Course Description & Objectives
The primary objective of this course is to introduce the students with:
the subject of feedback control systems; modeling of dynamical systems; analysis of single
inputsingle output (SISO) systems and their components; the linear behavior of systems
and their components; the derivation of inputoutput relationships, using ordinary
differential equations and Laplace transforms; definition of design requirements for
control systems; design of controllers for SISO systems to meet design requirements. There
will be tutorial sessions and laboratory experiments that will provide students the
opportunities to ask questions about specific sample problems and become familiar with
the control theories and experiments.

Course Outcomes
Students who successfully pass the course have reliably gained the ability:
to carry out analysis and synthesis of linear feedback systems using classical state
space techniques.
to analyze nonlinear and optimal control systems in engineering environments.
to model dynamic control systems in a wide variety of engineering scenarios.
to perform stability and steadystate analyses of dynamic systems.
to understand the characteristics of feedback control systems.
to work with the PID control laws and be able to design systems using frequent
response methods and the root locus technique.
to apply the theory established in the course to some common systems that incorporate
active control systems

Late or Missed Assignments/Exams
Only medical or emergency conditions constitute exceptions that a student can be excused
and given appropriate time to complete missed work such as assignments, project reports,
or exams. Any foreseeable excuse should be discussed with the instructor at least 3 days
before any due date. Assignments and reports returned later than the indicated due
date/time will not be accepted. If you miss an assignment or exam please contact your
student advisor with proper documentation within 5 days of the missed deadline.

Religious Observances:
Students are required to identify any scheduling conflicts due to religious observances by
the second week of classes with the professor and student advisor. After that date, the
course schedule will be finalized.
Please see the UOIT Website (www.uoit.ca) for further details regarding policies.

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES:

Accommodating students with disabilities at UOIT is a responsibility shared among various
partners: the students themselves, SAS staff and faculty members. To ensure that
disability-related concerns are properly addressed during this course, students with
documented disabilities and who may require assistance to participate in this class are
encouraged to speak with me as soon as possible. Students who suspect they have a
disability that may affect their participation in this course are advised to go to Student
Accessibility Services (SAS) as soon as possible. Maintaining communication and working
collaboratively with SAS and faculty members will ensure you have the greatest chance of
academic success.
Students taking courses on the North Campus Location can visit Student Accessibility
Services in the U5 Building located in the Student Life Suite
Students taking courses on the Downtown Oshawa Campus Location can visit Student
Accessibility Services in the 61 Charles St. Building, 2nd Floor, Room DTA 225 in the
Student Life Suite.

Disability-related support and accommodation support is available for students with
mental health, physical, mobility, sensory, medical, cognitive, or learning
challenges. Office hours are 8:30am-4:30pm, Mon-Fri. For more information on services
provided, you can visit the SAS website at http://uoit.ca/studentaccessibility

Students may contact Student Accessibility Services by calling 905-721-3266, or email
studentaccessibility@uoit.ca

Students who require the use of the Test Centre to write tests, midterms, or quizzes MUST
register online using the SAS test/exam sign-up module, found here
www.uoit.ca/SASexams. Students must sign up for tests, midterms or quizzes AT LEAST
seven (7) days before the date of the test.
Students must register for final exams by the registration deadline, which is typically 2
weeks prior to the start of the final examination period. SAS will notify students of the
registration deadline date.

Academic Integrity and Conduct
Students are expected to adhere to the highest standards of academic honesty. Although
teamwork and collaboration is encouraged, copying from other's work from assignments
or in the exams will be considered academic dishonesty and requires disciplinary action.
UOIT is committed to the fundamental values of preserving academic integrity as defined
in UOIT policies and contained in the UOIT Calendar. Students should familiarize
themselves with UOITs policies and statements in this area. Acts of academic dishonesty,
including plagiarism, cheating, aiding others in cheating, and examination impersonation,
will be dealt with severely as they threaten the integrity of the academic system and are
not acceptable.
