y)went after strange
flesh, are exhibited as an (Z)example in undergoing the
(AA)punishment of eternal fire. 8Yet in the same way
these men, also by dreaming, (AB)defile the flesh, and
reject authority, and revile angelic majesties.

9But (AC)Michael (AD)the archangel, when he disputed

with the devil and argued about (AE)the body of Moses,
did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment,
but said, "(AF)The Lord rebuke you!"
This verse is based off a work called The
Assumption of Moses.
10But (AG)these men revile the things which they do
not understand; and (AH)the things which they know
by instinct, (AI)like unreasoning animals, (2 Pet 2:4)
by these things they are destroyed.

11Woe to them! For they have gone (AJ)the way of

Cain, (Gen 4:1-16)
Abe’s offering was pleasing, Cain’s was not and
Cain murdered his brother

and for pay they have rushed headlong into (AK)the

error of Balaam,(Num22-24)
Balaam was contracted to curse God’s people in
exchange for money

and (AL)perished in the rebellion of Korah. (Numbers

16:1-3)
1 Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of
Levi, and certain Reubenites—Dathan and Abiram,
sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth—became
insolent [a] 2 and rose up against Moses. With them
were 250 Israelite men, well-known community
leaders who had been appointed members of the
council. 3 They came as a group to oppose Moses
and Aaron and said to them, "You have gone too
far! The whole community is holy, every one of
them, and the LORD is with them. Why then do you
set yourselves above the LORD's assembly?"
stories of betrayal, murder, greed, and disobedience

12These are the men who are hidden reefs

spilas spee-las' – rock ledge

(AM)in your love feasts

agape ag-ah'-pay - feasts of charity

when they feast with you (AN)without fear, caring for

themselves; (AO)clouds without water, (AP)carried
along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly
dead, (AQ)uprooted; 13(AR)wild waves of the sea,
casting up (AS)their own shame like foam; wandering
stars, (AT)for whom the black darkness has been
reserved forever.

14It was also about these men that (AU)Enoch, in the

seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying,
"(AV)Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of
His holy ones, 15(AW)to execute judgment upon all,
and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly
deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of
all the harsh things which (AX)ungodly sinners have
spoken against Him."
Once again a reference from a work outside of
cannon
16These are (AY)grumblers, finding fault, (AZ)following
after their own lusts; they speak (BA)arrogantly,
flattering people (BB)for the sake of gaining an
advantage.
17But you, (BC)beloved,
agapetos ag-ap-ay-tos'

(BD)ought to remember the words that were spoken

beforehand by (BE)the apostles of our Lord Jesus
Christ, 18that they were saying to you, "(BF)In the last
time there will be mockers, (BG)following after their
own ungodly lusts." 19These are the ones who cause
divisions, (BH)worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit.
