Yarn:
Sokkusu Whimzy by Socktopus (433 yards ,396 m per 120
g), 2 skeins, shown in Ipomea (MC) et Firefly (CC). Or two
skeins of fingering yarn in contrasting colors

Gauge;
20 stitches and 40 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch.

Needles:
One 32" circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge listed
above. Suggested size : 4mm, US 6

Accessories:
2 stitch markers, blunt tapestry needle.

Height: 30 inches (76 cm)
Wingspan: 70 inches (178 cm)

good basic to have in the wardrobe. A
daily dose of garter stitch, stripes,
and slipped stitches. Those are the
ingredients for this yarn pastry.

Directions:
With MC, cast on 2 sts. Knit 7 rows, rotate 90 and pick up 3
sts from long edge of garter tab, then pick up 2 sts from the
cast on edge. (7 sts)
Set up row: k3, place a marker, k1, place a marker, k3.

Section 1: Single color
Row 1: k2, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, k1, sm, M1L, knit
to last 2 sts, M1R, k2. (11 sts)
Row 2: knit all stitches.

Work last 2 rows 36 times more. (155 sts)

Section 2: Stripes
Note: The edges of this shawl tend to be tight, especially in
this section. This section, you may need to keep looser tension
on the first two stitches so that the edges are flexible enough
to block properly. To do so, you can knit the first st on RS rows
with both strands of yarn.

With CC :
Row 1: k2, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, k1, sm, M1L, knit
to last 2 sts, M1R, k2. (159 sts)
Row 2: knit all stitches.

With MC :
Row 3 : k2, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, k1, sm, M1L, knit
to last 2 sts, M1R, k2. (163 sts)
Row 4 : knit all stitches.

With CC :
Row 5 : k2, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, k1, sm, M1L, knit
to last 2 sts, M1R, k2. (167 sts)
Row 6 : knit all stitches.

With MC :
Row 7 : k2, M1L, *sl1wyib, k2, repeat from * to marker,
M1R, sm, sl1wyib, sm, M1L, *k2, sl1wyib, repeat from * to
last 2 sts, M1R, k2. (171 sts)
Row 8 : k3, *sl1wyib, k2, repeat from * to 1 st before
marker, k1, sm, sl1wyib, sm, k1, *k2, sl1wyib, repeat from *
to last 3 sts, 3enD.

With CC :
Row 9 : k2, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, k1, sm, M1L, knit
to last 2 sts, M1R, k2. (175 sts)
Row 10 : knit all stitches.

With MC :
Row 11 : k2, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, k1, sm, M1L,
knit to last 2 sts, M1R, k2. (179 sts)
Row 12 : knit all stitches.

Work rows 1 to 12, 6 times more. (323 sts) work rows 1 to 4
once more. (331 sts)
Break MC.

Section 3: edging
With CC :
Row 1 : k2, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, k1, sm, M1L, knit
to last 2 sts, M1R, k2.
Row 2 : knit all stitches.

Work rows 1 and 2 16 times more. (335 sts)
Break CC

With MC :
Row 3 : k2, M1L, knit to marker, M1R, sm, k1, sm, M1L, knit
to last 2 sts, M1R, k2. (283 sts)
Row 4 : knit all stitches.

Finitions :
Elastic Bind-off: With RS facing bind off loosely k1, *k1, sl
last 2 sts on right needle back to left needle, k2tog, rep from
* to end.
Weave in ends on WS. Soak the shawl for 15 to 20 minutes.
Rinse, squeeze out excess water. Roll your shawl and a towel
together and press. Let the shawl dry flat.

CC: contrasting color
K: knit
P: purl
Sl: slip
Sl1wyib: slip one stitch as if you purl with yarn in back of work
M: marker
M1L: With left needle, lift strand between sts from the front, knit
through the back loop.
M1R: With left needle, lift strand between sts from the back, knit
through the front loop.
SM: slip marker
Sl1wyib: slip one stitch with yarn in back of work
