Steps
Membership Registration
1.1 Membership is Optional
1.2 Membership fees: $139 (Registration: $129 + Application fee: $10)
1.3 Membership valid for 1 year from the date of Registration
Membership Benefits
1.4 Free access to PMBOK Guide & other benefits as mentioned in www.pmi.org
1.5 Total of 3 attempts will be provided in 1 year of membership
1.6 If a person fails in the 1st attempt, the exam fees for the 2nd attempt would be $250
Complete mandatory PDUs
2.1 One of the pre-requisites for exam is MANDATORY completion of PDUs
2.2 Minimum required is 35 PDUs
2.3 Each PDU will have a duration of either 1hr/1.5hr/2hrs based on the content
2.4 At the end of each module, remember to download the certificate in PDF format
2.5 Save the certificates on your local disk
2.6 For PDU completion - check for any of the R.E.P (Registered Education Provider)
Prepare for exam
3.1 Refer to PMBOK Guide as many times as possible (preferably 2/3 times)
3.2 Apart from PMBOK, you may as well refer HEAD FIRST PMP from O'Reilly publications
or any other book which you feel comfortable with
3.3 Simultaneously, you may also take up mock tests using www.examcentral.net
3.4 Duration allowed for preparation can be maximum of 2 months
3.5 Once you are confident about your knowledge levels based on the mock test scores, you
may proceed to enrol for exam
3.6 PMP exam consists of 200 questions and goes on for 4 hours
3.7 Preferred mode of taking the exam is 'Online Mode'
3.8 For those appearing for exam after July 2013; the examination will be based on
PMBOK Guide 5th Edition
Enroll for exam
4.1 Exam fee for Members is approximately $425
4.2 Exam fee for Non-Members is approximately $550
4.3 While registering for the exam, remember to have the PDU Certificates & your Project
Management experience (refer on www.pmi.org) details handy
4.4 Keep 2 reference details also handy; eg: Name, Organization, Designation/Role, Contact
Number, Contact E-mail ID etc
4.5 One need to provide these details as per the registration process
4.6 Before completion of enrolment process, based on the random check, your profile may
get selected for Audit Validation
4.7 If your profile gets selected for Audit Validation, ensure to provide hard copies of PDU
Certificates and other experience related documents to PMI. PMI will contact any of the
references provided to validate your experience and conduct
4.8 Upon successful enrolment, you will receive notification from PMI for scheduling of exam
4.9 Follow the procedure mentioned in the communication provided by PMI
Schedule the exam
5.1 Based on the communication from PMI, follow the instructions for scheduling the exam
5.2 Select the appropriate date and time slot as available in the scheduling tool
5.3 Based on the date & time slot and the geographical preference, the tool will select the
nearest exam center
5.4 Examination venue details will be provided to you in a separate e-mail
Appear for exam
6.1 Take print out of the Examination venue details and carry along with you
6.2 Carry any of your Gov provided ID Cards for the verification purpose at the venue
6.3 Do not carry Calculators, Watches, Gadgets, Hand kerchiefs, Preparation Materials,
Pens/Pencisl as you will be asked to keep all of them in the lockers provided outside the
exam area
6.4 Upon entering the exam hall, you will be provided with 2 pencils & a worksheet for you to
use them for any calculations/workings during the exam
6.5 Once the exam starts, you will be allowed to take the breaks; however, the exam time
continues to clock and it wont stop
6.6 Please read the 15 minute briefing prior to exam start
6.7 Upon completion of this, your exam starts and the countdown starts
6.8 Upon completion of exam, the results will be displayed immediately
6.9 Before leaving the venue, the exam co-ordinator will hand over the Exam Results sheet
to you and preserve it for future purposes
Upon successful completion of exam
7.1 It will take approximately 5 working days to get an official communication from PMI about
your Certification status
7.2 Your name will get added to the PMP Certification holders database within this time
7.3 You will receive the PMP Certificate within 6 weeks from the date of successful
completion of exam
7.3 Your PMP Certification will be valid for 3 years
7.4 One need to complete 60 PDUs during this 3 year period so as to continue with
Certification
7.5 In case of failure to do so, the Certification expires
