Welcome

Call to Worship

Praise: Look Upon us Blessed Lord, CH4, 601
1 Look upon us, blessed Lord,
Take our wandering thoughts and guide us:
We have come to hear your word:
with your teaching now provide us,
That, from earths distractions turning,
We your message may be learning.

2 For your Spirits radiance bright
We, assembled here, are hoping:
When we live without your light,
In the dark our souls are groping:
In word, deed, and thought direct us:
Only you, Lord, can correct us.

3 Brightness of the Fathers face,
Light of Light, from God proceeding,
Make us ready in this place:
Ear and heart await your leading.
In our study, prayers, and praising,
May our souls find their upraising.

Tobias Clausnitzer (1619-1684)

Prayer

Readings: Deuteronomy 11: 13-15

Praise: Praise to the Lord, CH4, 124
1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation;
praise God, my soul, for in him are your health and salvation;
come all who hear,
into his presence draw near,
joining in glad adoration.
2 Praise to the Lord, who in all things is wondrously reigning,
shields you from harm and is gently yet firmly sustaining.
Have you not seen
how your heart's wishes have been
granted by God's wise ordaining?
3 Praise to the Lord, who with blessing and power will defend you;
surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend you;
ponder anew
what the Almighty can do:
God will for ever befriend you.
5 Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that has life and breath, come now with praises before him!
Let the Amen
sound from God's people again:
gladly for ever adore him.
Joachim Neander (1650-1680)
Reflection
Praise / Offering: God whose Farm, CH4, 226
1 God, whose farm is all creation,
Take the gratitude we give;
Take the finest of our harvest,
Crops we grow that all may live.

2 Take our ploughing, sowing, reaping,
Hopes and fears of sun and rain,
All our thinking, planning, waiting,
Ripening into fruit and grain.

3 All our labour, all our watching,
All our calendar of care,
In these crops of your creation,
Take, O God: they are our prayer.

Leslie Thomas John Arlott (1914-1991)

Prayer / Lords Prayer
Praise: We Plough the Fields, CH4, 229
1 We plough the fields and scatter
the good seed on the land,
but it is fed and watered
by God's almighty hand;
he sends the snow in winter,
the warmth to swell the grain,
the breezes and the sunshine,
and soft refreshing rain.
All good gifts around us
are sent from heaven above;
then thank the Lord, O thank the Lord
for all his love.
2 He only is the Maker
of all things near and far;
he paints the wayside flower,
he lights the evening star;
the wind and waves obey him,
by him the birds are fed;
much more to us, his children,
he gives our daily bread............
3 We thank thee, then, O Father,
for all things bright and good,
the seed-time and the harvest,
our life, our health, our food.
Accept the gifts we offer
for all your love imparts,
with what we know you long for:
our humble, thankful hearts. ...........
Matthias Claudius (1740-1815)

Giving Day: Last autumn there was no Giving Day since we had our "Giving For
Growth" programme earlier in the year. The Kirk Session has decided it is right
to re-introduce the Giving Day again this year. This gives members the opportunity
to reflect on their giving to the work of the congregation and the wider church
throughout the past year and make a one-off donation should they wish to do so.
The church and St Margaret's Hall will both be open from 2 pm to 4 pm on Saturday
1 November to receive donations. Alternatively, they may be handed in to the Thrift
Shop between 1.30pm and 3pm on Thursday 30 October.
BLYTHSWOOD BOXES: Why not prepare a shoebox for Blythswood 2014. Leaflets
are available at the back of the Church. Completed boxes should be returned to the
Church for end of October. Anyone who requires hats/gloves for Men, Women or
Children for their boxes should speak to Helen Fordyce 843036.
LIFE & WORK 2015 Any member of the Congregation who does not already
subscribe to Life and Work and who may wish to be a subscriber, can they please
contact me by 10
th
November. The annual subscription is 21.36. Those of you who
already subscribe do not need to get in touch unless you want to make any change
to your order.
