Man is a spirit, he has a soul and lives in a body.

The Threefold Nature of a Man
And the God of peace himself sanctify you
wholly; and may your spirit and soul and
body be preserved entire, without blame at
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 (ASV)
Man is a spirit, he has a soul and he lives in a
body. With the body man interacts with the physical
world, with his soul which consists of the mind,
intellect, will, feeling, conscience, memory and
imagination, man makes decision. With his spirit
(man himself) he relates with God.
Man is spirit
Lets look at it from when God created man:
Genesis 1:27 And God created man in his
own image, in the image of God created he
him; male and female created he them.
When God created man in his own image here, He
created him as a spirit being and not as a physical
being; the second chapter of Genesis tells us that
there was not a man to till the ground. Genesis
2:5, the afterwards God created the human body
from the ground and breathe into him life and man
became a living soul.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the
earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto
God who gave it.

Jesus met His disciples after He resurrected from
the dead to prove that He came to them in body
also because the body died and is now alive, He said
to them in Luke 24:39, See my hands and my feet,
that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit
hath not flesh and bones, as ye behold me having.
Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the
inspiration of the Almighty giveththem
understanding.
Note that sometimes spirit is referred in the
scripture as a part of man just as in the above verse
but in real case man is spirit, in some cases spirit is
referred to a heart.
Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of
the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the
belly.
1Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the
Lord is one spirit.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh;
and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. And
since God is Spirit according to John 4:24, He is the
Father of the human spirit.
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, and he
himself is judged of no man.
1 Corinthians 2:15. The spirit faculties are Faith,
Hope, reverence, Prayer and Worship.


Man is a living Soul
And Jehovah God formed man of the dust
of the ground, and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life; and man became
a living soul. Genesis 2:7
The gates to the soul are the imagination,
conscience, memory, reasoning, affection, in
general, the mind, the intellect, will. Man as spirit
will be understood more as we continue with Mans
soul because youll be able to compare and contrast
between your spirit, your soul and your body. The
Bible refers to the spirit of a man sometimes as the
inner man, the soul is like the middle man and the
body is the outward man. The spirit of a man
receives illumination from God at the new birth,
that is, the moment one receives Jesus into his life,
and the soul of a man receives illumination from
the recreated human spirit as he feeds of the Spirit
of God through the faculties of the his spirit: Faith
(Gods Word, Romans 10:17), Hope, Reverence,
Prayer and Worship. Only a recreated human spirit
can get his soul illuminated.
On receiving Jesus into your life, your spirit
becomes new, your spirit become recreated, and the
old is done away with, thats why the scripture says
in 2 corinthians 5:17 (AMP) that Therefore if any
person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a
new creation (a new creature altogether); the old
[previous moral and spiritual condition] has
passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has
come! This new spirit man is one with God,
1Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the
Lord is one spirit. But some people dont behold
this new man that is born, not immediately because
the soul of man has not yet been changed, man is
completely responsible for his soul, he has to
continually yield his soul to the Spirit of God, that
is, Gods word in order to undergo transformation
from God, but any seizure of mans soul from the
Spirit of God, the soul will automatically yield to the
lusts of the world and get affected by. This is satans
primary goal; to stop mans access to God.
The recreated human spirit is perfect. There have
been so many debates around the world, many still
wonder if a man can get perfect, few believe and
many dont. I repeat, the recreated human spirit is
perfect because he is in union with a perfect God
through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ taught and said
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is
perfect Matthew 5:48 (NIV), Jesus was preparing
men to live the life He was about to suffer for and
resurrect, as a result, many didnt not understand
the teachings Jesus gave them, even the disciples
said This is a hard teaching John 6:60 (NIV),
man couldnt accept the things of God, man
couldnt love unconditionally, until after the Holy
Spirit came upon the disciples in the upper room
(Acts 2). A Christian is a believer of the finished
work of Jesus Christ, remember Jesus Christ said
be perfect, after the Holy Spirit came, Apostle
Paul said

but now He has reconciled you in His
bodyin His flesh through His deathso that He
can present you to God holy, blameless,
and totally free of imperfection Colossians 1:22
(VOICE). Apostle Paul also wrote to the Ephisians
and began with praising God for His blessings, he
wrote Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with every
spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ:
even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the
world, that we should be holy and without blemish
before him in love Ephisians 1:3-4. Man Spirit is
totally and completely blessed, but the reason why
we say God bless you today is so that the blessings
of God will reach the soul of man, it is your soul
that needs to be blessed today, just like the psalm of
David He restoreth my soul: He guideth me in the
paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Psalms
23:3. Man is healthy in the Spirit, strong, wealthy,
rich, whole, but needs his soul to be in constantly in
access to his spirit and Gods word in order to
manifest these wholeness.
Man was created to function from the Spirit of
God. Galatians 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, by the
Spirit let us also walk. This will illuminate the
soul.
Romans 12:2 And be not fashioned according to
this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing
of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good
and acceptable and perfect will of God.
James 1:21 Wherefore putting away all filthiness
and overflowing of wickedness, receive with
meekness the implanted word, which is able to
save your souls.
Whenever a recreated human spirit functions from
the Spirit, he has his mind in a transformation
process and this is not constant, it is a continual
thing since we ought to live by the Spirit. When
man has his soul transformed he can control his
body because he cannot live according to the flesh
and its desires, And they that are of Christ Jesus
have crucified the flesh with the passions and the
lusts thereof. Galatians 5:24. Man was not made to
be controlled from the senses, or the physical world
(for we walk by faith, not by sight); 2
Corinthians 5:7, only when a mans soul is
transformed by Gods word will he know the will of
God, God reveals divine realities to the human
spirit through His Spirit, then this is revealed to the
soul of a man after that the man has transformed
his mind with Gods word so that he will know that
it is God, in the world today there are a lot of voices,
but how will man know the right one if his mind is
bombarded with noise. The Holy Spirit of God can
give impressions to the soul of a man in order to
lead him in the way that he should go, we can
understand this by the words spoken by Apostle
Paul in Romans 9:1: I speak the truth in Christ I
am not lying, my conscience confirms it in the Holy
Spirit. Conscience is a part of the soul. You see,
God leads man by His Spirit, by laying a message in
mans Spirit thereby causing an impression in the
soul, but this is not the only way God leads man,
God leads man through His word. Man has to
continue building himself, that is, his soul and
transforming it by the word of God and the faculties
of the Spirit mentioned above, otherwise, he will be
giving way to be driven by the outward man which
is the body and its senses, this is why the bible tells
says Guard your heart with all diligence for out of
it are the issues of life (Prov. 4:23). Gods Word is
God Himself (John 1:1), and God is Spirit (John
4:24), this makes Gods word spirit (John 6:63).

Satan knows fully well that he can dominate the a
man if he has access into the soul of a man,
therefore he doesnt care if a man goes to church
where there is no manifestation of Gods Spirit in
evidence (he is agitated when there is a
manifestation of the Holy Spirit), he just doesnt
want the human Spirit to come in contact with the
Holy Spirit.
The soul is the seat of the passions, the feelings and
the desires of man; satan is satisfied if he can
master these. You see, Man can only be tempted in
something he desires, but what God is doing is to
transform man, his thinking, his desires, his
passions to His kind of thinking, desires and
passions through his word. John 15:7 says If ye
abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask
whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
It is from the soul where fleshy lusts, desires and
appetites arise, 1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I beseech you
as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly
lusts, which war against the soul;
The soul of a man is never directed towards God
until after the spirit of man has become
regenerated, man can never love God or the things
of God until he is born again.

Psalms 23:3 He restoreth my soul: He guideth me
in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Psalms 103:1 A Psalm of David. Bless Jehovah, O
my soul; And all that is within me, bless his holy
name.


Mans Body
Talking about the body of a man, God word says:
Know ye not that your bodies are
members of Christ? shall I then take away
the members of Christ, and make them
members of a harlot? God forbid. Or know
ye not that he that is joined to a harlot is
one body? for, The twain, saith he, shall
become one flesh. But he that is joined unto
the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication.
Every sin that a man doeth is without the
body; but he that committeth fornication
sinneth against his own body. Or know ye
not that your body is a temple of the Holy
Spirit which is in you, which ye have from
God? and ye are not your own; for ye were
bought with a price: glorify God therefore
in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:15-20
