1. Did Cruz act in an ethical manner? Explain fully.

Tom Cruz did not act in an ethical manner since he violated some standards of ethical
conduct. Since he distorted some information on the companys record, he violated the
integrity, objectivity and competence standard of ethical conduct. First, he distorted
information which leads to irrelevance and unreliability of the companys records which
is very fundamental to companys state or condition. Secondly, even though theres a
consent coming from the management, ethically speaking, altering information for the
advantage of the company is unethical and illegal (based on the standard). Lastly, he
violated the principle of objectivity, wherein, information should the communicated
fairly and objectively. This means that, in every transaction held by the company, it must
be empirical in the sense that all transaction is in the basis of authenticity. Everything
must be done genuinely so that business may come up to an economic decision to be
used by the company.

2. If the new product fails to yield substantial profits and the company becomes insolvent,
can Cruzs actions be justified by the fact that he was following orders from a superior?
Explain.

Tom Cruzs actions are justifiable because orders from his superiors, especially from the
president are none of his power to refuse except if there are remedies that the
controller know to solve the problem. Even if he is the controller, the consent of the
president and others members of senior management is enough to say that Cruz cant
be blamed and his actions are justifiable. The resolve of the superiors is behaving
unethically is the only way to get ahead, but that didnt happen. With that resolve,
through Tom Cruz, the insolvency of the company is not because of Cruzs action but it
should be blamed to the superiors. Though, as a controller, Cruzs break some ethical
codes, this is due to outside factors that made him agree to that unethical act decided
by the management and other superiors.
